@chatochido music should never be confined to one type of singer or style. one thing that makes music so amazing is that people can take a great song and sing it in a way that fits them.
@Geekella haha this is forgivable because you were so young but in all honesty no. That's not one of the "amazing" things about music. As a performer you have to educate yourselves on which composers it is acceptable to "sing it in a way that fits them" and which composers it is not. This is an example of when it is not. If you were singing "Die Forelle" by Schubert, then you could get away with singing it as a girl and in a different key. Not this. Like I said though, you were young. NBD. =)
@jrjorgensen2519 eww no. no matter how "educated" your comment sounds, you can't convince me that my opinion is "wrong", since it is impossible for an opinion to be incorrect. I appreciate that you wrote this comment as nicely as possible but i wholeheartedly disagree with you. if you don't want to hear this song sung by a girl, then by all means don't listen to a girl sing it. if a female enjoys singing it, let her. others have enjoyed it, meaning your opinion is exactly that: an opinion
@Geekella Actually, my opinion doesn't matter at all here. My comment wasn't based on my opinion, Puccini composed this song with the intent of it being sung by a male and we do not have the artistic freedom to change that. Fact, not opinion. I was trying to be nice, yes, but at the same time honest. There are areas in life when things have room for an opinion, and there are areas where things need to be pretty black and white; this is the latter. Sorry.
@jrjorgensen2519 right. Puccini wrote it for tenor voices. i never once state otherwise. however, what i did state is that the amazing thing about music is we can take someone else's work and do what we want with it. that's the point of covering things. this was four years ago when i recorded this, simply wanting to sing my little heart out to a song i fell in love with, not caring if Puccini himself would rise from the grave to say "this song is for tenors". i wanted to sing it and so i did.
@jrjorgensen2519 but you didn't do anything to preserve art. O_o art does that on its own. instead, you came off more as trying to stifle art, or rather the exploration of art. art branches off in to many things. please don't box it
as i'm sure you know if you've been studying in college, my comment here is phrasing and note sustaining, particularly when it comes to Puccini. Romantic music is all about the slow, full sound. Hope that helped, although I'm sure you knew that already. :)
@Apefrivola that was nearly three years ago when this video was recorded. since then, i have been a vocal major at college and have been taking a class on Italian diction so i have quite improved :)
This is sung with only a tiny ounce of emotion, whereas it should be sung as a self-proclaimed "Belter"! It was good, I hope you have progressed in your singing! 4/5
u sound good i know that u must sound a lot better. but why why why why everyone wants to sing Nessun Dorma and not any other aria like Donna non vidi mai or another aria but no everyone wants to sing Nessun Dorma
lol. the poster is cool and all but i dont like the da vinci code that much. like, it was a good movie but i'm not crazy about it. my friend, who worked at the theatre, gave it to me so i put it up in honor of him haha
anyway, my camera has a built-in mic. i did not have to use a separate one
One, great job. This piece is hell on the range. I commend you for trying and getting most of the song correct. I noticed few problems. I am glad that you are continuing your vocal training. There is a lack of good sopranos these days. Caccini has some arias that i would suggest and feel that with your now 2yrs, would sit well in your voice. Also look at Léo Delibes Lakmé and the Nannetta/Fenton duet from Verdi's Falstaff.
You are trying so hard to get the tone right, and you are almost there, just practice a bit more and once you are comfortable with the song, the next step is add feeling to it, because arias are supposed to have a dramatic feel to them, so go practice more and let people cry with your amazing voice.
i posted this video 2 years ago. and since then, i have had vocal training in college so my tone and everything has improved immensely. i still have things i need to work on but yea.
You have potential. Many can hit the notes perfectly, and have no emotion. You agree, this video was two (2) years ago. With refinement, you will be very good. The emotion, Geekella, got me crying. I mean Pavarotti level. I know when it sounds. Especially the emotion you inflect.
What a lovely sweet clean voice are you intending to use it professionally? You have good pitch too and so brave to do it a capella!!!! Anyone - well probably not just anyone - can make this sound okay with a good orchestral backing.
Awesome! I love this aria and you sang it very nicely... Yes, some words were mispronounced, but it doesn't mind. Congratulations, your version was far better than many versions I've heard lately!!!
