This was inspiring; somebody with a job that could easily be dismissed putting a little personality, flair and humor into her work makes the world a slightly better place.
I never noticed this before, but it looks like the scene is already in action, and the mark ("click"?) just tells the editor where the scene/shot is supposed to start?
@l0gically In professional movie making the sound is separate from the video (not like a home video camera where the camera handles both sound and video) That click shows up prominently in video/sound editing software, which makes it a lot easier to match the audio with the video. :)
@HEXAPILOTS Typically a scene is shot from several different angles to capture the various performances. The master shot might be "Scene 39A", the close up of the protagonist "39B", the reverse of that showing the reaction of another actor "39C" and on and on. Typically the letters "I" and "O" aren't used. Run out of letters? No problem, just start using double letters.
@HEXAPILOTS 11G = 11 scene G - ginios, she shouts the word ant the first letter of the word is written along side of the scene number. 39DB means 39 Duchbag :DD 48K - kinopremiere
From what I learned in school, (I'm a post--sound guy so I may get this a bit wrong) a slate is 2 things.
1) The physical clapper board with the Scene/take/Roll info is called a SLATE.
2) Slates have different formats in different countries. I can't remember if its the European or the American version but instead of SCENE they use SLATE.
So the first shot you do would be ROLL 1 SLATE 1 TAKE 1
Than every time you change the shot, it would become SLATE 2, 3, 4 and so on.
@Cdmagee It was point two that I was interested in.
The thing is, I've seen both Scene and Slate separately on the same physical slate/clapperboard. It seems to me that they would then be using two or more slates/clapperboards, unless I'm mistaken...
The only reason to use 2 different clappers would be for a multi-camera shoot (I think).
If scene and slate are on the same clapper, than I think its because you are shooting the same scene, but your changing the camera set up. IE: A conversation with over the shoulder shots. You wouldn't change the Scene # because its the scene of the movie, but its a different camera set up so you change the slate the number.
@TomasCimma "Roll" refers to a serial number the production company is giving to physical media; film, video tape or memory storage device. A typical 35mm film roll last seven minutes so for a feature length film it's not uncommon to use hundreds of them. Different production companies might have different schemes for identifying each roll of film used. For instance, "A207" might mean that roll of film was used in the "A" camera and it's the 207th roll of film used by the production.
assassino, fangulo, strangulata, spaghetti, tortellini, travioli, zucchini, parmegiano... I wonder where she studied italian, and sometimes she really pisses off the actors, even if they laugh

Wouldnt that take the actors out of character by laughing right before they have to act?
BigBagsForRent2 1 week ago
@BigBagsForRent2 Maybe, but with all the stuff that goes on around them while shooting (camera, boom mic, etc..), they are probably used to it.

@l0gically it's used to help sync audio mainly. also the scene tells where it's supposed to lie in sequence.

If you've seen the film you've probably noticed how many scenes were actually cut out, half of this video are glimpses of those scenes.

Thank you very much :) so when I'm using a camera with an HDD, should I leave the roll number '1' ?
TomasCimma 8 months ago
@TomasCimma What you might do on a project like that is have your roll number be associated with each time you download the data off the HDD.
