@karthikbans I agree that they do that, but the problem is that there's no seperation between church, or in this case mosque, and the state. So they're using religion as a political tool. Where this point goes extremely bad is that the government more often than not is in the hands of religious anti-america fantatics and the United States has only justified (I use that word loosely) this hatred over the course of the last 10 years. There ARE issues with some muslim folks in some countries, but thats not islam, its a cultural thing. The way you help those women is not to denounce those womens religious beliefs, but provide support to feminist groups (like the revolutionary women of afghanistan) in their fight for equal rights. If you were talking and someone comes and talks over you and after a few warnings the guy keeps talking over you, ignoring your pleas, then you can poke him in his arm or shoulder to get his attension. I'm a fan of Maher's and I enjoyed Religulous. On this point; however, he's is mistaken. The oppression of women is apart of the culture of many Middle Eastern countries. These countries are predominately Muslim. But oppression of women is not part of Islam. Gender Equality is part of the Muslim philosophy. Mohommed's wife (who was older than him) was a successful businesswomen, who gave him counsel on occasion and is respected in Islam.

You've known what's right or wrong from the time you were child. You didn't need to read a book or go to church to figure it out.