Last, who says you have to do it a capella? The score playing just loud enough for you to hear, gives you the accompaniment that cadences your breathing, no rushing to or through a note. Nessun Dorma is never performed a capella anyway-except for bitches like 'singspieler'-god, she pisses me off. 'Spieler'? What is it with germans? Mario Lanza was destroyed by a german director, who criticized the very thing that made Mario great -his 'overly impassioned' singing. Yeah. So Megan, shut'er out..
Now, for CONSTRUCTIVE criticism; First-very brave and tough to do - performing to your camcorder. That's a cold audience, no feedback whatsoever. To get the same great notes you know you did just before turning on the camera, try each one of these mental approaches; See the camera as someone you have strong feelings about, love-hate works great for me.
Or -imagine you in a movie, don't look at the camera AT ALL -it's not there. You're alone.
Sweetie, you sound wonderful. Don't even bother RESPONDING to idiots like 'singspieler' -who say things like "no point in singing opera". I say she's an idiot, because she then follows up that intentionally spirit crushing jibe with admitting(if she's telling the truth) that she is a university teacher. Yikes. Now there's a teacher who should be FIRED. Imagine the number of young singers she has crushed, in class, or after -in hallways with just a few nasty words. Ignore her.
Don't worry about the pronounciation. It's one of the best I've heard, considering...
Apart from that and the microphone, I think it was nice. Go on with the good work with the diaphragm (or septum, I don't know exactly what's the English for that...). That's all you need.
you don't have to agree. voice is pinched, and no sense of musical line. as a professional singer and university teacher i have every right to comment
since when did i tell you that you dont have the right to comment? i didn't. my voice is not that pinched here it just, at that point, did not develop the complete sound it needs for this song. and after being trained now, my voice has improved. and as for sense of musical line... you're entitled to your opinion and all but to say that there is no musical line is just being too picky. i must have been 17 here and hardly any 17 year olds can sing like a trained 30 year old singer.
"no point in singing opera" wow that's the kinda thing a teacher needs to be telling their students. instead of encouraging them and telling them methods that can improve them, lets dog them and attempt to pull down their spirits by telling them they cant sing this. the kind of criticism i look for by posting my stuff on youtube is the kind that will actually help me improve.
a "professional singer and university teacher" should know that. as for me, i made all state choir, numerous honor choirs in top ranks, got considered for the top choir in my freshman year of college (which is rare for a freshman), impressed my theatre department in such a way that i gained a lead role in our Christmas musical. i have gotten numerous superiors in solo singing and group singing as well as recieving "most outstanding juniot" and "most outstanding musician" in my high school choir
because my choir director encouraged me instead of bringing me down, he helped me to improve. and in case you didn't know, that's what a teacher is supposed to do
For the last high note if you open you mouth more vertically and open a little room in the corner of both sides of your mouth there should be more space required for high pitch sounds and the note will sound better as your muscle also pressures with more intensity the air (I don't know the name of the muscle in English, but its located near your venter)
for opera in general, i've always been into it. i think i first got interested in opera when i was really little watching Sleeping Beauty. ya know the scene where she's walking in the forest singing operatic melodies? so pretty. and ever since i was little i would imitate it. i prolly sounded really bad because i used to be badly tone-deaf lol. but it was still fun to imitate it lol.
i see a bright future! u did quite well there. on a bit more critical note, needs a bit more legato and vibrato. but that will come with time and effort. good job
Hey i love this song, nessun dorma is a wonderful song. i think you need a little work not on your voice but on technique, like the breathing thing, don't worry i am in the same boat. i take voice lessons and need help as well. As far as the breathing goes an easy way for me is to just make my stomach bigger, if when you breathe your stomach gets bigger you are breathing right. i cant wait to hear your other songs. Oh by the way I AM NOT questioning your ability in any way, just trying to help.
when you breathe, don't raise your shoulders; its incorrect in singing and it gives you minimal breath. instead, make sure you expand your rib cage when you inhale, and try to keep it expanded as much as possible. the higher notes should be easy then.
i suggest taking private voice lessons in order to be your best possible; i learned more in half an hour of my first lesson than in 14 years of choir!
lol funny you should say that cus my choir teacher is ALWAYS telling me to stop raising my shoulders and breathe from the diaphram. i've tried it but it's really hard for me. i'ma work on it some more. thank you :}
