  • Thanks for going through all that for us....although it was painfully boring to watch, lol. I'm appreciative though so good work man, pretty dog too.

  • She want to doggy dance! lol

  • where can i buy some bankline i cant find any

  • @JLJoefisher7JL i think its some kind of fishing cord, so some fishing store or something maybe? ive been looking for some myself but cant find any yet.

  • @trumpet190 i think i found it, its called tether cord, youtube wont let me send the links i will send them to you in a message.

  • Nice chair ,The dog is wondering who you are talking to, hahah.

  • how much cordage did it take you for the chair lashings?

  • Good video, me and a buddy been thinking of taking a survival course, these videos are a great help,. Keep up the good work!

  • @chickenfauker what happens when your lighters run out of fuel ? or your matches run out or get soaked ? do they produce a few thousand degree spark that can lit fire even in the rain ?

  • Pretty good job on the stool Steve.. How much cordage would you say that you used in lashing that all? Thanks for the video

  • Dave, It uses a fare amount of cordage. But this was more about getting people thinking about campcraft and utilizing different lashings then it was about a chair.

  • @woodcrafter76

Understood Bro.. and it was a great video... as well as a good job getting others thinking!

  • good job on the video a little more editing and you have it nailed. thanks for your time and patience, keep them coming

  • could you also weave a seat into the chair.

  • Critter, I like your vids. I like how you talk a lot. I like how you show all the parts where you're working to get it just right. The only thing I can think of to suggest is getting close up shots of your lashings and such. It is difficult to see what the cordage is doing from a distance. Those of us that camp year round understand that it isn't about how long it takes to make something but the time spent in the woods that counts. I always build something for the next camper, even if that's me.

  • Steel wool info really cool. Don't sweat negs. Things we do will always be doubted by the armchair experts of the world!

  • idk what it is but i cant listen to this guy

  • A+ on your first solo vid keep them coming

  • Very good, but it takes a lot of rope. I'd put in my pack a light hand drill and some nails and keep the rope.

  • that was awesome thank you.

  • HEY GUYS! for everyone who hasnt added Dave on Facebook and hasn't read this yet here is a recent posting by Dave :::::::::::::::::::::::: " Okay now for the BIG NEWS-My Manager informed me this AM that comms with the ? Network (No Formal Press Release yet) reveal that I am now able to shoot EDUCATIONAL VIDEO for the Pathfinder School and Post to You Tube as long as they are not Product Advertising. So It's ON FOLKS! New Skills comming soon!"

  • I like how the dog helps . I wish my dog was that smart .

  • Thanks Steve!

  • Any chance you can end the debate about why the steel wool burns. I would thing if you took some of the steel wool you know will burn and wash it thoroughly then dry it you could then determine if it is oils or some coating on the steel wool or not.

  • 5 stars for the dog :D

  • Awesome vid, love the chair technique... but you're not camping if they can reach you by phone. Sorry, bro, that's just this man's opinion.

  • Well, hell. In that case, I'm camping at home. I don't get service at home. lol.

  • That's ironic! You must live in Queens!

  • No, Ohio. lol.

  • Very cool chair. I would go nuts doing all that lashing though. Lol.

Beautiful dog as well. She seems like a good friend, which is a great thing to see.

  • Thanks Steve. Awesome video.

  • I loved the video! your dog seemed so happy! lol

  • "You can see she hates attention"

    ROFLMAO :)

  • are you ever going to finish the the shelter?

  • I just throw a tarp over it when I stay in it. The frame holds the snow load.

  • Thanks for the video, good to see someone out there in the snow.

  • I would like to start by saying great job. I like your camra guy and how he uses difrent shots on the other vids but you did well on your own.

Now I'm wondering if you took off the bark if it would last longer or if it will rot out just as fast eather way?

  • If you take off the bark the wood will dry faster and insects will live within the bark, but its a matter of personal taste some think the chair looks more "rugged" with bark on.

  • you should cheack out the user name Econo Challenge and cheack out his camp chair. is easer to make and is quiker.

  • I gotta say when you started putting that together I had my doubts. And part way through I thought it was going to be hardcore about pinching some ass but in the end it was a really nice camp chair.

  • I think you guys have made the best Channel on Youtube. Great Stuff.

  • Awesome vid! Workin in the cold seems natural for u!

  • I guess I have the phone to. Duh! I bet it would work to.

  • Thanks for posting Steve..it was a good vid..fire first to keep you warm if the hands got stiff and useless, and a mobile on you..so what if it went off,,if you fell awkward and bust an ankle, you fone for help..The little cold snap we had in Uk..5" snow and -4 deg..not awful but hell, walking in 3 miles=layered up,flask of hot coffee, edc.and a mobile!!stuff looking uncool to some"dudes" I'm not taking chances with my ass..you keep 'em coming sir!

  • Good on ya critter, your doin well. Good info to be had with good presentation.

  • nice tote and fetch helper! those little tins are a sold at dollar gen. big lots and dollar tree they are rolled cookie tins for 1$ i find lots if nice tins and cooking pot tins around xmas.these are year round item.

  • Nice Vid Critter! Yours are definately the ones I look forward to the most in Daves absence. I think the challenge and debate on here is good, it shows that you are engaging people to get involved. There are a lot of people in the world and just as many opinions, it doesn't make anyone wrong. Keep up the great vids Steve. BTW you need to get a panier style pack for Vi, she'll burn off more energy and save you carrying some stuff too. ;-)

  • good idea! i wonder if my yorkies would wear them?lol ! they get lost in a 2 in snow bank! i guess i could carrie them in my pockets for hand warmers.

