They really screwed the KLINGONS! In Errand of Mercy; low level Klingon warrior tells his Superior; does not know how the Starfeet Officers "disappered"; the Superior tells his Commanding Officer & states 2 him "I SWEAR"! When would a Commanding Officer take the word of a lower rank? Not in any Military Forces on Earth! Remember a 'Nation's' Military is reflective of the "civilian population". I think the Klingons believed in 'honestly' but on 1st Contact--the aliens were not honest!
@mrtrek64 Klingons seem to represent Vikings/barbarians to me. I do agree with you on the Romulans representing Ancient Rome. That's why they and the Klingons hate each other, it paralells how Barbarians and Romans felt about each other.
The Federation represents the United States, the Ferengi represent crooked capitalists and the Cardassians represent the Chinese (both love order and oppress religious peoples).
The klingons are like the Japanese military of World War 2, who believe in the code of honor Bushido The way of the warrior for so purpose military conquest!
Can just get Galciv2, then get the Star Trek mod for it, which I have... Not only is it better than BOTF, its quite possibly best Star Trek game around, and its a mod!
Contrary to popular belief, the Klingons do not, in actually, necessarily believe that a military solution to a problem is the first or best solution... Granted they are VERY milistratic, but really, the 'do what needs to be done Klingons' in TOS best reflect why they do what they do...
This is what I mean. The Klingons we know today, are psycotic crack babies, of those Mutant Klingons. They somehow managed to blend in the warrior traditions like honor , with conquest blood lust. (which was probably the cause of the decline of the Empire. (ie Gowron like Klingons), as opposed to Martok like integrity. This is mentioned on IKS Gorkon (a series of books).
i tend to agree, unfortuantelly this was some sort of production-decision made during the TNG timeline! before that klingons were always more like samurai ... honor, duty & tradition were important, but not the only thing in their life, like in all societies, and sometime at the end of TNG / beginning of DS9 they redesigned them into this mindless "all-about-war-&-death" race, which as you pointed out is unsustainable :( i liked my klingons th way they were like in ST1/3/6
@bluerisk It wasn't as much the warrior society that destroyed sparta, it worked fine (although implying it on new conquered lands did fail) it was there stubornness to never retreat, even when retreat was the most sound tactical move to do. This destroyed there once great armies , which in terms destroyed there ability to keep there serves under supression. And considering alot of greek states adepted the agoga, one can hardly argue that sparta couldn't excist long when others adept your ways.
Sounds like they're describing Japan.

This advice stuck. Argue issues, not personalities. Even if the personality is different they all want to survive for the same reason.

what game is this?
Bird1612 1 year ago
@Bird1612 Star Trek - Birth of the Federation, a Turn Strategy game for PC made in 1999 (or 2000, don't remember). Excellent game.

Klingons are like humans, but more aggressive!
Ferengi are like humans, but greedier!
Romulans are like humans, but sneakier!
Cardassians are like humans, but more iron-fisted!
LordBifford 1 year ago
@LordBifford I agree -- to a point.
Klingons are like the Japanese of yesteryear;
The Ferengi are an amalgam of the West;
Romulans are like the People's Republic of China;
Cardassians are clearly Germans;
UFP is clearly the United States by way of the EU (ugh);
The Borg are an amalgam of Commies, in my mind;
And Voyager's Kazon really reminded me of the Taliban or al Qaeda.

Ferengi represent---well I think we both know without me spelling it out. LOL
Romulans represent ancient Rome in every way. Twin planets-Senate-Praetor
An the Klingons no doubt represented The Samuri.

Yeah, the voice actor kinda stuttered the 'b' so it's 'bbrreathe!'

Well, ok, it's still more understandable than the Ferengi opening (I'm no english native-speaker). ^^

I love their "Bird of Prey"-vessels, but as race they're actually to stupid to exist.
Just like these Hirogens.
You can't exist as warrior society => Sparta.
(And the Spartans could only exist - for a limited time - because of their serfs)
bluerisk 4 years ago 13
They wern't always a pure warrior culture, they used to be more balanced.
vegeta002 3 years ago
Actually the Klingons suffered from mutations, the Klingons we know today, are actually, genetically enhanced Klingons.
Sambucacat 2 years ago
I'm talking about their culture, not the augment virus. They weren't always focused completely on war.

@bluerisk Klingons also have serfs: the various vassal states inside the Klingon Empire.
inamerica55585 1 year ago
@bluerisk The Spartans existed for 900 years. Why do you not know your history?
America is falling apart after 200 years.
Sparta was at Troy, and then 500 years later at the Pass of Thermopylae. Plus they lived before and after both of these events.
But Klingons are too dumb to live. They are not as together as old school Europeans ie (Greeks)

Apparantly you never saw TOS, where they weren't above terrorizing innocent star bases, and starting brawls in bars just because they could.

What do you think would happen to a world once it's conquered by Klingons?
They become their subjects.
Not everyone in the Klingon *Empire* is a Klingon. Or a warrior.
