This is definitely an unorthodox and incorrect way of processing fish. As a fisherman and fish processor, you must first kill the fish. To do otherwise could result in serious injury, especially from a species that has poisonous spines like the catfish. I have never in my career witnessed any processors using this technique.

I'm reading through the comments and I see a lot of people saying, "Cant they just kill the fish first before skinning them?" Yes, that's true and sure it would be less cruel but why kill fish at all? Fish are animals, just like dogs, cats, etc. Don't they deserve some dignity from us? This is why I went vegetarian and now vegan -- because regardless of HOW an animal is killed - I don't think they should die for us in the first place!

The readers of my paper were shocked and disgusted enough to stop reading my paper.