  • I love your dog. She MAKES the video! ;)

Nice video, nice pace; not too fast and not boring slow.

  • 5/5m8

  • I almost unsubscribed from Dave's channel when he left, and then I started watching your videos. Good job man and a nice dog, keep it up.

  • critter i hate to say but i think your building the wrong shelter

  • Good stuff.

  • cool,...

  • Dude, you can use a 9 volt battery to light the steel wool.

It's a lot less risky, 'cause a lot can go wrong with a lighter. Flint can go, it can get cracked and leak, it can run out of gas, etc. Just hold the battery on it, and the current causes it to light, pretty quickly.

  • @Vehementi

Dude, before you make a dumb ass comment. Be sure to watch his previous videos. Its not a gas lighter. Just a big flint and striker.

  • Dude, before you make a dumbass comment, watch his hand as he lights it.

  • I've used a 9v battery and steel wool for ages, 1 battery will easily last 4-5 months. Hardly a dumbass comment, considering it works really well.

  • google spark lite firestarter.

  • @Vehementi Critter's making videos for a reason buddy. I doubted him in the comments of the last video regarding using a spark alone to light steel wool. I never realised it would cause such a debate. Seriously it is just a spark he's using. He's also been kind enough to do it as a demo.... doubting the expert can cause embarressment, seriously!. Especially one that reads the comments haha

  • I wasn't doubting him... he's far, far more experienced than I could ever hope to be, for example, it'd take me ages to get a fire going in the snow, something that took him less than 20 seconds.

Still, if I know a way to light fire that he might not (To be honest, I'd be surprised if he didn't.), then what's wrong with letting him know?

  • 9v batterys sure will light up some steel wool in a hurry. The only thing i carry that takes batteries is a small light ( 3 aaa). Maybe we'll do something with that.

  • hey Critter, what kind of cup do are you using to make your hot chocolate? I like the way it looks. I'd like to find one myself if you could help me out

  • Good vid, nice work. I liked the 'feature length' format, personally. Always nice to see how folk make their time out more manageable. You're very right about getting up off the ground; no point trying to heat the earth with your body. Thanks again, hope to see more.

    Loved the furry companion!

  • Nice vid and good job on the chair, looks nice, also cute dog, like some one said before me added to the video.

  • your most welcome for the coco crit'r. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • does anyone know what it is that makes steel wool burn so good?

  • dose critter have his own sight

  • First solo video with a new camera? I wouldn't have known it if you didn't admit it. You are doing Dave right proud, I'm sure.

  • Great Video Man!

    Five Stars My Friend!

  • got about 5in snow here MO,

    ☆☆☆☆☆

  • Critter buddy I stand corrected and I apologise. You just got yourself another loyal follower....one that feels like a bit of a muppet right now! Thanks for doing that its greatly appreciate and how shocked my face must have looked when I heard you mention it.

  • get em Ken!!!! y can't people just shut there mouth if they have nothing nice to say? great job critter!!! I've been waiting to see this video from you!!!

  • great video cool project and good looking pup

  • Great Job Critt'r. Love your Dog looks like she's filling out nice, robust little Tank lol, Excellent Campcraft thanks for sharing. With Dave gone for at least 2 years from making vids, im glad your Head Instructor at the Pathfinder School, look forward to your next vid and meetin at the Pathfinder Gathering 2010

  • how do i go about ordering a pathfinder scandi knife

  • cant them anymore for the time being. . .

  • you cant for about two years now...I missed out as well

  • nice vid bro! thnx

  • Why dont you put a few videos up yourself, lets so how well spoken you are...I think hes doing a fine job, and if you dont like the way he talks, dont watch man...and watch the lanquage, God did nothing to be damned for, and kids do watch these videos

  • hey never said it before man but you taught me how to make a conibear. before that i was just kinda like ""....huh?"" didnt really understand what i was looking at when i saw one, but since that video i watched where you made one ive made a couple and i got it down pact now.

    thanks man.

  • First this is a great video. I will try this next time i go camping. Secondly for the other coments steel wool is not made out of steel it is iron that does rust. You do need to oil it to prevent rust but it is not tje oil that burns.

  • Think about it. It is indeed the oil that burns.

  • you should really put a roof on your lean to.

  • I put a tarp over it when I stay in it.

  • The dude that called you out on the steel wool needs to make sure his steel wool is oiled.

Its not so much that the steel burns, but the oil used to keep it from rusting that burns so well when sparked.

  • to use steel wool don't just light it ; just like a cotton ball spread it open and fluff it.

  • nice vid your dog is like who are you talking to me?

  • Vi is a 1.5 year old lab. She's turning into a great dog. Still a lot of puppy in her though. When I'd start to record and talk she'd come running thinking I was talking to her.Had to start over o couple of times.lol

  • Thanks a lot for showing how to do this. Ever since I saw your videos on traps I wondered how you made the chair that was in your camp. Great vid!

  • awesome video

  • does critter have his own page?

  • wasnt this already done by silver wolf (aka sean mulhall)

  • He made his out of cloth.

  • ah, ok

  • Awesome video . . . thanks!

  • you`r dog looks almost exactly like mine XD

  • Someone needs to tell the dog not to eat snow. I mean come on! Great vid.

  • Great vid and great dog, I miss having a good mans best friend.

  • great vid man much apreshiated

  • Certainly lives up to your reputation.
