  • The music is breathtaking (as any and all Frank Zappa is). The dancing is breathtaking. The two of them together give me the chills.

  • To be honest I wish my I.Q. was a little higher because I would be so obsessed : )>

  • ..IS THAT MADONNA ? jokin

  • I am so honored to have worked with this guy...this world that we've got without him...we deserve. Can't wait to join him again on the other side!

  • wait a minute... that chicks a... a... dude! Oh well. Still look good, lol

  • WE MISS YOU, FRANK!!!

  • @crabula weird sidenote to this comment: I wasn't sure if the comma was supposed to be in there so I did a search on yahoo for: "grammar we miss you frank" . The 4th search result on the list was lyrics for a Zappa song.

  • The funny thing is that when you have read that Zappa was in total control of his performances, you have the weird feeling that this dance had been under his microscope before allowing it to go on stage...

  • Outstanding!!!

  • I don't understand why he's getting this much praise for this song.

  • @dannyinternetz It’s not just for this song. The applause was for the countless hours of joy Frank had given them throughout the years through his music. Frank was very sick with cancer at this time and this was his last public appearance. The crowd wanted to show Frank that they loved him while they had the chance.

  • @dannyinternetz you mean the 2 minutes of applause? this was the last 6 minutes of an hour long performance thats why theres so much applause. as for the song itself, it is incredibly difficult. its difficult to the extent that when he originally composed it he thought it was impossible for humans to play it.

  • @rickyjshiznit ...this song doesn't seem that difficult.

  • @jazzbuckeye are you a musician? try learning it

  • @jazzbuckeye I prosume you haveing a joke....right? Not that hard? Well......

  • @Nintendofan981 I'm not joking at all. There are so many songs that are more technically difficult to play than this.

  • @jazzbuckeye of course there has to be a couple, but this one is already 10/10 in difficulty brah

  • @rodcrippler It's really not at all.

  • Jesus H Christ. I love Frank Zappa and now I know what dance is!

  • im impressed.... ._. haha dweezil was in the audience right??

  • The standing ovation at the end gives me goosebumps each time. The recognition of his genius, by so many. It's wonderful, breathtaking. Zappa lives on. He's the best.

  • Simply The best. Big Musician big men.

  • This guy wrote some of the most intense, difficult and amazing music of all time. There is simply no disputing it, haha!

  • das war der beste musiker und mensch in meiner Zeit, und die guten gehen immer zu früh

    toni

  • Why did He die so soon ? You can imagine what He could do with nowadays technology ?!!!

  • Great performance de La la la human step !!! and what about Mr Zappa always with awesome musician....

  • he is still ahead of our time

  • FREAKIN' AWESOME!!! WHAT A MUSICAL GENIUS!!!! THANKS!!!

  • And he'd written that tune (for Synclavier) thinking no human musicians could play it!

  • God, I miss this man.

  • EXPLICIT LYRICS; PARENTAL ADVISORY

  • de wuevosssss

  • Dweezil in the Tee shirt and backwards cap is awesome, still just his dad playing another gig somewhere. Way to stay true to yourself Dweezil!!

  • Performed in Boulder, CO the evening of 15 January 2011. Great fun.

  • the height of human achievement i am so glassed he got to see this work preformed properly before he passed

goddam what a multiple layered mind fuck

  • who the fuck are the eleven, never seen good performance and introvertiv music?

    Perhaps you like Milli Vanilli?

  • s' the blonde half o the routine a dude?

  • Frank knew how to put the "eyebrows" on orchestrations. This is his Bolero.

  • ...WHAT?

  • god.

  • Is that Gail Zappa @ 4.11?

  • @Colston Yes, that is Gail. And we can't leave out Dweezil and Moon Unit @4:20

  • @parkyboy1959 Yes indeed.

  • Comment removed

  • @Colston Yes it's Mrs Frank Zappa..Dweezil and Ahmet behind her!

  • L'ultimo accordo che Zappa fa suonare all'orchestra prima di uscire di scena ha un valore inestimabile. Fantastico Frank, unico.

