A true Classic here! The Pointer Sisters rocked the 80's with all their awesome songs! :-) This is my fav from them besides " Jump". Both of these songs take me back to those awesome skating rink days of the 80's! The anticipation of Friday all night skating and hanging with your best buds and just living life to the fullest. So carefree and alive. Feeling like life would never change from that moment ! Maybe it was the power of youth but I think it was way more. It was the 80's magic! :-)
all of my systems are down...DOWN,DOWN ,DOWN!!!!! I luv the pointer sisters...I'm so glad I was born 1970 because I was able to enjoy all these great 70's and 80's songs...thanks 4 posting...now I have to get them on my iTunes
@n809n The late 1960's was even more awesome---- especially for psychedelic, underground and progressive rock music. If you are able, check out The Asylum Choir album "Look Inside" from 1968. I still listen to cuts from that album today!
While even prince himself formed Vanity 6 it was this album that took his musical sensibilites and coupled it with great tunes, melodies, and powerful voices and created the girl album that even he was unable to produce
It's not that today's music is crap... there's a lot of talented musicians out there right now, it's just that they aren't as popular as Justine Beaver or Crap$ha
It's so ironic... The 80's and 70's are the best decades for music in history. That's a fact. Yet although the 80's had the best music, it is those people born in the 80's that are responsible for today's crap music. The 80s borns take credit for the decade just because they were born then, yet in reality they should get credit for post-2000 music only.
Yes both the 80s and 90s borns are responsible for today's rot (crap music). The 60s borns made the 80s, the 70s borns made the 90s.
The 80s borns made the 2000-2009 decade and the 90s borns (Justin Bieber) are making this 2020-2019 decade. So it is the 80s borns AND the 90s borns that have created shitty music.
Yes, so really it was the people born pre 1980 that created the great music of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. People born in 1980 would probably have their first song at least by 2000, and that's when music really went downhill.
@Gaznugget yup i mean once you started hearing what the singers/rappers/rockstars in the 2000s were saying it didnt make any sense and everyone who enjoyed the 90s 80s 70s and 60s were like what happened
I have simply to say that I am glad they recorded this song.
They've always been great, and I thought their time to shine was way overdue - this album brought what them the major recognition should have already been there. This album was so different from their previous efforts, and they'd been known to be able to cover several genres...I for one am so glad that they recorded this in the midst of it. I will never tire of this song - even love the backing vocals as much as I do the lead
this is a great synth funk tune penned by brock walsh and mark goldenberg.the sisters sound so sassy and sexy! i heard it first in 84' and i bought the 12" single and the B side was nightline which appears on randy crawfords 1983 album of the same name! the Breakout album also very good, produced by richard perry!
When i heard this song.on a very rare radio station i thought who was it.some dude or his band nope amazing these ladies.its such a rare tune i hav not heard in along long time Legends. should of been a massive worldwide hit it has mean passion.mean sound u can do anything 2 perfect
I've been going through music from different era's like the 70's and 80's and a bit of the 90's and I keep wondering...what the hell happened to music? It used to be pleasant to listen to music, you didn't have to keep changing the radio station to find a decent song for th entire family to listen to back then. The music these days is just fucking awful. If someone doesn't fix it soon I'm afraid we're going to have to say R.I.P. to music.
1) As there is less revenue and less competition in radio, there will be less variety. Stations are all genre-based, so there eclecticism is further diminished - the 5 independent stations in your city that used to compete with each other were bought out by one company and replaced by computers that rotate the same 20 songs all day when they're not running morning and afternoon syndicated talk shows....and you probably lost 2 stations.
The reason why todays music sounds shite, is because technology has made it too easy for people to run loops and synths through a bunch of effects and burn it onto disk.
In The 70's and 80's one had to put a lot more effort into a production, because most stuff still had to be done manually. Even though I love synths and drummachines, as used in this track, they have also become accessible to people with no talent, who utilise the AUTOMATIC functions of synths to get quick results.
Well hold on, the real reason is that music studios are worried about losing profits, especially in the wake of piracy and loss of revenue. So they hire producers and sign artists like Lady Gaga, Rihanna who produce 'safe' commercialized music that sells well. There's not real effort into putting good music out there; the studios care much more about the money now. No 'bedroom' producer who can suddenly afford drum machines and synths is making the music on the radio.
Well, here in Europe being a bedroom producer seems to be your only ticket.
Armin van Buuren, DJ Tiesto, even Junkie XL.
You have a valid point though.
I was more refering to the manual labour that had to be done in the old days because of technology.
You couldn't stuff up a part and so musicians were forced to play really well. Now the computer can correct all your errors, so you don't have to be a good live player anymore. The creases are ironed out that way as well.
i was born in 91 and tasted the sweet elixir of the 90's when 2005 came i decided to never turn on the radio it was just horrible.so i went back to 90's music searching and i found techno it wasn't great but then i found trance and house which was amazing and from house i went to deep house etc. after a couple of year i was very interested in house so i went to its roots and found something amazing the 70's and 80's i never ever imagined it to be amazing i just love it.
@hach75 I already have said RIP to popular music. Its only undergroung stuff like MGMT, Empire of the Sun and Late of the Pier that excite me today :(
@hach75 wrong. radio is crap.music is still great. i love this old stuff like nothing else, but you need to search in different places than radio. there is some fantastic new music being created right now... nowadays you have so many artists also looking back and re-creating that retro 80's sound you just have to search for it. here are some examples: Tensnake- Coma cat. Metro Area- Miura. Maceo Plex- Your Style (Original Mix).....enjoy
@strIctlyUndergr0und There was a time when you didn't have to "look deeper". You simply turned on the radio and it was there. I don't want to have to search for good music today. It's simply too scarce. I'm gonna stick to playing my old school mixes instead.
This song came out in November of 1984 and was featured on the Break Out album. In October of 2002, it was featured on the action video game, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
