Am going to see Wicked for the first time in London in October and can't wait. :) Am a big fan of the German version, which sadly finished this weekend, and know all the songs on the cd of that. You should check out Willemijn Verkaik singing their version of this called 'Gutes Tun' She is amazing and I believe her to be the best Elphaba.
@halloween1985 acctually, they can see us, i sat on the front row a couple of weeks ago and rachel tucker&mark evans said to me and my friend they saw us at stage door <3
@Elphaba88 Kerry is amazing, but in her own way Rachel is brilliant as well - don't compare the two, but once you've seen her, inbox me and tell me what you think - and Fiyero, Nessarose, and Glinda aren't too shabby either atm... You'll enjoy it, I guarantee ;)
when i seen it on broadway they didnt use as much smoke becuase the elphaba had something wrong with her chest but i dont think you can compare both performances both west end or broaday they are 2 completerly differently experiences and if i am honest i preffered brodway
I love this. You said you recorded more - is there any way you can link your other accounts? I have been attending shows since I was little, and Les Mis used to be my all time fave... til Wicked came along. There is just so much truth and passion in this musical, and I love it above and beyond all others. That says a lot! So, if you can share the rest... I would be very appreciative. I love how she seems to sing this directly to you :) Irony?
Kerry Ellis is by FAR the BEST Elphaba EVER!!!!! Such power and raw emotion in her voice, yet at the same time she controls it marvelously, and fantastic acting and facials as well!!! She is just simply AMAZING!!!
i wish i could just "skype" Dianne lol she was awesome in the 39 steps but sadly i'm not that well connected. Kerry was just stunning here although as Elphaba i generally prefer Rachel Tucker. Bring Back The Bubbles!!
@pilchard96 Yea i saw it in June and during no good deed the smoke kinda faded in and out! But was there on saturday and the stage was absolutely filled...looked stunning.
@Itsnotlying27 same! The matinee? Rachel was on amazing form, it was phenomenal... i was 3rd row stalls, dead centre. It was absolutely incredible, and NGD smoke was bang on :D
@pilchard96 yepp Matinee, Row F, just off to the right as you look at the stage. She was amazing, wee Fiyero Riff and everything! Louise was amazing aswell. Are they still not using bubbles with glindas bubble? Are they gonna get some new machines?
@Itsnotlying27 Louise's DIIIEEE note in NOMTW was actually amazing, and one highlight was George Ure's IIIIITTTSSS BOOOOOOQQQ! That cracked me up, and i loved it when after coming down from WWOTE Rachel nearly tripped over and broke her broom :') And when Lewis missed the gun in the Cornfield :')
I noticed the lack of bubbles aswell! And i thought DG could have used a bit more smoke...
i love kerry! shes one of my favorite elphies and i also love the tiny differences between the different productions like lighting and sets i might go see wicked in london, tho ive seen it many times in new york
In regard to the high rated comments above, cn i say im a performer and it is true that on that kind of stage it is unlikely tht the performers see the audience at all when they are further upstage. however, further downstage you can see the audience's outline, and if you are bent down out of the light at the front of the stage, they become clearer still! besides, thankyou for uploading this, its a great video! if people are happy to criticise, they shouldnt even watch the video at all!!
The line she begins to sing is "one question haunts and hurts, too much, too much to mention". So she'd be shaking her head since she didnt want to think about "that" question.
I love Kerry Ellis! Her vocals on this song aer simply ah-mazing, and a round of applause for the tech people, too, for pulling off the wonderful effects! :D
i saw this a few days ago omg amazings!!! this is one of my favourite songs!!
my elphaba was Rachel Tucker from the andrew lloyd webber show " I'd Do anything" in the west end.
she was extraordinary! i think every actress takes something new to the role and that is good you don't want exact copies. i bought the soundtrack but personally prefered the west end version i saw to broadway recording...
coudl be because ti was recorded mind you.. but yeh that's my opinion
Holy crap, this girl is so damned good! I saw her 'The Wizard and I' performance earlier and was like but she's too cute for this but feck was I wrong...she is AWESOME!
I wasn't saying I have seen it more than you - LOL. I could care less about the amount .. I was just informing you that I wasn't basing my knowledge on 'close minded' experiences. I am happy you have seen the production more than 12 times in London .. I hope you have seen the States' as well. Anyhow I got my answer from Dianne and will pester you no more.
