they r so cool lol i used my friends and by fluke i got it started withouth the pullcord i used my thimb and i found out that when its going a descent speed move ur wrist slower and it picks up speed

as the speed of rotation increases so does the apparent mass because of gyroscopic force, so it "feels" heavier and works your muscles.

If you can get the dang thing spinning. Good luck. I can't (yet).

I finally got it going without the string.

I FINALLY got it to spin without the string (thumb flick) and then could accelerate it with wrist motion. I had a crappy one at first, that was my problem, and then bought a real one. Good equipment makes a difference. It's really fun! My NSD Powerball rocks! It has flashing lights on the spinning part that blink every time they pass the hole where you flick your thumb to start it, the lights give the RPM. Cool toy! I'm in my 50's, but I still love cool gadgets as much as I did when I was 5.
