Hey MarkeeD, thanks a lot for addressing this from the PoV of a life-long (adult) gamer. I see a lot of kids in college having a really hard time managing hobby-time and study-time. In fact, the more computer-related courses see a tremendous number of dropouts due to hobbies taking over students' lives. Talking about games without a snickering tone is the first step we really need to take to be able to address this, to make people feel like they aren't being looked down upon when we try to help.
I think a lot of spend so much time online is because unlike reality, we can control our lives online. Reality has been brutal to the greater population in the past few years, so we all scramble for an escape. So here we are, fighting and questing on MMO's to create a second reality, that we feel we can actually enjoy.
I agree, games that have long term goals that you can strive for /could be/ fine training for setting and meeting goals... versus the oft-used theory that gaming leads to shorter attention spans. Frankly I feel that it's TV, which conditions you to only pay attention in small installments that can lead individuals to foster shorter attention spans.
I'm 35 myself (first 'console' was Pong) IMO we gamers aren't much different from other types of game/sports enthusiasts as far are passion goes. And our maturity levels are about as diverse!
Luckily I've never been lectured about this kind of thing, but then again, I do hold down a job and own my own house so it's possible I'm pretty high-functioning. :D
Hey Markee D, I've been a subscriber for a long while now and I don't make comments often and tend to lurk instead of participate outside of viewing videos.
How ever your comment about thinking of real life projects and in your case, companies, as a type of video game really got to me. That is a really great theme to think by and I want to thank you for that, and for your continued efforts on making these videos. I greatly appreciate it!
I like videos like this. Now, I was questioning myself whetever I should unsubscribe, cause you used to make a lot of videos with many different games, and I'm not exactly a hardcore gamer, but lately you've been making videos where you talk before the camera, about things that actually makes sense, and anyone can tell you speak from your own experience.
I like that. And I think you should keep it up.
Can't blame people that come here for the codes though... free is free.
Don't worry much. Been gaming since 1979. When dad sacrificed $99 to buy us the Atari 2600. Haven't stopped gaming since. Greying pretty good on my beard also.
I usually dont leave comments, but here goes nothin. I just HAD to comment on how everytime I see the lady in the end of the video, I smile. She cracks me up. lol. Did she know the sword is called frostmourne? Be sure to give her a nice shout out for me. Cheers =)
great stuff, ive played games all my life hell i will admit i was addicted till i was 19 then life kicked me in the ass and ended up picking it up and chucking it away teaching it to not to kick me, meteorically speaking of coarse. and it is ass you said you could be doing more productive things but ALWAYS input what you learned from games into life because it makes it so much easyer, but don't give up games, for me at least because well life just sucks without it =P.
@Mitsukakex side note:: im 22 and merried still playing 30 hrs. wife dose not bug me about it because shes a gamer too so its a great way to bond by the romantic shots of zombie kills and killing lokest with chainsaws <3. its all about balancing out what you have time for and have to do and when you can squeeze in that little but of game time =D.
Gaming can be considered a valid hobby like any other, but unfortunately there's too much stigma surrounding it. When someone is fullfilling their life responsibilities, no one can really use the 'childish' excuse. Hell, I work 48-60 hours a week, fulfill all my responsibilities & still manage to play 40+ hours a week.
I already have you subscribed for maybe 2 years now :D and i would for sure hang that sword above my fireplace in my living room where everyone would see it :D

@unfreez , My Mom was gray in her 20s. I know I look very grey and I have thought about dying my hair. But honestly I'll just be who I am and people can take it or leave it. :)

You Sir, Look terrific! very healthy! whatever you doing keep doing it. Also great video as usual! On topic tho: im 25 now (still...a "kid" i know lol) but i dont think gamers need to grow up. As long as we (gamers) now when to stop gaming and attend our priorities we dont need to grow up. Its a hobby like any other. If you like it, DO IT. Just know when to stop and when to put other priorities over gaming ofc. Thats the bottom line: Life responsabilities > Gaming. As long as you're aware its ok
Markee you have alot of gaming experience as well as marketing skills,
where do you see the future of Buying/Selling gold/items for real currency in the next 5-10 years? And do you think that it will evolve and grow or dry up and possibly die out?
