The only blame is on Saddam himself. He had to allow UN inspectors as part of UNSCR 687 to access to his WMDs program following a ceasefire signed to stop hostilities in the 1991 Gulf War and he kept on booting them out. Regardless of whether he had WMDs or not, it's about upholding 17 UNSCRs that Saddam made. WMDs wasn't the MAIN reason that we went in, it's about upholding UNSCR 687. It's too bad though we should have taken him out in Baghdad in 1991 and it would spare us a lot of trouble.

Iran and Iraq fought for 8 straight years from 80-88 with full military strngth. 1,000,000 Iranians died with 100,000 by Chemical weapons. Iraq lost between 250,000-500,000. Iraqi Military is devastated after 1st Gulf War so Iraq has little or no protection against Iran who is at full strength. If you were Saddam Hussein, you bet your ass you would say you had stockpiles of weapons you had already used on them once to keep them at bay.

Even though we all disagree on what the original reasons for the Iraq war were, Saddam killed nearly 500,000 Iraqi's during his time in power. Some in terribly brutal ways. Like putting them in a wood chipper FEET FIRST.
