I work on them for a living. They still haven't come up with the official regulations for server based. Currently if we change the payback percentage of a machine the physical asset number of the machine must change. Any changes like that must be approved by the regulators. It's a very time consuming process involving official letters, camera coverage of the games, regulatory testing and a stack of paperwork.

The payout jackpot payout went from 1000 quarters to 800 quarters and the percentage from 92% to 86%. This out here in Vegas. I thought wow what a rip-off. I was told this was done company wide on all the server based games. Aria slots are all server based.

Usually there are five different computer chips that can be installed that return everywhere from 83% to 97%. Because 83% is required in New Jersey there is a limited market for something smaller. Most people expect at least that amount. Their is no dial, you have to physically switch out the computer chip. Since you need to fill out paperwork ad have a rep from the Gaming Control Board on site, the switch is not done very often. The board does not permit a simple dial.
i can't believe the different theories about slot machine , it's simple , it's called a microchip that ramdomlly pays out winning draws . each spin is a different draw . the take is around 8 % . so in the long run the best you can do is lose 8% of every bet you make. that's it .. in the long run you can never be a winner.. never .

He's right. There's a British show called The Real Hustle, and in an episode the tell you all about the switch used in slot machines. There are keys that you can buy that once inserted, it'll tell you how much money that previous players have inserted. Just don't use them, or the casino will fuck you up big time.
Also, there are no "Dials" inside the machine to change the payouts. It can only be changed my swapping an EEPROM chip on the processor board and then reconfigure the entire game. It's not a task that can be triggered from a "control room".
The payback percentage is calculated over the life of the machine, not the amount of money spent per player. Most are set in the 88-92% range, some are higher depending on the State's gaming regulations.

in England and wales, the lowest this rate can legally be is 70% generally arcade bandit/slots (£5 jackpots are around the 78-84% payout)
and over 18, casino/all cash slots with much higher jackpots are around 92-97%, this means that when the hopper is full and the machine has took alot of money, possibly over a series of different players / days the machine is more likely to payout.

I don't know how true this is, but i know for a fact that i've sat at a machine for the max of 3 hours and got several jp payouts! 2 for one thousand, 1 for 1500, 1 for 3000 and 1 for 3200.... and in the 3 hour period. i guess that was the machine programmed to pay to show the others they they too can win if they keep pumping money in.
this is so inaccurate,,,alot of vegas machines pay out 90 to 99 percent,they are on a 10 year payout cycle some of them no casino would stay in business paying out 3 percent come on guy!!!!
I work for a major AWP manufacturer: no UK machine can be set to lower than 70% - it is impossible. American machines ditto: the Nevada gaming regulations are strict and any suspect settings in software would have a catastrophic effect on the manufacturers gaming licence. Without that, you are screwed. These days you HAVE to be whiter than white. No ifs, no buts.

The only part correct: the machines take in more than they pay out! It's not so easy to change the payout (IF he is suggesting the workers can change it at whim. think of all the RICH and LUCKY relatives & friends they would have if that simple!). I have no idea how a "controlled" machine would work or even what it would be. The whole notion that the machine "knows" its payout percentage and "adjusts" itself is simply not true. The machine only keeps track of coin-in/coin-out for bookeeping purposes, not to influence the payback.
I'm sorry, but that is exactly how some machines work. We produce machines that check their running percentage every 1000 games, and adjust their payout for the next 1000 games depending on if they are under/overpaid.
This concept of machines knowing their running percentage even predates computer-controlled machines that are common today. The old mechanical machines used to have a cams attached to a motor. When you inserted coins, the motor would turn the cam clockwise.
When coins were paid out, as winnings, the motor would turn the cam anticlockwise. From the position of the cams, the machine could determine (usually by the means of switches) if it had paid out too much or if it needed to give some more wins.
Of course, I'm generalising here. In certain parts of the world, Norway for example, this type of machine is not allowed, whilst in other countries, the UK and Spain being two big markets, they are allowed and are account for the bulk of the market.
OK, I've just checked your website, and see that you are USA based, therefore, because of the high levels of regulation you have, all of the above would most likely be deemed illegal in you country. But I stand by the fact that the guy in the video is correct. There are machines in the world, and large numbers of them, that work pretty much as the guy in this video describes.
It does sound like BS. Of the major manufacturers, IGT, Bally, Williams, which one of them has "a dial" inside? None I've ever heard of. They are not adjusted by "maintainance people", and 3% payback is absurd! Almost no one would play machines with odds like those.

Perhaps not, but on a recent episode of "The Real Hustle" (a british TV show dealing with scams) there was a section covering fruit machine 'hacks', if someone is able to access the innards of one of those machines using a key, they can then plug in a small device bought over the internet to alter the payout to as low as 7%, it was on episode 6, you might be able to find out more info if you google for it.

Usually there are five different computer chips that can be installed that return everywhere from 83% to 97%. Because 83% is required in New Jersey there is a limited market for something smaller. Most people expect at least that amount. Their is no dial, you have to physically switch out the computer chip. Since you need to fill out paperwork ad have a rep from the Gaming Control Board on site, the switch is not done very often. The board does not permit a simple dial.

i can't believe the different theories about slot machine , it's simple , it's called a microchip that ramdomlly pays out winning draws . each spin is a different draw . the take is around 8 % . so in the long run the best you can do is lose 8% of every bet you make. that's it .. in the long run you can never be a winner.. never .