I'm working on some ideas for an online game that would mimick the old style "Warhammer 40,000" style of club based play, where members of individual clubs can meet up and sell items (virtual items included), create their own campaigns with any GM and Party based setup, such as in traditional based pen-and-paper style rpg's, and add to that a little trick I have been thinking of for quite a while to make it its own micronation online. All I need is the funding to market the idea to the bigwigs.
@minusian2011 If I manage to pound the idea into someone's influential head, I'm sure it would be the dawn of a new era worldwide in gaming interest. After all, it has always been the game's role to advance the technology of the day into previously unseen heights. Just look at the first ever video game on the PDP.
Gaming has become something much like nerds have become something. Once being called a nerd was a offense, now people embrace it.
Gaming is something to the point where its still offendable only if you are offended when called out. I'm a gamer, I live a life in a game and outside one as well. I'm happy with the time I've spent as a gamer.
You must also realize that even some colleges use games like portal and such as actual things in their schools, because of what they teach!
@thauller marcus is a very respectable business man who has ran his company for quite sometime now, he is not some con artist. Also a lot of people use giveaways to gwt subscribers because it works, That sword is probably chump change to marcus.
Its kinda funny when people that aren't gamers tell gamers to get a life because if you think about it they don't have much of one at all, like gamers are having fun mostly all the time and they know how to have fun, but if you look at some of the people that say they have lives what do they do? what they call hanging out at there friends is exactly what gamers do they go over someone else s house and sit on the couch or are owned by there spouse/gf/bf so I don't want a life if that's what it is
Everybody needs to grow up, period. That doesn't mean giving up video games or whatever else you enjoy. It just means taking responsibilities that are expected of you, and putting them before your hobbies. Whether its going to work, or going to school.
I am 36 been gaming ever since I had to stand on a plastic milk crate in the arcade. I remember all the popular Midway titles came out lol... Anyway with regards to the question, in my opinion its relative to your life style. Everyone has choices to make, some people choose to get married and or have kids, which require a lot of a persons time and money.
Well, in my opinion, you're right, but its difficult for other people, because everything depends, not everyone can be productive, because of laziness, lack of time(in other countries people earn 466.37 USD monthly[in poland for example] in that case they have to work more actually) and cant reach the goal, to have time for hobby's. I know its mostly people's falt, but sometimes, we cant do anything with that. Anyways, as a "kid" looking toward my future, im impressed. Good luck, stay player ;].
Why are you using sneaky tactics to get views? You're giving out random codes to get views on all of your videos, and that sword giveaway seems like a very big scam. You just want subscribers because that's a requirement, but what if you pick out a random person that is actually your friend from across the street? I can't see someone actually giving out a heavy life-sized replica sword that costs big money for free...
i probably spend about 70+hours a week gaming, and i have school as well, but i get great grades, B+ only preety much. So i dont see a problem with the massive ammount of gameing, at an age of 17 its better to be playing video games than to be drunk or stoned at some party
@masterbenjamin i agree but disagree. Gaming will only get you so far, socially. You need people in your life or your fucked. and you can still go to parties and not drink or do drugs, im guessing you have no friends. considering yo u play 70 hours a week.
@2point0productionz wow... so because i play 70 hours a week i have no friends? assface-.- .... i play games 70 hours a week because i can, i have real life friends. I'm also a member of mensa, im smarter than most of my teachers(which at times is kinda fun because i get to lecture them) but hey, im not gonna judge, you go ahead and party as hard as you want, go kill your braincells i dont mind... meanwhile ill run my company and play my games, have fun!
@masterbenjamin Sure you haven't been at parties, only SOME people are stoned or drunk at parties, and they're much more fun then staying home playing some stupid shit like WoW or whatever, suure it's fun, but to miss on a party for that? Nah.
@CorvetteBG nahhh, i occationally head over to a party but only to laugh at all the stoners and drunks stumbling randomly around the room and dooing strange things ^^
@masterbenjamin I'm a hardcore gamer, but I still go to parties and just chill with friends, workout, and that is alot better than just play games all the time.
