I never understood why No Substance was so poorly received. I honestly wonder if I'm hearing the same album as everyone else because I really do think it's one of their best. Unquestionably in their top 5.
No Substance was extremely under rated. We all know it. The title track itself, "No Substance" was an awsome song too. Along with "The Biggest Killer In American History." They perform "Hippy Killers" quite often, but it's just not enough.
I completely disagree. I personally love this record as well as New America. I don't like how they just completely forgot about them. Now I'm not saying they need to play heavy amounts of both albums, but one or two every now and then would be nice.
The fact that songs like Hear it, Shades of Truth, In So Many Ways, New America, Don't Sell me Short, and You've Got a Chance aren't staples in Bad Religion setlists is a fuckin' tragedy. I'd like to hear more obscure stuff like Strange Denial and The Same Person too. The Gray Race even gets neglected these days. Every show they play should include Cease. Apparently if they did it without Brett it wasn't punk enough to keep around.
I don't know if they should be staples but they should use them for sure. Especially since BR is famous for switching up their setlists. Outside of the the 6 or 7 staples, they really do a nice job of keeping fresh setlists!
Didn't know there was a pro shoot for this show. Also veeery nice to see them play a song off No Substance(Sowing The Seeds is way underrated, with 3 guitars and a nice touch by Brooks.
love this song :P

How in the world have they ever played it any other way?
Your statment confuses me.
@ThsDustyspears
No substance was their farewell album for me.
I'd rather not witness their greatness fade.