  • just for clarification, the person with the white wig is a dude right? I can't what gender that person is for some reason.

  • fantastique, merveilleux. un grand merci!

  • This is great that he got a chance to perform this before he died. They adored him over in Europe. I think this ovation went on for like 20 mins.

  • Not to ruin it for everybody but... where the dancer REALLY necessary? I think with the audience there, the piece and evening could have done without it.

  • Una muestra mas de la genialidad del maestro Zappa! inderdaad...ultra bakan!

  • I wonder how much tape it took to hold that thing down?

  • It bothers me that in one of his last interviews he said he didn't care if he was remembered at all or what he was remembered for. I think that if the world didn't remember Frank Zappa, it would be much worse than it is now.

  • dududududududududu-dududu-dudududu-dududududududud-dududud-dudududdududududuu-dudududu-dudududud-bababababababab-dudududududu-dududud-dududu-dudududud-dududududududdududu-CRASSUAHBUdududududududdudud-dududududud-dududud-dududududududud-duddu-dudududdud-uddudududududududud

  • @tcpitts

Dude looks like a dude in a dress!

  • la wea bakan

  • Excelente esta versão orquestral!

Só veio a acrescentar à original, criada no Synclavier para o álbum "Jazz from Hell"!

  • Frank loved La La La Human Steps and was involved in their inclusion in the show.

  • what a genious! My best influence and inspiration!

  • I suppose those dancers were not Frank's idea.

  • @CaptainBuster why would you suppose that?

  • i wish he was still here. just imagine......

  • Roxy and Elsewhere is essential

  • Holy smokes, that's what you call an applause!

  • @MistahhB

    Joe's Garage

  • I'm just starting to dig into franks music, what albums do you guys think I should start with? the only one I've got is Freak Out.

  • @MistahhB

For starting I suggest "One Size Fits All", "Overnite Sensation" and "Apostrophe".

    Greetz!

  • I agree with Rodriquez.

You can also add Sheik Yerbouti. The songs on this album are a bit more accessible.

The albums Rodriquez posted however, are a must for any Zappa fan :).

  • Overnight Sensation, Zappa in New York, Apostrophe, all great albums.

  • @MistahhB

I would recommend Roxy & Elsewhere, One Size Fits All, Lather, Make a Jazz Noise Here, and then everything else you can find.

  • @MistahhB Roxy & Elsewhere, Overnite Sensation, Apostrophe. Those are probably the 3 most essential. and like andruvan suggested Joe's Garage is excellent :)

  • the guitar and band version is on jazz from hell cd

  • he fucking conducted a symphony?

holy fuck...i didn't know he did such a thing...long live Frank

  • @duchbag Zappa wanted to become an avantgarde orchestral composer. - meanwhile, that thing with guitar and mothers of invention happened and his plans got delayed a bit...

  • @BlueCougar that thing with guitar and the mothers payed the mortgage!!!!!

  • Miracolo.

  • Thanks!

  • I really love this version of G-spot Tornado. But in terms of Zappa "does humor belongs in music" I consider these dancers over the top. At least I laughed a lot. Looks like she wants to get rid of her g-spot.

  • doverlin. I feel sorry for you if you think the dancing is the best element of this performance. This is one of Zappa's best orchestral pieces. Can't you hear the brilliance.

  • Hi! Leonardo, Thanks!! I'm glad we hooked up!! I look forward to sharing more music with you!! Blessings!! Tamre'

  • AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME! The MASTER in his ELEMENT!

  • 2 months later he died. There is an interesting article on Wikipedia on Zappa. Great musician. Great guitarist. Listen to the "Inca roads" solo.

  • Well, this is indeed one of Zappa's simplest tunes, and even so it's not exactly a "walk in the park" to perform these rhythms and wide leaps with absolute cohesion and without letting the tempo drop - if you do some research you'll find out that even the EM had a hard time performing it and almost had to withdraw it from the program. His music can be far more complex than that, though, and in the case of the really complex pieces, I can assure you the rating is accurate.

  • Sorry but I am going to have to side with richacapo here.

