I bought my first record player second hand when I was 13 yrs of age ...it came with 40 records and I purchased it from a elderly lady I knew..I payed 20$ for it one of the albums That came with the 40 records was Gene Pitney's greatest hits ..that was in 1963.. I stillI still have the album and the other 39 also My records have gone into the new age and transformed onto cd's courtesy of a friend..I since then have discovered a device I can plug into my cigarette lighter and take them with me
The music of my youth takes on a whole new beautiful view, seeing and hearing it though the teachings of A Course in Miracles. Love my Life Away...absolutely!
i have heard alot of gene Pitney tributes...and nothings better than listening to Gene...sorry dont mean to offend anybody...but you know who you are and, need to go back to studing the mans style.....or stay at home...this guy here cant be copied!!!
I read that Gene is playing all the instruments and singing all the background vocals as this was supposed to be a 'demo' but was released as a single. Great job he did!
Gene was a great talent-Singer, song writer, producer. Never forgot his roots in the Nutmeg state. Had great pipes his entire life. Even sang DooWop in the 50's. Just an immense talent.
@cafe9802 I agree it's a chart topper, but according to the stats given by the sender it barely made it inside the top 40. What was stopping it from going top 10, that much one would expect from a song of this calibur. I suppose crying by roy orbison took gene's place on the overall rankings and that's a blooming pity. crying, a chart topper and yet. lovin' ones life away barely got a rating..how negative on behalf of the music industry!!!!
@Ezdduf4kuZ I always considered him the best but considering the times, he had tons of competition....today I think he would swept all before him...Frankly there aren't many in his range of talent and voice.....Imagine someone today that could buck up aganist Orbison and make a run....its no competition but I am still finding Pitney songs I haven't heard and now I see he did many songs in German and Italian....nice large body of work includes songs he wrote for others....he is still great
Gene's voice was one of the most recognizable from the 1960's. I've watched one of his live performances, I think from the late-90's, here on You Tube. Even in his later years, Gene's voice hadn't changed noticeably. Just a remarkable entertainer!
Thanks for posting cool sound and great words. Gene was awesome.Cheers, Shari

@LuccaBB1 He has an Ango-Saxon name, but he looks Sicilian. What is with that? A junior college classmate of mine went on a date with him.
