I was merely trying to state that there will be no utopian breakthrough with the legalization of marijuana, and if anything it would provide a whole slew of new problems for society to combat. However, if you wish to make an argument of it, I think that the end result of overpopulation of prisons would be much easier to deal with than the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people due to the consumption of deadly chemicals that would be brought about in this "nightmare scenario".

@srdmstr Your argument doesn't make any sense. To keep up a cigarette smoking habit on home grown tobacco you would need a greater quantity of the crop that is less versatile for weather conditions. Thereof making it impractical for consumers to grow it themselves. That problem is alleviated with marijuana having such a large yield and that less is required for the buzz. Yes there would be big business capitalizing on it, but there would be plenty of other options on where else to get your pot.

It's not hard or expensive to grow or to get a good yield (unlike tobacco) so the market would be competing with the consumers and if the tobacco companies tried to "chem" their buds, eventually an additive free brand would just sweep the market.