Prog rockers too often (though Zappa wasn't just prog rock, I am aware) want to pride their musical taste as "The most demanding".

But really... you can't compeat with the classics...

  • "The classics"... like Beethoven and Mozart? Yeah, right...

Go listen to "Mo 'n Herb's Vacation", I'm sure you'll find it demanding enough. lol

  • @NitramZiarreh I was thinking more in the lines of Bela Bartok and Gustav Holst, though the ones you mentioned can be extremely technically demanding also.

Though I'm not a fan of Mozart.

  • magisterial

  • is it available on dvd?

  • legend

  • Frank Zappa o melhor de todos os tempos.

    Construtor e desconstrutor de música.

    Inigualável.

    Frank Zappa = música pura

    Parabéns.

  • I just discovered that my twenty month old daughter loves this. She couldn't take her eyes off of it.

  • frank was way ahead of his time ..

  • @1dudeman2 not only in his time, he is still pretty ahead of those petty musicians from today...

  • What other modern music concert could ever get a 20-minute (!) standing ovation?

  • @HomelyCooking What present day composer could draw people into modern music? It's a shame Zappa didn't refuse to die.

  • the ensemble can hardley keep up in some spots...lol its funny

  • @stratdaddy89 the cd version on "The Yellow Shark" is a lot tighter.

  • Simply amazing. Probably the greatest musician of all time.

  • He was the greatest subversive musician in History.he was our Modern Day Mozart.

    I miss Frank.

  • @MarxEngelsHoChiMinh Funny that someone with a triple commie name would be so bullish on a man that was a die-hard capitalist. Yet, you are correct. Zappa was an artist who will live on ... long after even the most popular and marketable of twentieth century musicians will cease to be remembered.

  • @OpheliaRising I think so. I mean, I could put it in higher-def and zoom in, but I'd feel a bit weird if you turn out to be right...

  • @mysticalboxresident I think you may be replying to the wrong person Mystical, since I have no idea what the hell you are talking about. I like to think that I am right, though. ;)

  • @OpheliaRising Yeah, meant to the post after yours, not quite sure how I managed that...

  • @OpheliaRising each successive generation grows accustomed to what the parents expose them to.Unfortunately, the past generation doesn't get exposed to classical thru avent garde 20th century music and the new generation is stuck only hearing rumors of zappa's songs titled "don't eat the yellow snow" and they're not interested in persuing it because they think he was some type of boring comedian.

  • @MarxEngelsHoChiMinh you speak the truth gone to soon RIP

  • @MarxEngelsHoChiMinh

    probably?

  • @MarxEngelsHoChiMinh Yeah for sure !!

  • The woman, Louise Lecavalier, is getting close to 50 years old and she is still an active dancer. Unbeleivable.

  • you know, when i think about frank's life, what better way to spend your time on earth?

  • Yeah, really. Do whatever you want and want for nothing. He didn't care what people thought about him, he wast just doing what he wanted to do musically, and he had more control over his music than anybody else in modern history. He has had more "firsts" in the music and recording industry than anybody else, and he made a great living doing it. And, he is one of the most respected guitarists among musicians. He was truly one of a kind.

  • Genial!

  • I didn't know the Yellow Shark performances were filmed! Has this ever been commercially released? Is the whole concert available somewhere?

  • Good question coastercubtx. If it's out there, im gonna buy it!

  • they must have been in great shape [both the orch. and the dancers] ! i'd have thought this work of frank's would have been too much for humans to play; thanx for restoring my lingerring hope in mankind!!

  • Ahhh....this is the phase of Zappa I'm unfamiliar with and I want a lot more of. Remniscent of the older Waka Jawaka and Big Swifty. I woke up with the strange urge to hear his Jewish Princess today! ;p

  • That's La La Human Steps and a great piece from Frank

  • I wish a bit more focus was put on the players then the dancers, but that's just me.

  • the only fault in the dancing was that it was too short. dancing should have been featured in more of the Frank Zappa bits.

  • Fantástico e saudoso! Sabe se existe um DVD desse concerto? Abraço

  • Bravo!

Zappa will always be unique, an absolute Master.

