@brennan2k9 The limit is one per year, if you get draw for a swan tag. Their population has soared since legal hunting for swans started in 1985. It's really a success story.
In my country if you get caught harming these birds you would more than likely get a prison sentence, they are considered far to good for the peasants, and only royalty are allowed to eat them......
Ever since the day a swan tipped me over in my Kayak I've always felt the need to shoot one. Here's a warning though...If you shoot a swan overhead and it lands on you, you're both dead!
nice, i used to hate currituck cause some of the wrestlers were little shitheads but some of yall are alright haha. went out on the boat with a DFG guy from currituck, I think his name was Channler but not sure
Good hunts... I don't really hunting them up here in Alaska though. Well, every now and then... They got some tough meat on them... But still.... Good Eaten..
If you are talking about the swans we kill, then the answer is "yes". Swan are good eating. We keep all the breast meat, thights and legs and even use the neck bone to make a soup.
The annual limit is one if you get drawn. I've killed either five or six since 2000. My son has killed two.
There's one taken with a .410 shooting #6 Bismuth. Most are taken with high speed #2 steel in 12 gauge guns.
My son killed his with a 20 gauge youth model 870 shooting #2 Fasteel. I didn't get the shot on camera, but filmed him picking the bird up. He killed another with the same gun last season.
I applied for a Tundra Swan license in North Carolina, hopefully I get one. I just purchased a Remington 887 Nitro Mag that I'm looking forward to taking waterfowl hunting.
Awesome video, they must be hard to miss with the size of them. I live in the UK and if we were caught shooting we would get put away for like 10 years.
I normally delete comments like yours but I have decided to leave it as testimony to the intellect of non-hunters.
Yes, we are red necks. No, we knew exactly what we were shooting. We are perfectly legal and ethical.
I'm sorry that you struggle expressing yourself with words. I suggest some activities to improve your vocabulary. Maybe a third grade teacher can help you after class.
Yes it was a single shot .410, but we are very careful. It was a close shot at the head only. Most shots at pheasant are going away. It would be hard to kill a big wild bird with a body shot, but not impossible.
I don't think so. Swan has a unique "musky" flavor that I believe comes from what they usually eat. It's not necessarily bad, but it noticable and different from the snow and canada geese I've eaten. The leq quarters of a swan are really great roasted. I usually make jerky out of the breast meat.
only beat by the day i shot my trophy mule deer, the day i got my swan was the best day of my life. finly drew a tag this year, swan hear i come.

there such beutiful creatures why kill them?
virtualhope 2 years ago
First I'll help with the grammar:
"They're such beautiful creatures. Why kill them?"
Now the answer:
Tundra swans are beautiful and their populations are healthy enough to support well-regulated, legal hunting.
Rubberhead 2 years ago
Because they taste good... ;P

good vid but you could cut the time in 1/2 if you took out all the shots of the guys holding the 3 dead swans.
