  • Holy shit this rules...bought.

  • are you using a baritone guitar?

  • @VictorC53 - no, prob a 7-string

  • Dave, is it worth paying the extra for bigger pedal? i.e. the extra things you'll be able to do with the 'macro' POD, is it value for money in your opinion?

  • @Boabywankenobi - I haven't tried the bigger version.

  • Excellent review Dave.

  • @TehUberCyberBeast - wherever they sound best.

  • Satriani used both POG units on his recent boards BEFORE OD or an gain. Wah first, the POGS. any signal divider works better on a clean signal it can divide and multiply verses a fuzzed up input. Joe knows harmonizers sound better before OD or gains or a hot amp. These are cool units polyphonic is rather amazing beats the typical glitchmaster octave units.

  • Hey Dave, would this work on a zither or even a lyre?

  • @gidawg - i'm not sure, but it rocks on the panflute.

  • DW is a hell of a guitarist. No two ways about it. That's why Vai chose him...

If you aren't farmiliar with his work, rememdy that asap.

  • didn't he play live with steve vai?? with a 7 string?

  • @farinhanunes Yes.

  • how much?

  • this works with distortion, overdrive, n fuzz right?

  • Hey Dave, you think this could work on bass?

  • @Steven23CrazyBassist - i don't see why not, but test one out and let us all know.

  • @DAVEWEINER Hell yeah it does!!

  • @DAVEWEINER I tested it last night at a friend's house. It works perfectly, and I might as well go out and say that it's even better than the MXR Bass Octave Deluxe. Why? Try playing a chord and you'll hear some note trembling on the MXR whereas on the Micro POG this doesn't happen. Anyway, I think I might get the pedal, it's worth every cent.

  • @Steven23CrazyBassist Yes it does

  • @Steven23CrazyBassist it should. if you heard the band portugal. the man, the guitarist, bass, and keyboardist each use one of those pedals.

  • @Steven23CrazyBassist

I actually like it on a bass. Adds some extra depth to riffs.

  • great demos, bro...

  • You look like that guitarist who plays with Steve vai

  • @fasionroadkill That's because he is!

  • I'm between this and a Boss OC 3. Please somebody answer: Does the Boss OC 3 produce octaves up?

  • @Albumleafseeds No, but the Boss also does things the POG doesn't.

  • OMG I sooo want one of these!

  • Yep, I've just ordered one. I've never heard such a precise shift on the clean from a pedal, this is going to be so cool for acoustic gigs as well as fat OD riffs & solos

  • wata bout the organ souhnds u can get from the regukar EHX POG? wud ther be away to get this sound on the micro?

  • Amazing pedal, i'm using the Boss oc-3 but I can't play different strings at the same time because it sounds so bad, can you play different strings simultanously?? it's seems so great!

  • This helped me a lot! Thanks! Early Bon Jovi plays this in "You Give Love a Bad Name" intro.

  • Hey Dave, So this is basically the same effect Richie Sambora used for "You give love a bad name" ?

  • 1st off, great demo. i might even buy one of these pedals. would u be able to play the guitar solo for "fool in the rain" on this pedal???

  • @jarredgamarra28 you should get the mxr blue box for that song dude, thats the one he used anyway, plus the blue box is only 60 bucks, and this is like 250,but its completely up to you man,if u were to get this pedal for that song, you would hav to add alot of fuzz ontop of it,but the blue box has fuzz, and double octave down, and its analog. its all about what sounds better to your ears.but if u ask me,the pog and micro pog are way more versatile

  • you play so well that you sound better without this pedal. sry

  • the master of octave divider is jack white

  • Can you set it so the sub octave is all the way up but the rest is all the way down so you're only left with the sub octave wet signal so effectively it sounds like a bass?

  • @adris8 Yeah, check out other Demos here on youtube. Most of them isolate all three voices for you to compare them

  • @XVAGOSX1

It costs $210 dollars at guitar center

  • HOW MUCH IT COSTS?

  • NO. Poöyphonic does not mean that you can get more than one octave effect. It does mean thatit works on more than one note at the time. Chords etc

    Other than that, great demo

  • nICE!!!!

  • Is any pedal similar to this one?

  • You know what would be sweet? If EH made the POG and the Micro POG with a holy grail-esque verb built in. Not exactly the holy grail, but to at some reverb would be tight. I don't know...

  • @rmweav11

get em both and add verb as u like...?

  • shit good riff man

  • Haha it really is

  • To anybody interested I am selling mine,it's like new...in perfect condition/working order.Just send me a message.

I love the pedal but I'm selling all my non disrtion pedals to fund a line6 m13.

  • how much in £'s

  • About £120 depending were you buy!!

  • how much does one of these run? cause the not-micro pog was 200 bucks at guitar center

  • Can you get only the octave sound?

  • Yes you can.

You can have any combination of dry(the uneffected guitar tone),ocatave low and octave up.

Each is independently adjustable for any combination you want.

  • Cn you make it, so you can only hear the octave, not the standart guitar?

  • yup, turn the "dry" knob to zero

  • Could this pedal be used with a voice mic to sing and have your voice come out either an octave below or above???? Thx 4 replies.

  • yep, you can have any guitar pedal on vocals with a jack-xlr lead

  • i guess its but doesn't cancel the main signal so it duplicates it but an octave higher or lower so you get a harmony sound

  • i think vai uses this in his intro for the audience is listening

  • Would using the full octave up running with an Acoustic Sim sound like a 12 string acoustic?