Thanks for each and every note Frank.

  • I like the way she moves :P

  • It's like 17 years later and she may be a bit old now, but I kept thinking she'd be a perfect Sheena of the Jungle

  • you fail

  • Comment removed

  • sorry, I was responding to someone who thought this was going to be a rap video. This song is amazing!

  • D'oh. I fail at not reading past the first page. II am sorry.

  • no way brah

  • Jeez, we miss you Frank!

  • fuck year yh8.avi

  • Ha ha. :)

  • What a stand up guy, An absolute legend, and in a time where ignorance and selfishness reign supreme he was able to give even the most cynical of people hope!! IM SURE THAT IF REMEMBRANCE IS WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN PEPPER, THAT MANY MEALS WILL BE SEASONED WITH THE MEMORIES OF ZAPPA

  • this is one of the best youtube comments ever. "k"udoos!

  • @highnoon25 the best comment about zappa that i've ever seen.

  • This is pure Art

  • OMFOMGOMGOMGOMFOMG

  • Which of the "Yellow Shark" concerts was?

    Austria or Germany ones?

  • this is freaking impossible to play on any instrument

how'd he get a whole orchestra of people who could play it?

    amazing...

  • he tought it would be impossible for any ensemble to play it, but he probably didn't count on some exotique instruments to fill the impossible parts. btw, one person can play this song, you would just have to use the "synclavier", an highly complex instrument mainly used in orchestral composition

  • You wouldn't necessarily have to use the synclavier, you could use a number of different instruments to make the basic structure of the song come out in a different way. It all depends what the artistic intent is (which is definitely fulfilled in this clip) and you may well end up making it worse but the synclavier isn't the "only" way to play this particular piece. Of course there are others which are essentially impossible without computers.

  • This is a masterpiece, in absolutely all respects. Incredible how they could play this, it's calibrated like a Swiss watch, and it's even funky.....such a pity FZ was already so sick at the time

  • IT'S THE MODERN DANCE

  • what kind of drugs make you do this

  • zappa was not a fan of drugs, in his opinoin pot just made him sleepy and could count the number of times he tried it on 1 hand. he just had an amazing mind.

  • i majorly respect em on that level. a lot of trippers in his time and yet he created such sound. its amazing.

  • Comment removed

  • If I recall Zappa said drugs were boring

  • While admittedly a little distracting, the dancers are also in-fucking-credible. Just one moment out of sync and all kinds of bodily damage could be done to themselves or each other. Yet through the entire orchestration and beyond, they remain perfect. From the dancers, to the conductor, to the musicians themselves, there's an enormous amount of talent on that stage. This is one that is so magnificent, so intense that I enjoy listening to/watching it over and over and over again.

  • was actually looking for g-spott but this sure is an amusing show

  • The dancers are talented and entertaining, I would have preferred a little more focus on the musicians however. Amazing composition.

  • Here is a "bluegrass" version of G-Spot.

    zappafan(dot)net/songs/song_item(dot)asp?NewsID=225

    Very nice!!!

  • This is one of Zappa's best compositions. I hope this song will live on for many generations to come.

For a large group of musicians to perform this piece is no mean feat. Zappa has set the bar very high.

  • What an utter legend Frank is. Saw Dweez last year too. If you get the chance take it up!

  • The dancers are NOT necessary.....

  • i don't think so...

    the dancers are great too

  • what do you mean?!?!?! they're frikin amazing!! (And I am, by no means a fan of dancers)

  • What a crazy, fantastic man.

  • it's funny to watch him conduct. Great piece.

  • dweezil played this at zappa plays zappa when i went last year. it was awesome.

  • amazing this song ever got played live without a synthclavier.

the lengthy standing ovation was justified.

wish i had seen this amazing event.

  • OMG ITS MADONNA (go away!!)

  • I was there!

  • ZAPPA IS A GENIUS

  • Ode to FZ:

There once was a musician named FRANK

Who was proud to be raised as a YANK

    His songs copied no OTHERS

    His band were all MOTHERS

And his critics were pretty much WANK

  • HAHA!!!! XD
