I'm glad other people are spotting his ability as a guitarist. The multitracking stuff tends to take prominence and his guitaring often gets overlooked.
All the prancing pink pony heavyguitarists of the 70's 80's and 90's can go suck it up to this guy. His use of the guitar outshines e-v-e-r-y s-i-n-g-l-e one of them. That goes both in terms of technique and overall musicality!
After listening to recordings as this one you got to ask yourself the question of: Who the hell is Slash? Who the hell is Satriani? Who the hell is Vai? etc., etc., etc... They seem like fashion and pop entertainers whereas Mike Oldfield use the guitar for creating ART!
Soooooo many many tx for posting all those wonderfull vids from Mike Oldfield...he was...is...will always be my favorit !!This guy is a genius !!I saw him LIVE here in germany...Against many thanks...
This man has supplied us with some truely fantastic music, some of the best in my opinion. Ive been listening to mike oldfield since dob as thankfully my dad has great taste in music. Pleased to have highest rated comments on this video :) i was known as gibsonj200 back then
@PeterSpaeter96 The Line up is: Mike Oldfield (of course), the Singer is Maggie Reilly, Keyboards is Tim Cross, Bass & Guitar is Rick Fenn, Percussion is Mike Frye & the late Morris Pert (the hairy one)
Twenty years ago, when i was a young man, use to believe myself as a part of a selected, maybe secret elite of fortunate people who could enjoy and "understand" this musical jewels. Today, i know i was right.
@birth46day ... I don't know where you are from or what age you have, but I am 45 and I remember to think exactly the same, lol. It's almost strange when I watch these clips and see that so many enjoy them also. Cheers!
Maybe its the genius composing and arrangements, the professional playing, with mind ,heart, and soul The lack of shown ego on stage"I am hipper than the world and you too" .
I recently bought the Classic rock magazine. It had attached the Montreux Jazz festival sampler. First time I heard this music. Blew me away. Fantastic Guitar playing by the wonderful and talented Mike Oldfield.
the players look like there having so much fun. I would so love to be on stage and attempt to rock out like they do, but i would probablly get booed off the stage :)

this guys an absolute music legend. he has a real unique sound that just blows you away, and his technical ability to play the guitar and god knows how many other instruments, but in particular the guitar is second to none.
Amazing to see & hear Mike's solos, especially at the end, when he goes into that really fast and unmistakable part.. And he does all that with his fingers, not with a pick... Just amazing!
yevo escuxando mike oldfield toda mi vida y tengo 19 años. he ido a mutitud de concietos (el mejor en salamanca en 1998 creo recordar) pero de los mejores segun mis padres fue este.

yeah this is class, and mike's totally in his own class check out 1:40 when he comes in with that guitar rythm. love all his works.big thanks to mike oldfield & to whom placed the vid on youtube.
I can't stand hearing this part without clapping my hands here and there all around my desktop objects and now they're all scattered around the floor just because of you, Mike! You're guilty! =D
As Mozart was a famous classic music compositor, Mike is a great modern music compositor. Platinum is really a hymn to the music. Impossible not to listen and listen again this music. Thanks a lot Mr Oldfield.
North Star is soooooo beautiful... this song makes me cry whenever I hear it... GREAT INTERPRETATION, MIKE!! and... yeah... he's a genius, listen to Tubular Bells, Hergest Ridge, Ommadawn or Amarok, please ;)
deveras singular a musicalidade do Sr. Campovelho. Not a genius, but a very good musician with very good musicians.. and wonderful Oldfield style in the majority of his songs...hehe yes he knows his own style and makes it of the best way!
