I know, if im remembering my comment right, I was pointing out that while they are different means, they can often reach the same end, and that therefore to declare one poor practice while advocating another is folly.
it should be illegal (worldwide) for seed companies..er, chemical companies playing as seed companies, to patent and "own" any natural seed, making everyone pay for them. They "patented" modified seeds w/ suicide genes on purpose so that anyone paying for them/using them has to buy again and again each year at prices higher than a natural seed equivalent would cost. that's greed and manipulation and should be illegal. No one should "own" natural seeds that've been here & shared for centuries!
what are you talking about, you can buy non modified seeds. Are they greedy? They spend millions on research and effort and make amazing discoveries. The farmer profits more by using their product. If they didn't do you think the farmer would buy them? Also it benefits fruit loops like you who think the plants are going to go crazy and become some kind of freak plant. By preventing farmers from replanting crops it prevents room for mutations beyond what the manufacturer intended.
@driftke70 GE contamination of Non-GE varieties has raised the cost of those seeds and in some cases the seed companies will outright tell you that they can not guaranty those seeds are Non-GE. Supply and demand also caused GE crop seeds(promised to have benefits) to initially have an increased demand, this caused a reduction in production of conventional seeds, raising their cost. When GE crops didn't live up to the promises, the farmers couldn't afford to switch back to conventional.
@myndy86 Those are gross assumptions at best. GM seeds are vastly more expensive. Costs are re-incurring. Most farmers have stock piles of seeds from previous harvests that they could easily revert to. You going to sit there and tell me, that people can continue to keep buying GM seeds every season, but cant afford a one off cost for non genetically modified seeds?
@driftke70 You said "You going to sit there and tell me, that people can continue to keep buying GM seeds every season, but cant afford a one off cost for non genetically modified seeds?" I said "in some cases the seed companies will outright tell you that they can not guaranty those seeds are Non-GE." So, it is not just about a one off cost for Non-GE seeds, also since patents on GE seeds, many conventional crops now have patents as well. So, in many cases it wouldn't be a one off cost.
@driftke70 You said "fruit loops like you who think the plants are going to go crazy and become some kind of freak plant". So, are you calling scientists, "fruit loops"?
"we show that the expression of the Cry1Ac endotoxin has detrimental effects on both the in vitro and in vivo growth and development of transgenic plants.""all the lines that showed appreciable levels of expression were found to be phenotypically abnormal." ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21654089
@myndy86 Many scientists act like fruit loops to earn a living. I am what you would call a scientist, and I work on a daily basis with others in the industry. Found to be phenotypically abnormal? Maybe because THEY ARE GENTETICALLY MODIFIED. You think if you compare GM and non GM they are going to be the same? As I said, which you chose to skip or ignore (is ignorance really bliss?) GM crops are not replanted from season to season. Your link is a dead link, and you are making HUGE assumptions.
@driftke70 So, your argument was that fruit loops think GE plants are "some kind of freak plant" but you are now admitting that they are phenotypically abnormal. So, are you calling yourself a fruit loop? You said "GM crops are not replanted from season to season." What does that have to do with them being phenotypically abnormal? You are also forgetting about contamination. You said, "you are making HUGE assumptions." What assumptions? You admitted GM crops are phenotypically abnormal!

Feudalism worked in the past before some lazy people tricked people and spun the truth. Today, corporate ownership of seeds and patenting all seeds, even non-GMO seeds can work too. Corporate farming creates jobs. Family farms do not. Vote NO to laws that hurt jobs. Vote YES to allowing Monsanto to liberate us from high priced organic foods and greedy family farms.
Genetic engineering is no different than the cross breeding and species propagation we humans have been doing for thousands of years. I wonder if people protested when the first llama was born?
It's totally different. Recently starving Africa refused the GE foods grain offered to them free. The US later sent them the Non modified wheat. Europe has a ban and Japan never permitted the genetically modified foods. This is how USA was made aware that it was in our food. Japan has never permitted in their country "Seeds of deception" is on Youtube.
You are missing the core issue about gmo's. Once they are in the environment, the gmo's contaminate non-gmo crops, via the wind, pollinators, etc. This contamination cannot be controlled. How can I protect my non-gmo corn seeds from being contaminated? I can't. In the not-so-distant future, if I want to be sure I'm not eating gmo corn, I'll have to stop eating corn entirely.

Guess what...corn is entirely a GMO food since it's use and selection by indians of South America centuries ago. You anti-GMO folks are really alarmists. So try growing your own food. Yeah, let's go back to an agrarian society and scrap all we've learned in 1000years.
@moniker127 Genetic Engineering is not selective or cross breeding. Here is the USDA definition of Genetic Engineering "under guidelines issued by USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, genetic engineering is defined as the genetic modification of organisms by recombinant DNA techniques (7CFR340: 340.1)." "Recombinant DNA techniques (DNA formed by combining segments of DNA from different organisms)" ers.usda.gov/briefing/biotechnology/glossary.htm

There will be protests throughout the U.S. on 3/26/11 regarding genetic engineering/modification.
Go to "Rally for the Right to Know" on facebook, for more information.
Go to the "organicconsumers" website to sign petitions.
Type "Millions Against Monsanto Campaign 2011" in the youtube search engine

The transfer of genes between sexually incompatible organisms can only be done using bacteria and viruses. This is mutation, not cross breeding.

Corn that replicates proteins from an infused bacterial DNA? Would you willingly eat a plate of replicated bacteria dressed up to look like corn?
Would you feed that shit to your child?
It is nothing short of treason for which Monsanto and government reps should be shot.
