How did the fuel get to the carb?... I thought the carb was gravity fed.

suction from the carb, there is also check valve in the tank to prevent the gas from running back into the tank.

my briggs wm needs a new crank and coil then she should run agian. whats the thing on the other side of the engine it has something to do with oil? mine dont got one
The small canister is the crankcase breather. If the boss on your engine is solid it breathed through the valve chamber.
