there is this horse that i ride, Lacy, and she is TERRIFIED of the girth and each time we put the girth on we give her a mint right before we put it on and she is getting really good with it when my riding instructor tightens the girth she used to skid to the side and rear now she just flinches
We just bought a 9y/o gelding who is terrified of being tied off. (past owners tied him to post and he fell and was choking)We've been told he's had 160 hours of training to change this and supposedly can't "be fixed". He is being delivered to us in a few days so I don't know how he reacts when you do tie him off. My parents don't see this as a big problem but I do he is extremely well behaved with everything else. Any tips on how to make him feel comfortable again??
@Zallein093 I would make sure he`s used to a lead line, then drop part of the line over a fence, then eventually pull one end through a tie-ring, and slowly work up to being tied. Take it slow, no rush, and avoid getting tense yourself. Hope that helped...
@heidimule : based on what? Lots of people said the world was flat and lots of people believed them, but the statement was not based on any facts just beliefs. I find that people that don't think you should tie a horse when sacking are doing it wrong and scaring the horse and making the horse blow up so they want to blame it on the horse was tied up, not true, horses blow and get hurt when people do it wrong, has nothing to do with being tied or not.
Thanks for the sacking out vid's. I'm a stupid bi-ped, so maybe you can help me really get the point of it all. Are you trying to teach the horse to bypass the instinct to bolt and run, and to just stand and take whatever comes (within horse reason); that it is ok to be scared, but be scared and stand still? Tanner has obviously seen bags before and he is still tense. So repetion is also important - many different objects, many times and presented correctly?

I really like your videos. I find that you´re a good and patient trainer.
I use your "carrot training" and my horse loves them. I hope you keep posting good tips as always.
Greeting from Chile.
