  • how much guessing in to this project....i've been waiting to this for a while

  • Please take out the music! accept for the ending part!

  • Please take out the music!

  • know how you hear a song, and it just brings back good old memories? this one just does it for me. i can remember how old i was and what movie this song was in when it became popular. man i miss the good old days....

  • Could you tell me what your rear end ratio is and how tall the tires you are using are?

  • @SOLmachineandmfg it was 3.73 and the tires was 16" x i frogot

  • @SOLmachineandmfg does the oil pump run the injectors like a heui ford

  • @12valvepower1 Nope, center lobe on cam actuates each unitized injector. Fuel rack controls amount of fuel injected.

  • where can i get one of these motors complete tranny and all? i have the same truck i was gonna put a cummins but every1 tells me its much easier to fit one of these in it

  • WTF is the music!

  • are you running a 205 t-case? sweet truck, found a 353 with 4 speed I'm trying to get for my 72 3/4 ton 4x4 chev

  • what did u have to do to get ur tranny to fit up

  • @f100stroker347 the bell housing was made for the SM420 trans my trucks stock tranmission. The 6 wheel drive army truck this motor was from used the same trans.

  • Is it turbocharged or supercharged?

  • @NickyTballer all most all DD 2cycles are supercharged, So yes its supercharged.

  • the name of the song is crap unless theres some hot indian girls dancing to it sweet truck though

  • awesome truck man , i am envious and want 1 , keep the videos coming

  • Now you need two JG-40 reduced axles to pull stumps!

  • I have seen aluminum valve covers for 3/53 and or 6v, but I don't think they were much taller. The ones i have seen with jakes used the stock stamped cover and an aluminum spacer in between which I here is almost impossible to find today,or so I here. What did you have covering it up when the jakes were on there?

  • I made a spacer with wood It worked OK but leaked oil. I pulled the Jakes off until I could find or make a better spacer . I could never get the truck to run right with the Jakes

  • You might try Leid Diesel. I know they had tall valve covers meant for 6v53's with jakes. You'll have to drill and tap part of the head to run the oil line in however and add a breather. On my 3-53T I was able to obtain a cast Jacobs spacer. Otherwise there was a cast one on eBay but you'll need to make the bolt extensions that go inside the spacer. Good luck.

  • Jakes???

  • Yes, Jacobs Compression Engine Brakes. They were available for the 53 series Detroits however are very hard to find for this size of engine. Most trucks with 4- or 6v 53's were medium duty and didn't merit the extra cost of the jakes- the service brakes were sufficient. However some folks that repower pickups with DD's utilized them in their conversions. I used 1/2 a set off a 6v53 for my Ford and the other half is for another 3-53T I plan to put together.

  • Thanks for the reply. I should have been more clear with my question. let me ask it properly. What is a "Jake Brake"? V.

  • Do you prefer the 3-53 or 4-53? Which one is the more fuel efficient?

  • 3 53 less power but 1/3 more MPG Geared right a 3-53 would be good in a 1/2 to 3/4 ton truck

  • if your not sitting comfortably. then you must confuse your cat. - monty python

  • i wanna make a go kart with a 353 or a 1 41

  • 6v53. two 353 put together

  • i know a laos guy who does MMA in the states.

  • needs turbo?

  • Did you have to notch your oil pan to gain axle clearance? (mine hits!) its in an '80 half ton 4x. Looking at your pic with the pan off, I cant tell how much room there is between the pickup tube and pan though. May just pull my pan off to see anyway. Nice truck by the way.

  • no this pan fits. they have 100's of differant pans ans oil pick ups.

this motor was almost a bolt in.

Chevy offered them in cube vans in the 60's and in trucks sold over seas for the military

  • God you gotta love the music. nice vid. Did you beef up the front end and are you still running the 1/2 ton axles? Im putting in a 4-53n in my 72 f250 and im thinking that i will need to get new leafs made for the front to handle the wieght.

  • 100% stock Chevy 1964 4x4 drive train.

Just put the springs back to stock hight.

    1/2 ton axles 3.73 gears

  • you need a 6v71t in her. haahahha. monster

  • nice rig. we want to put a intercooler upgrade in our 97 powerstroke

  • A screamin' Jimmy in a 4 x 4 Chevy, very cool. Are the Jake's still on?

  • no pulled them off could not get them set up right Going to take it to a Detroit dealer some time to let them run the rack with them in it. Still looking for the tall aluminum valve cover

  • i got my bell housig and flywheel from an old bread van...in still in the early stages of my project but im going to make rthis happen this video was great inspriation

  • im sitting .

  • guttless wonder

  • guess you need to drive it It goes better then the gas motor and the 30mpg is ok too

  • diesels beat the ass out of electric cars every fucking time. i love our old powerstroke

  • I have neraly the same truck(not 4x4) and i

want to do the same thing! but maybe a 453

for more power?. my main question is how do

you adapt a sm420 to a 353 detroit. or any

detroit to any grany low trans. any help would be great.

