Only thing i dont like about the SAS Recruiting, is a bloke can finnish the 9 day selection course and then be told he's not wanted, Should be told before the course is even started and given the opportunity to either do it any way or leave. Pretty hard pill to swollow if it happens after 9 days of pain.
@ebbett21 They look at him during the course and then tell him he's not wanted due to that. They can also finish the 9 month training cycle after selection(pretty much SAS basic training) and then be told they didn't interact well enough with their peers.
People wonder why our special forces are so good.
Well for starters, our training methods are studied from every other special forces around the the globe. We have a small force so every man is watched and trained carefully. We have time, we aren't needed on the battlefield ASAP so people arn't rushed. We don't brag or focus on saying how good we are. (this excepted :P) And we dont piss around with fancy equipment that will probably break on the job. So yeah, my reasons why we're half decent (:

Goodmorning, I've just watch this video. As a vehicle for recruitment into the NZ SAS it is exactly what is required. Highlighting all the dynamic aspects of SF activity, and clearly stirring the adrenalin. Saying that it does not show the more unpleasant apsects, such as the aches and strains of getting through selection to reap the rewards of service, the high attritution rate that contributes to psychological grind of getting through selection etc etc, Nonetheless Well Done !
@brianlud Thats bullshit cuz cos ive tried out for SASR twice and made it to the end twice, and the last 2 years ive always been the smallest weighing in at around 70kg and by the end im down to 58, the 6ft tall 140lb plus blokes kill the weights sessions but when it comes to endurance and mental toughness us lil blokes smash them all over the park, last year it was 6 other blokes and myself at the end and we all weighed about 58 so there were no big blokes left, lacked the mental capacity
Although I've made it twice theyve told me I lack team spirit, so thats something i got another year to work on...and i didnt have to wait 3 years it took 18 months from my recruitment days before i applied for SAS panel selection and did all that aptitude BS again but its a good experience and i recommend anyone with the balls and fitness to go for it...yu dont have to be an olympic athlete or a NASA scientist to make it, self belief thats all and use all negativity to motivate you

UK SAS is renound as being the best (or one of the best) special forces unit in the world. As for spetsnaz, i've heard that the russians tried to create a large special forces unit about 10 times the size of the UK one, but in doing so it meant that the special forces soldiers weren't as highly trained as those in the UK SAS

@MikhailTernovyy Sorry to but in on the converstion. All missions carried out by the SAS consist of a higher standard to that of the regular soldier. In the SAS, the main roles are Counter Terrorism, bodyguarding and reconnaissance. If you pass selection, you will be in a unit of the SAS that will either specialize in air insertion, water insertion or land insertion. The different Sabre squadrons will rotate so for a couple of years you'll be doing recon and then change to counter terrorism.
That is bullshit and you know it. The SAS had no hand in that operation. The US told nobody about this, not even it's closest friends like the UK. The CIA planned this along with JSOC. I know the SAS could have done that operation as well, but they didn't.
Also, your reference to Linda Norgrove's death is baseless. The SAS has lost hostages as well. Remember Prince's Gate (the one who died during the assault, not the other guy)? This isn't James Bond, EVERYONE has accidents.

I got mad respect for the SAS, but your wrong on some of what your saying. By the way, multiple nations were hunting Bin Laden, and who killed him? US Navy SEALs. The Brits were never able to do that, and they were hunting him too. But still, the SAS is pretty hardcore.
@sniperboi96 the decision to pull the trigger on bin laden had nothing to do with the seals or sas cats. seal team 6 and sbs are both as hardcore as each other; I seriously doubt either could be better when the selection process to both are equally as tough. at the end of the day though, they are both just regiments of light infantry.

The sas are human males with families, the Government orders the army to select the finest men to train. So they can go prepared over to other countries and do what is expected of them. The thing about that is that this whole idea of sending these men over seas, comes from a Government western society and system, that holds no bearing for the families left behind. Yes it is the mens choice but only because they or anybody is able to access signing up.

@brianlud Thats bullshit cuz cos ive tried out for SASR twice and made it to the end twice, and the last 2 years ive always been the smallest weighing in at around 70kg and by the end im down to 58, the 6ft tall 140lb plus blokes kill the weights sessions but when it comes to endurance and mental toughness us lil blokes smash them all over the park, last year it was 6 other blokes and myself at the end and we all weighed about 58 so there were no big blokes left, lacked the mental capacity

Although I've made it twice theyve told me I lack team spirit, so thats something i got another year to work on...and i didnt have to wait 3 years it took 18 months from my recruitment days before i applied for SAS panel selection and did all that aptitude BS again but its a good experience and i recommend anyone with the balls and fitness to go for it...yu dont have to be an olympic athlete or a NASA scientist to make it, self belief thats all and use all negativity to motivate you

@MikhailTernovyy You probably need to be an NZ citizen (which means moving there and living there with job etc. for about 5 years). UK SAS is renound as being the best (or one of the best) special forces unit in the world. As for spetsnaz, i've heard that the russians tried to create a large special forces unit about 10 times the size of the UK one, but in doing so it meant that the special forces soldiers weren't as highly trained as those in the UK SAS

@MikhailTernovyy Sorry to but in on the converstion. All missions carried out by the SAS consist of a higher standard to that of the regular soldier. In the SAS, the main roles are Counter Terrorism, bodyguarding and reconnaissance. If you pass selection, you will be in a unit of the SAS that will either specialize in air insertion, water insertion or land insertion. The different Sabre squadrons will rotate so for a couple of years you'll be doing recon and then change to counter terrorism.

That is bullshit and you know it. The SAS had no hand in that operation. The US told nobody about this, not even it's closest friends like the UK. The CIA planned this along with JSOC. I know the SAS could have done that operation as well, but they didn't.
Also, your reference to Linda Norgrove's death is baseless. The SAS has lost hostages as well. Remember Prince's Gate (the one who died during the assault, not the other guy)? This isn't James Bond, EVERYONE has accidents.

I got mad respect for the SAS, but your wrong on some of what your saying. By the way, multiple nations were hunting Bin Laden, and who killed him? US Navy SEALs. The Brits were never able to do that, and they were hunting him too. But still, the SAS is pretty hardcore.

They are only basic SF like SEALs or Army SF who all rate as Tier Two. The sas are human males with families, the Government orders the army to select the finest men to train. So they can go prepared over to other countries and do what is expected of them. The thing about that is that this whole idea of sending these men over seas, comes from a Government western society and system, that holds no bearing for the families left behind. Yes it is the mens choice but only because they or anybody is able to access signing up.
