Parents and teachers did this quite often (and rightfully so) back in the '70s and '80s when I was in school and kids were WELL-BEHAVED, MOTIVATED and RESPECTFUL toward adults. Today, it's quite the opposite. I'm glad this judge/father is keeping the discipline.

I do not believe in physical punishment, but it is an accepted form of discipline according to the bible, like anything else, there are two sides to a story, knowing how morals and values are these days, I see the need for zero tolerance for allowing kids for committing illegal acts. The judge was wrong as he chose to spank her out of anger, but, has anyone read about her being repented for doing something illegal? I think she just justified her illegal acts instead of facing up to them.

I do not believe in physical punishment, but it is an accepted form of discipline according to the bible, like anything else, there are two sides to a story, knowing how morals and values are these days, I see the need for zero tolerance for allowing kids for committing illegal acts. The judge was wrong as he chose to spank her out of anger, but, has anyone read about her being repented for doing something illegal? I think she just justified her illegal acts instead of facing up to them.

But the spanking should be well deserved and the child needs to be reminded how many spankings they will receive for the crime. Without some sort of structure (i.e. "you just earned yourself 3 licks for hitting your sister, do it again and you get 3 more") you are just using your abusive tactics as an excuse to exert your so called "power".

Discipline is a tool to teach children a sense of moral standing and following rules, not torture. A belt should only be used when no other method works, a last resort. I was spanked as a child, and didn't see the harm in it. Then I had my own child, and I spanked her a few times. It made me feel horrible. And it didn't even work as discipline. The point of discipline is NOT to break the spirit or the body in order to get obedient children. The point is to teach discipline (if you have it) so the child knows how to have self-control and self-guidance when they're older. "Spare the rod, spoil the child" does not necessarily have to be taken literally.