  • need to find a motor from the old step vans or some of the military rigs for the bell housing

  • thanks man nice truck!

  • what about that same engine with an automatic transmission.

  • great video! But wtf is up with the song ??? Man! ditch the song!!! HA

  • dont like a little old khmer(cambodian) music ? .

I did put some you may like at the end.

  • what did you have to do to get that detroit to mate with your transmission and what kind of clutch did you use?

  • lol small truck whit big soud of timberjack 230

  • i wanna put one in a 66 cruiser FJ-40.

  • man, that motor looks like it's at home in that chevy.good job.i bet it was quite a task.

  • Thanks,

Its not too bad almost a bolt in.

Just the time to make sure where I wanted it to stay so I would not have to redo any thing.

  • Have you ever thought of putting a stack on it? I figure if you have a large-diameter stack it might make the engine breathe easier and give you more pep. Just a thought.

  • Its exhust is open 200% more the stock. Any larger or more open wont do nothing now.

Im thinking of a stack just to keep the sound up high .

  • How did you add that fuel door? What did you get it from?

  • Its from a 80's dodge truck fit like it was made for it. I'm using a 22gal suburban fuel tank for a 60 Chevy suburban. Im going to finish the body work one day. Maybe when I ship the truck to cambodia soon.

  • I thought the truck was already in Cambodia.

  • im sitting

  • But are you sitting comfortably.

My truck has 12 valves too.

  • He thinks he's cool because he likes old antiquated cummins engines! haha 2 valves per cylinder and 4 stroke too! Detroits are the greatest.

  • motelcambodia,I got my 453 in and running the problen with my kill arm was I had 3stuck injectors,so far I have done no modifacation to the 79chevy cab,I just raised it 2inchesI wanted to keep every thing stock---

  • trains no longer blow up, like they did 200 yrs ago.. alot safer

  • I love your truck you can't beat the sound of a 2 cycle detroit. This is GREAT.

  • хачики

  • hows the power of hte 3cyl, compared to a big thumpin usa diesel

  • detroit IS american, long before cummins

  • that is a USA diesel

  • funny, becuase this is a big thumpin usa diesel, lol

  • audisportiberica has thinking that i am bad, oh well, cant please all the people

  • I thought the 3-53 and the 4-53 were the same. My 4-53 has the exhaust/intake on the opposite sides.

  • you can have them on any side , blower ether side, starter on any side ,governor any side . Have the motor run CW or CCW. put the head on any way. turn the oil pan around.

Flip the block end for end. Them motors have end less combinations you can build them in

  • Sweet! I was wondering why mine looked wrong. I thought I had a boat motor or something. Thanks for the input! If you ever need any custom machined parts, let me know. I own a CNC machine shop. custombilletworks dot com. Thanks!

  • the biggest diesel engine in the world, is in a ship.. and its a two stroke diesel.. wartsiller/sulzer

  • i feel like in the great farming fields of cambodia, working rice fields

  • im sitting

  • No...you don't mix gas and oil.

2 stroke diesels are quite powerful compared to a give 4 stroke, especially when you start scaling the size up.

  • do you mix oil and gas, or is that gas 2 poppers

  • pol pot would be pleased

  • there should be a basic conversion kit for detroit diesel engines to gmc/chev pickup trucks. i'd definately like to know what it takes to get an SM420 or SM465 hooked up to the 53 series...?

    just love the truck though

  • that really is a performance engine,I had to take the top off of govn, the stop was stuck,it was set up to go toward the front of engine, the roll pin if on the engine side just bearly moves,if on the buffer screw side it moves 1/2-3/4,but that is toward rear of engine, dont want to start it until I can stop it,thank s for the reply love your truck, your workmanship is excellent

  • Make sure you dont have the levers wrong the motor will run away and blow up with no turning it off. The stop lever if wrong can push on the throttle you motor will see 100000 rpm then the rods come out the side.

  • 10k rpm, that would be awesome for about 10 sec

  • why the two oil pumps or did you mean two oil pickups,I have a 453 in a 79chevy,not quit ready to drive but really looking forward to it,I have a question on the kill cable when you pul it how far does it travel, mine only moves about a quater inch,is that right-------

  • Nope it has two oil pumps and two pick ups .This is the high performance military 353 put out the same power as a 453 w/o turbo. The front oil seal is 71 series . I think with your kill cable a lot depends on the governor mine moves 1/2" to 1" at the choke cable the truck come with .

  • Detroits certainly are very musical engines! The fuel economy is impressive!

  • Yup. Definitely a cool truck. 2-stroke diesels rules!

  • MC, thanks for posting the photos and new video. I really liked the hill climb, that thing just tractors right on up! Very nice. BEAUTIFUL work! *drool* :)

  • That's one cool truck right there. How much did everything cost and what needed to be modified for the swap?
