  • I have seen growth in protected patches where the sun doesn't get a lot of penetration, but if they are out in the open I have yet to notice a growth in them.

  • I have morels growing in my back yard under a tree( wild). I have an excellent crop now(Thanksgiving) and will have another in April. If I let them grow more than 4-5 days, the heads fall off and they turn to mush. I need to pick them in 2-3 days. I think the maturity depends on where you are. I am in So CAlifornia.

  • LOL, obviously Morels do not reach full maturity in 24-48 hrs. You've proved it again George!

  • Hello VMH, I enjoyed your movie. I found it both educational and rewarding. I was wondering however though, where u live because of the dates, it seams that if we have simular inland latitudes mid to late may is best.

PS. if you can remember exactlly where a patch is you should try burying it with leaves. It will protect it from other hunters and they seem to develope much more quicklly, also you should probablly write down how many are under your pile.

  • Wild. Full maturity can take up to 3 weeks. I have the evidence. Black growth in particular can be slowed by colder temps. Extended ( warm) rain can expedite growth.

  • I have done similar test with absolutly NO measurable growth. Were these wild or ploted kit? wild Morels reach full maturity in 24-48 hours.