  • I think ill get this one instead of pog2, 2 octs up just sounds horrible

  • yeah but no presets :(

  • John Mayer's song "In Repair" highlights this pedal. I thought it was an organ until I saw the "Making of" video.

  • is it analog or digital?

  • I'm pretty sure all EH products are analog

  • @TD2243 Nope, this, the POG2, Stereo Electric Mistress and a few others are digital... but people thining they sound analog just tells you how good they are!!

  • would this pedal work through a microphone??

im looking to use my voice through a pedal which can play my normal octave voice and also the octave higher

    could this work?

  • in theory, yes. Try it and let us know.

  • sounds like you are after something like the Harmony G pedal... from tchelicon ... check it out .

  • yes it*s possible but I think you*ll have half volume. u should try something like harmonizer or voice box from ehx. hope it*s usefull for u.. all the best!

  • later edit: try it into send return loop on any mixer!

  • @Tacadoband I've plugged a mic into a whammy pedal, and it worked fine, i couldn't imagine how cool a voice would sound on a micro pog!

  • @Tacadoband Just use the voice box by electro harmonix it would work alot better check it out on youtube

  • @Tacadoband im sure it would work if you're jamming with your band but the question is how would you do it live? run it DI into the desk? or mic up an amp with your vocals going through it? might be very inconsistent depending on how good the venue's equipment is.

  • It sound great with Blue Orchid by The White Stripes when you use both of octave up and the octave down.

  • That octave up sounds really nice

  • yeh almost like an organ

  • original.

  • dave you rock man!!!!! cant wait to see you again man rippin some mean guitar with stevie vai

  • could you get like a stairway to heaven 12 string sound?

  • You play rythm guitar for Steve Vai, don't you?

  • does it sound good when heavilly distorted? like not muddy?

(the pitch shifter i use currently is a bit muddy when distorted, doesn't track very well either)

  • I never use a ton of gain, but through my VHT Ultraleads, the harmonized signals are very clear.

  • fantastic, might have to treat myself to a POG.

    Thanks for replying

    keep up the good work

  • @mickyhodge What order do you have your pedals in? The pog tracks better off the clean signal... in case you didn't know.

  • @mickyhodge

If you want good tracking you want to put a signal with very little bass in and always put your distortion after the pitch shifting/octave effect.

  • Yeah the audio on this wasn't that good. I was rushed to do it. But, in person, the pedal's effects are very pronounced both up and down.

  • hi Dave, does the micro pog match up to the huge POG with the many slider adjustments?

    Cheers for you time!

    RegaRDS

  • I haven't used that one, but I imagine is has more sonic possibilities.

  • Im sure also, Mr Satriani uses them both and just wondered if there is a drastic difference..

no worries, well thanks for your time Dave, keep churning out astounding music!

    Best Wishes

  • Hey, I really appreciate your review, but one question: have you tried the octave up effect with compression? I mean, the "up" sounded way less pronounced than the octave below, and I wonder if compression helps the effect be heard, or may the opposite apply... Answer appreciated, cheers,

    Montag

  • i think that it just seems to be that way cuz he has the dry signal cranked, ive tried it with the dry rolled back and then you can here the highs better

  • Is this true bypass?

  • man your videos really help me out on choosing pedals. thanks dude.

  • i would rather listen to somebody who is really passionate about what they do than someone who isn't any day.

  • love your last name

  • what are the measurements of this micro pog? (i'm german, is this correct english? Sorry if not)

  • "What are the measurements of the micro pog"

(You were close to correct, good job.)

  • Should I sound bored?

  • When the up-octave is mixed in towards of the video, it has a cool almost "steel-drum" sound. I really like it; thanks for the great review.

  • can this pedal make your guitar sound like an organ?

  • yes it can

  • i like the intro song what is it called

  • "Long Run" from my debut cd Shove The Sun Aside

    daveweiner . com / store

  • Thank you for that

  • sweet, this seems like it would be good for guitarist recording on a budget, or even somebody who doesn't have the luxury of multi-tracking a bass in there. I think using the low octave would probably be a suitable substitute for a bass if you were laying down a demo.

  • Damn Dave - Thanks again for another great video. I picked up my Micro POG today and now cannot believe why I didn't have a great octave pedal in my rig for years. Anyway - I couldn't be happier with my Micro POG - and you're right - it sounds DEADLY with good tube overdrive! Cheers...!

  • Can it handle normal chord strumming over all 6 strings, with all the strings make noise at once?

  • Yep, that's what I'm doing from 3:55 on.

  • Hey Dave, would this pedal be a good substitute for having a real bass for recording? Could you just turn the dry all the way down and the sub all the way up and it would sound like a bass?

  • Sure go for it.

  • Dude. I could listen to you play all day!

  • Hey Dave, How does this work with other pedals? Do you plug it in before or after your overdrive?

  • Either way. Try both!

  • How is it compared the regular pog? The regular 1 looks too complicated.

  • Standard POG, you just got more octaves, (plus 2+ plus 2 detuned) each octave has a different detuned slider, and a LPF which is excellent for tuning into frequencies.

  • how does it sounds with distortion?

  • Killer.

  • ah great:D

  • The white stripes song called blue orchid is a POG through distortion

you should youtube it to see how it sounds

  • great demo.

  • great video, that pedal sounded great, best octave type device i've heard by far

that's made the "guitar gear to acquire" list just that little bit longer now ^_^ hehehehe

  • Hey Dave, any chance of a tab for that first riff you played?

sounds very similar to the bass riff in Tool's Schism

  • I liked that riff. It was bad ass.

  • yet another great video
