My first Rush concert was in the Seattle Coliseum in early 1990. Thank you so much for this! And this song applies to today as much (if not even more) as it did when it was written!
why is it that they barely support this album? its great, same thing with test for echo, caress of steel, and they almost never perform stuff from fly by night anymore
I love Presto the Album, it was so much better than Hold Your Fire which seemed a bit soulless. The song Presto had more of a magical sound and a great acoutic guitar part, something Rush had gotten away from oin the 80s.
Presto for me is my favorite Rush album. Like what frechchefkyle said, it's a powerful album. I like every Rush album in their own way, but this one particularly speaks out to me. Pretty much everyone song is just amazing. I think the weakest song on there is "Anagram," but that is not necessarily a bad song. Just so many songs that still apply to today's world. And I went to see them in Columbus and "Presto" was magical live! This tour surpassed Snakes and Arrows!
My 3rd favorite Rush album, only defeated by Counterparts (2nd) and GUP (1). Presto is just a wonderful album. I do not know why it is underrated and it's just a shame that it is. Wonderful song's like this one, "The Pass", "Show Don't Tell" and the alarmist "Red Tide" are my four favorites. I wish they performed "Red Tide" on this tour.
to be honest presto is one of my favorite albums of all time from any band. so so powerful. when I need a pick me up or just want to go back in time I put on the album and rock out.
The Song Presto was never performed live as of yet. Perhaps The Time Machine Tour this summer(2010) will change that. I hope. It's my favorite song off Presto
By far my favorite Rush album of all time next to Power Windows. Both brilliant albums and very difficult material to perform live because of all the synthesizer tracks. Geddy's Wal bass was a staple of their sound on both albums. Alex's sound is powerful and has that crisp clean electric tone.
Presto is great. I love the bass tone in it, and in this gig! Presto has so many great songs and a fair amount of good songs; Show Don´t Tell, Chain Lightning, The Pass(my favourite Rush song btw), this, Superconductor, Red Tide and Available Light. At least as far as I remember.
It's a shame that Presto gets kinda lost in the mix of Rush history. It's one of my top 5 Rush albums. Great album, great tour...and pulled off some really complicated songs live (Scars, this one, etc.) Excellent posting...if this is available as a bootleg, I MUST get it.
Your are absolutely correct...I never have liked Show Don't Tell, which is probably why I don't listen to it more...but it has created more meaning over the years - I've learned to appreciate it more.
@xwingt65 This comment needs MANY MANY more thumbs up. This (and Test for Echo) do not get enough love. Presto is the greatest Rush of all the time. Sadly, their fourth era (Presto > RTB > CP >TFE) does not get enough love, at least not as much as the period from 2112 to Moving Pictures.
Since the album sold worse than the band hoped, they didn't play as many songs from it. "Chain Lightning", "Presto", and "Red Tide", which are clearly meant to be played live, didn't make the cut. Don't know why "Scars" did though...
@RollTheFemers While this song is a guilty pleasure, there is nothing cool at all about it. It does not deserve to be called underrated! Lessons and Tears are underrated RUSH songs.
I read a long time ago that they tried rehearsing'Presto' before that tour started, but Alex had trouble switching smoothly between the acoustic and electric parts.
@rossboss1 My first RUSH concert was from this tour in Hartford, CT, and I was sooo surprised they didn't play Presto, especially considering it's the title track for the disc. The whole CD is really underrated. Can't say how excited I was to get to see them perform it live twice in Florida for Time machine. Really hoping they dust off something from TFE for the CA tour. Maybe Half the World or Driven
Rollthefemers, thanks for the information. It's a shame they left The Pass off their R30 dvd, 'cause it would have been a full circle, from Finding My Way to Earthshine, even playing a bit from Bastille Day.
Wow! I love this tune. Thanks for posting. Presto is such a great album, and this one is my favorite off of it. I still don't understand why they didn't play one single tune from it at the R30 DVD.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
And yet they give us 9 songs of Snakes & Arrows shit to suffer through this tour. I would gladly take The Pass, Available Light, Presto, and Chain Lightning in one evening than all of the S&A songs.
Geddy Lee has commented that it's not one of the band's favorites, and aside from "The Pass," that he(they?) felt the songwriting wasn't their best stuff. I don't happen to agree with him at all--I feel it's their best, mainly *because* of the songwriting.
My first Rush concert was in the Seattle Coliseum in early 1990. Thank you so much for this! And this song applies to today as much (if not even more) as it did when it was written!

Geddy went through so many hair/fashion changes from the eighties through the nineties.
Sorry. Someone had to say it...
glennorange 1 year ago
@glennorange Yeah and personally I think this is an ugly one. The slicked hair, the lack of soul patch, and those CLOTHES...
But the important thing is that he still rocks here, and in all other videos.