Mis-information at its best - Payouts vary from 70%~95% it depends on the type of slot and the amount - a $5 slot for example will usually have a higher payout than say a quarter one - all this is controled by gaming board, there are regulations - a casino is NOT allowed to do that - A slot has 2 keys, one to open the door and another key to set the SKILL setting. Some machines in some strategic spots have higher payouts and are "loose" - whilst others are tighter - They move around those too.

I'm a tech at a casino this guy is hilarious and as much as people want to belive that there is a 'magical dial' that either pays or not is just not true. depending on the machine it would probably take at least fifteen minutes to reconfigure a machine. and then what are you going to do with security and gaming officers standing right there over the top of ya. If you want good advice on how to come out ahead of the casino. Keep your money in your pocket.

He's right. There's a British show called The Real Hustle, and in an episode the tell you all about the switch used in slot machines. There are keys that you can buy that once inserted, it'll tell you how much money that previous players have inserted. Just don't use them, or the casino will fuck you up big time.

Also, there are no "Dials" inside the machine to change the payouts. It can only be changed my swapping an EEPROM chip on the processor board and then reconfigure the entire game. It's not a task that can be triggered from a "control room".

The payback percentage is calculated over the life of the machine, not the amount of money spent per player. Most are set in the 88-92% range, some are higher depending on the State's gaming regulations.

Slots are controlled by computer chips hard coded at the factory for payout percentage and hit frequency. Casinos must apply to change a machine's chip to the gaming board. The mfgr must program a new chip and send a company tech to install the chip in the presence of a state official. This man is a complete idiot. The moral is if you want to learn something, watch educational shows on TV. If you want to be an idiot, watch people like this.

every slot machine/bandit, has a target payout rate, a rate that it tries to keep to.
in England and wales, the lowest this rate can legally be is 70% generally arcade bandit/slots (£5 jackpots are around the 78-84% payout)
and over 18, casino/all cash slots with much higher jackpots are around 92-97%, this means that when the hopper is full and the machine has took alot of money, possibly over a series of different players / days the machine is more likely to payout.

I don't know how true this is, but i know for a fact that i've sat at a machine for the max of 3 hours and got several jp payouts! 2 for one thousand, 1 for 1500, 1 for 3000 and 1 for 3200.... and in the 3 hour period. i guess that was the machine programmed to pay to show the others they they too can win if they keep pumping money in.

I work for a major AWP manufacturer: no UK machine can be set to lower than 70% - it is impossible. American machines ditto: the Nevada gaming regulations are strict and any suspect settings in software would have a catastrophic effect on the manufacturers gaming licence. Without that, you are screwed. These days you HAVE to be whiter than white. No ifs, no buts.

The only part correct: the machines take in more than they pay out! It's not so easy to change the payout (IF he is suggesting the workers can change it at whim. think of all the RICH and LUCKY relatives & friends they would have if that simple!). Ther's a reason why there is a gaming commission and rules that casinos have to follow to be LEGIT. Machines have a RNG (random number generator) & that chip that runs the computer is just that...random ( BUT set for the percentage beforehand) :>)

Yeah, what do I know, I only sit in front of a computer wired up to one all day, so that wouldn't quality me say weather he's right or wrong? Obviously, he's referring to controlled/compensated machines as opposed to random machines, but then you'd know that. Please tell us how these controlled machines really work, I'd really love to know.

I have no idea how a "controlled" machine would work or even what it would be. The whole notion that the machine "knows" its payout percentage and "adjusts" itself is simply not true. The machine only keeps track of coin-in/coin-out for bookeeping purposes, not to influence the payback.

I'm sorry, but that is exactly how some machines work. We produce machines that check their running percentage every 1000 games, and adjust their payout for the next 1000 games depending on if they are under/overpaid.
This concept of machines knowing their running percentage even predates computer-controlled machines that are common today. The old mechanical machines used to have a cams attached to a motor. When you inserted coins, the motor would turn the cam clockwise.

When coins were paid out, as winnings, the motor would turn the cam anticlockwise. From the position of the cams, the machine could determine (usually by the means of switches) if it had paid out too much or if it needed to give some more wins.
Of course, I'm generalising here. In certain parts of the world, Norway for example, this type of machine is not allowed, whilst in other countries, the UK and Spain being two big markets, they are allowed and are account for the bulk of the market.

OK, I've just checked your website, and see that you are USA based, therefore, because of the high levels of regulation you have, all of the above would most likely be deemed illegal in you country. But I stand by the fact that the guy in the video is correct. There are machines in the world, and large numbers of them, that work pretty much as the guy in this video describes.

It does sound like BS. Of the major manufacturers, IGT, Bally, Williams, which one of them has "a dial" inside? None I've ever heard of. They are not adjusted by "maintainance people", and 3% payback is absurd! Almost no one would play machines with odds like those.

Perhaps not, but on a recent episode of "The Real Hustle" (a british TV show dealing with scams) there was a section covering fruit machine 'hacks', if someone is able to access the innards of one of those machines using a key, they can then plug in a small device bought over the internet to alter the payout to as low as 7%, it was on episode 6, you might be able to find out more info if you google for it.