@OperaSpider The answer ur looking for is Intercostal Diphramic Breathing, the key and most important ingredient from being average (eg:Boil,Potts Etc) or to becoming a Pav,Corelli,Gigli. To learn and understand takes hrs of prac and years to conquer but is the diff between not being able to sing at 50 and powering ur way thru till ur 80.It is the only way to sing freely without any downward pressure on ur vocal chords, meaning chords cannot improve but the aparartis around thm becomes key/focus...
@OperaSpider Oh to begin with never invest ur own time and money into teachers tht cannot sing the pieces they instruct others to and always make sure they've had significant experience in the profession!!!!
what the....? how can someone not sing with their original voice anyway? if i sing, it's with the only one i got. and about the high notes....they're part of the song....so therefore one should sing them...
you clearly have the appropriate space in your head and you're doing a marvelous job of linking it with sparkling sound... I'm jealous! I would suggest working lots of energy into your voice, your sound, your mind, your body... read the english translation if you have it, watch the opera itself if you have it and really understand the passion that just floods this song. with more energy, you have this song no problem. just enjoy it, and the joy you feel will be apparent to all who hear you sing.
Lovely voice, but I believe you should give some study more of a mezzo-quality song, such as O Mio Babino Caro or perhaps some of Cherubino's arias from Le Nozze Di Figaro. I have a sneaking suspicion that there is a wonderful lowered register in there.
Also, a little bit more vowel and pasagio work and you will be golden.
Keep at the training girl, you have an instrument, but cultivate that lower register with song and the higher with Pasagio, I do not want too offend, but the high notes, while definitely present, are still a little shrill. Scales and vowels, and I hope too hear more.
Brava! wonderful i thought it sounded great! even though you made a few mistakes thats ok, your voice is lovey and singing A capella is very difficult!
Blessings on ALL of you for being so constructive with this talented and still quite vulnerable young woman! And blessings on YOU, Megan, for the courage both to put yourself out there and to be clear about what you need: these will take you far; cultivate them well.
i dont know how old you are, but keep training or start if you havent already. you have potential and its up to you to see how far it takes you.
watch how you come into words...keep the tone even (no sliding in!) learn and practive breathing, and open the mouth and throat so that it feels almost like you need to yawn. you may already know these things, and if so keep it up. singing opera is physical as well as mental. good job!
Sense the range of Calaf's emtions...Fear of Near death if you fail to solve her 3 riddles, now the possibility of receiving her love...to the final VINCERO!! the realization that Yes you are getting your true love and be joined forever in bliss... it's Very emotionally charged. Try viewing the '98 3 Tenors concert from Paris, perhaps Pavarottis most emotional version.. also the 94 3 Tenors concert may be his most beautiful version. Good luck God bless.. and keep it up you are GREAT!
the city sings..."Il nome suo nessun sapra..E`noi dovrem ahime morir, morir.."and what his name is None shall know, and all of us alas, shall die, shall die..." Hearing this, Pr.Calaf's heart is filled with Joy! No one can figure out his REAL name. he'll get to marry Princess Turandot.. Dilegua Notte.....al alba Vincero Vincero!!! VINCERO!!!!!! "Oh night depart...ye stars...grow pale... at daybreak I shall win (her heart and hand in marriage) I shall Win.. I SHALL WIN!!
he sings.. Ma'il mio Mistero E'Chiuso..... "Within my heart my secret(my name) lies, and what my name is none shall know no no till on thy heart i confess, as soon as morning light shall dawn. Then sahll my kisses break the silence.. that makes thee Mine.
Are you familiar with the story of the aria A prince can wed the princess of peking,IF he can solve the riddles she lays before him... if not he dies. He solves them...but gives her a riddle to solve as well.. if she solves... she doesn't have to marry him. Through the night the city is trying to solve this puzzle...The Prince's actual name...
Bravissimo! I'm a trained tenor in love with this beautiful work. I own 57 recordings of it, by 19 different artists. Sarah Brightman is the only other woman i have heard sing it. You are stunning. I will go along with my other colleagues here and say a bit more..emotion. Watch Pavarotti sing it... his eyes are on FIRE...
Awesome job! Heh... I wouldnt know one way or the other on the pronoucation.. but your on key perfect save for a few spots where you waver a little Keep this up, you have a great voice, great range.. and clarity on the high notes. You could use a little better control here and there.. but still wow. Do you take voice lessons?
Sorry to add my two cents, but jrjorgenson. You just 'got burned'. Art is self perpetuating. If it werent then it isnt 'Art'. I enjoyed your rendition :) If you havent already, you should make a current recording ^_^

