  • This gives me goose bumps everytime I watch it. Amazing!!!

  • I grew up in South Africa, saw live Zulu performances as a kid, and I've seen the Tattoo in Edinburgh.

Thanks for posting. This is about as good as it gets for me.

  • @yakfitguy

No probs, ive seen this vid a million times and I still love it. Just wish I could find a better version though as I recorded this on my phone.

  • Thank you for posting this. I had the 1996 tattoo on video too, love this performance...just so dark and beautifull :)

  • Hey I remember those things "VCRs" lol. Anywho nice vid.

  • OK great performers/material, why has no one mentioned this seems to be a camera phone filming of a TV monitor? UGH! Hard to watch/listen to.

  • ...Because they can clearly see that it me recording from a TV and do not feel the need to repeat this pointless comment! If you have this on DVD or a better version then please post as I and others would appreciate this, if you do not, and find it hard to watch/listen, then dont! SIMPLES....

  • jestarsrace06-who do you mean the scots or the zulus ?

  • i dont get it. shouldnt they like use their own traditional song instead

  • this is Edinburgh Military Tattoo 1996,... Honoring, Robert Burns,... These guys are the Natal Native Police of South Africa

  • This is awesome... do they do produced versions of the EMT's on DVD for sale?

  • There's Edinburgh Tattoo's on DVD from 2003 to present (latest one 2009). However, if you go to the Tattoo Shop on the Edinburgh Tattoo site you can buy the Edinburgh Tattoo from 1998 to 2002 on a DVD Boxset.

  • Oh excellent thank you!

  • Makes me very proud to be South African.

  • i have it on pc but it wont upload unknown error?.

  • That can be annoying somethimes I hope it works.

  • Maybe you can't do the whole one, maybe you have to split in parts. I don't mind.

  • i would say that this one is a classic

  • I'm looking forward to it.

  • you want the whole lot?

  • That would be great yes please.

I love the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, it's a fantastic show. I've not seen the classic Edinburgh Tattoo from the 90's so this would be my first taste of it.

  • i wonder how this song became perfect a tribal song its like it fits any tribe and any culture thanx for uploading .

  • i have it on tape 1996 i think it def had zulus on it and pipe s with it playing gael

  • Will you be able to upload it?

  • Brilliant - wish it were longer.

Wierd Islanwanda and Rorke's Drift feeling though...

  • I am in shambles, tears, so moved. So moving.

  • *_*

  • also have whole tape i think some where

  • Someone has uploaded the whole of the BBC coverage of the 2008 Tattoo. (In parts of course). If you find the 1996 one will you be able to upload it. It doesn't matter if you can't but it would be very nice to see it.

I like the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, it's a fantastic show every year especially Scotland's heritage. I've watched it on TV every year since 2002.

  • this is the 1996 version i think

    best tats ever

  • Wow, that was awesome.

  • That's spectacular... I was there once many years ago and it was very moving. I can only imagine what that must have been like...makes the hairs on the back of the neck stand up. Thanks for posting that!!

  • powerful

  • Zulus, like Aztecs, wee almost never taken as slaves.

  • Hello.

I'm interested in the Edinburgh Military Tattoo but I'm just wondering do you have any more highlights than the Gael from the 1996 Tattoo?

  • Hi

No im sorry I dont. I havent actually been (would love to) but that clips taken off of a tv from my phone.

    Sorry.

    MJ

  • Thats ok Thanks.

  • que dire ? sublimissime !!

  • Awesome - Martin Mckay

  • amazing tune played to the highest stardard thanx for posting

  • It's because of hard to find songs like this that I love YouTube. I heard this song a couple years ago and was happy to find it here. Still looking for the original MP3 that I heard (I was performed on a different date I think). Thanks for posting.

  • thanks. if you search online the original is from the film last of the mohicans and i think its called the kiss. google it.. something should come up.

  • doe you know if there is sheet music for the bagpipes on this song?

  • Yeah, I have the copy from that movie, but I was referring to the specific MP3 for the Zulu/Gael bit played at the Edinburgh military tattoo. That is a hard version to find, and this appears to be it.

  • its by a band called clannad dere an irish band they ur da ones who done the film version of da song 4 last of the mohicans.

  • Hey Cathar. Thanks for the message you idiot! I'm shocked to see someone in there 40's acting like a teenager, and spelling like one... its mohicans you pr*ck!

  • I CAN'T SPELL...??? It should be 'their' 40's not 'there' 40's you pr*ck! I take it you're a nigger lover then... Kissy kissy gay boy.

  • LMAO - OMG... Kissy Kissy gay boy. Are you serious or have I just travelled back in time to my school days. Racist comments and then the big finale... kissy kissy gay boy, HA HA - Are you really 40 odd or am I writing to a 6 year old? - what a sad old man you are. :)

  • Wow. So amazingly beautiful. Thanks for recording it and putting it on so people can watch (and listen to) it!!!

  • no problem, im glad there are people out there who can enjoy this as much as me. its so simple but i love it. still makes hairs stand on end even though i've seen it a million times.

    peace...

  • This is one of the most awesome performances I've ever seen. What pipe band is this playing? I'm assuming this is from one of the Edinburgh Military Tattoos. Any idea what year? Thanks for posting this video.

  • the band is the royal scots dragoon gaurds the date would be around 200 as it sounds like the old setting of the tune

  • Your correct the band is The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. This is the 1996 Edinburgh Military Tattoo. I was there that year with the Pipes & Drums of The 2nd Bn. The Royal Canadian Regiment. It was the best 6 weeks of my life.

  • 1997 Tattoo

  • Wrong This is the 1996 Edinburgh Military Tattoo. I was performing in it with the Pipes & Drums of The 2nd Bn. The Royal Canadian Regiment. The Theme that year was Robbie Burns.

  • Yes I agree. I was trying to find legit footage of this vid everywhere but couldn't find it so the best I could do was this recording on my mobile phone, not great copy but clear. If you want a full length version of the bag pipe version buy Spirit of the Glen (the royal scots dragoon guards). I got mine from Amazon...awesome song!

Good luck and glad u liked the vid!

  • This song sounds awesome on the bagpipes. I heard something like it done by a band called Burning Bagpipes, and have been looking for it ever since.

    Thanks!