I did not say they could not see the audience .. just not well enough to know exactly who is filming them at a time. I will Skype Dianne this weekend and ask her. Then I will have my answer and be on my merry way. FYI - I have seen London's production 12 times and prefer it over Broadway's .. oh, and yes, I have been on the stage ... if you go again just ask for a tour and they may let you wander about - that is what I did. Of course, they may have felt sorry for the American ;-)
@halloween1985 Wow 12 times. I don't want to get in to who's seen it the most let's just say that I was at 12 a very long time ago. Anyway I am not lying, go ahead and Skype Dianne if you want but if you really want to find out I recommend you ask Kerry next time yo see her ;) Arghh. I just dislike close minded people like you. I mean is because of jealousy you question me or what is it?
Anyway, I am done arguing with you, have a good chat with Dianne :-)
@halloween1985 i have many friends in shows in the west end and they can easily see the first 4-5 rows, ive even had friends wink at me when they spot me in the audience, and video cameras are easier to spt because of the bright red record light, the casts often tell the theatre management where the people doing the filming are sat, how do you think the ushers at the back can tell where to go to when they tell people to stop
I can't help but feel you are stretching the truth. Even if she saw a camera's light in your general vicinity .. it would be impossible to pin-point it to you. Actors cannot see the audience's faces well - if at all during the production ... so your story seems strange. Nice video, though.
@halloween1985 well you can believe what ever you want. I have no reason to "stretch the truth". Btw have you been standing on the Apollo Victoria stage lately to be able to make an accusation like that? Do yourself a favour, next time you see Wicked in London, ask the cast if they can see the first row of people, then you will get your answer.
@mischadee actually from being in many productions in different venues I must say that the performers can see more of the audience than you think. It isn't like a black whole beyond the proscenium. The lights from the stage light up a great deal of the audience. If they were filming from the first few rows especially it is totally plausible she saw their face and would recognize them.
@halloween1985 Umm yes they can, we sat front row dead centre at wicked london the other day and me and my friend pulled faces at sarah earnshaw and it made her giggle, we asked her at the stage door if she saw us and she said yes that was very naughty of you and then laughed lol xx
@halloween1985 Actually, I am an actor and yes it is hard to pin-point the person, but due to the fact @mischadee was right behind the orchastra the lighting woiuld have caused it to be really easy to pin point them. Sorry to tell you, but when there that close you can see them, because you have to be able to see the orchrestra leader to see if they are going slower than normal.
@halloween1985 The actors cna most definitely see front row at wicked. The lights are too far away for them to be so blinded that they can't see the first fron rows. In shows i have been in the lights have been very close and you can still see the first 3 - 4 rows and apart from the lights above the stage the ones in front are attached to the dress circle and sides of the theatre. And i was sitting front row dead centre on sarah earnshaws last show in london and i...
@halloween1985 Actually, if the person is close, it can be easy to pinpoint them. From this camera view, it seems that s/he was pretty close to the stage.
@Thenameisjim94 It's not smoke, it's dry ice mixed with water so they don't choke lol. They go through like 500 tonnes a week or something insane like that lol i saw it on a backstage tour of wicked london x
After being on the wicked stage in san francisco...it became clear how easy it is for actors to spot a camera....I was suprised how close even the rear balcony seemed.
I have no favourite Elphaba, since they're all different with their voices and the way they potray the character, but Kerry Ellis is definitely up there.
its almost like she was shaking her head at you in dissaproval at 2.14 but i love that she just laughed about it... she was really sweet and down to earth when i met her so im not surprised

better than the original recording with Idina. Kerry really shows how at 1 moment, Elphaba is gentle, then Wicked. she shows that kinda better than Idina. YAY ^^
Two things I love about her performance: how clear her voice is, and her spell-casting arms at the beginning. I don't know why, it just looks freakin' awesome.
She's awesome!!!!

rofl, probably not the best idea to be filming right behind the conductor's head yes? singers do look at the conductor's direction you know ;)

This is my absolute favorite version of "No Good Deed". It's so haunting and full of emotion. Gives me the shivers whenever I hear it. <3

wow amazing recording, any other clips? I'd love to see defying gravity from your view!

better than the original recording with Idina.