That's not true. She can certainly sing in tune, and with some proper instruction she could be great.

Hi I just listed to your nessun dorma, I loved it. I have been wanting to post my own version but I have been to shy. You did a great job.
vtube007 4 years ago

OperaSpider 4 years ago 3
lol funny you should say that cus my choir teacher is ALWAYS telling me to stop raising my shoulders and breathe from the diaphram. i've tried it but it's really hard for me. i'ma work on it some more. thank you :}
Geekella 4 years ago
@OperaSpider The answer ur looking for is Intercostal Diphramic Breathing, the key and most important ingredient from being average (eg:Boil,Potts Etc) or to becoming a Pav,Corelli,Gigli. To learn and understand takes hrs of prac and years to conquer but is the diff between not being able to sing at 50 and powering ur way thru till ur 80.It is the only way to sing freely without any downward pressure on ur vocal chords, meaning chords cannot improve but the aparartis around thm becomes key/focus...
mkcareer 1 year ago
@OperaSpider Oh to begin with never invest ur own time and money into teachers tht cannot sing the pieces they instruct others to and always make sure they've had significant experience in the profession!!!!
And ignore the screen name, not mine.

When you sing, keep your original voice, and do not sing with high notes. I think you sing good, but need lots practice.
kristos1991 4 years ago
what the....? how can someone not sing with their original voice anyway? if i sing, it's with the only one i got. and about the high notes....they're part of the song....so therefore one should sing them...
Geekella 4 years ago
someone CAN sing without theire original song...its like adult actors making lil kids voice for cartoons...or sumthin like that O.o
xStryfe 4 years ago
u said "original song"....i was talking about voice. and i'm not going to sing with a voice that is not mine
Geekella 4 years ago
actually I like yours better than sarah brightman! Your voice is with ease and to me she forces hers a bit:)
MusashiTzu 4 years ago
fine but its supposed to be for a tenor:) and one with a dark timbre at that! why not try a soprano aria instead?
Still it was very good:)
MusashiTzu 4 years ago
have you ever heard sarah brightman sing this? a wonderful soprano. it's actually common to see sopranos do this song.

Liza27th06 4 years ago 2
you clearly have the appropriate space in your head and you're doing a marvelous job of linking it with sparkling sound... I'm jealous! I would suggest working lots of energy into your voice, your sound, your mind, your body... read the english translation if you have it, watch the opera itself if you have it and really understand the passion that just floods this song. with more energy, you have this song no problem. just enjoy it, and the joy you feel will be apparent to all who hear you sing.
nightingale328 4 years ago
Lovely voice, but I believe you should give some study more of a mezzo-quality song, such as O Mio Babino Caro or perhaps some of Cherubino's arias from Le Nozze Di Figaro. I have a sneaking suspicion that there is a wonderful lowered register in there.
Also, a little bit more vowel and pasagio work and you will be golden.
highflyingadored01 4 years ago 3
thank you :} actually your suspicion is right: i do have a low voice lol. my voice is good for soprano and alto. i love low songs as much as high
Geekella 4 years ago
Keep at the training girl, you have an instrument, but cultivate that lower register with song and the higher with Pasagio, I do not want too offend, but the high notes, while definitely present, are still a little shrill. Scales and vowels, and I hope too hear more.
highflyingadored01 4 years ago
Brava! wonderful i thought it sounded great! even though you made a few mistakes thats ok, your voice is lovey and singing A capella is very difficult!

i dont know how old you are, but keep training or start if you havent already. you have potential and its up to you to see how far it takes you.
watch how you come into words...keep the tone even (no sliding in!) learn and practive breathing, and open the mouth and throat so that it feels almost like you need to yawn. you may already know these things, and if so keep it up. singing opera is physical as well as mental. good job!
fystofnewyork 4 years ago
Your voice is unreal, just need to fine tune it, bravo you have great potential.

Good luck God bless.. and keep it up you are GREAT!
bigtube1975 4 years ago
the city sings..."Il nome suo nessun sapra..E`noi dovrem ahime morir, morir.."and what his name is None shall know, and all of us alas, shall die, shall die..." Hearing this, Pr.Calaf's heart is filled with Joy! I SHALL WIN!!
bigtube1975 4 years ago
he sings.. Ma'il mio Mistero E'Chiuso..... "Within my heart my secret(my name) lies, and what my name is none shall know no no till on thy heart i confess, as soon as morning light shall dawn. Then sahll my kisses break the silence.. that makes thee Mine.
bigtube1975 4 years ago
Are you familiar with the story of the aria A prince can wed the princess of peking,IF he can solve the riddles she lays before him... if not he dies. He solves them...but gives her a riddle to solve as well.. if she solves... she doesn't have to marry him. Through the night the city is trying to solve this puzzle...The Prince's actual name...
bigtube1975 4 years ago
Bravissimo! I'm a trained tenor in love with this beautiful work. I own 57 recordings of it, by 19 different artists. Sarah Brightman is the only other woman i have heard sing it. You are stunning. I will go along with my other colleagues here and say a bit more..emotion. Watch Pavarotti sing it... his eyes are on FIRE...
bigtube1975 4 years ago
Awesome job! Heh... I wouldnt know one way or the other on the pronoucation.. but your on key perfect save for a few spots where you waver a little Keep this up, you have a great voice, great range.. and clarity on the high notes. You could use a little better control here and there.. but still wow. Do you take voice lessons?
HawthornWitch 4 years ago
Excellent - you certainly have the vocal range. More emotion and hold on to the notes longer so I can enjoy them. Cheers and keep up the good work!
