wonderful job...it's nice to see a piece that really challenges its dancers and highlights their skills. the dymanics were great with a lot of levels, but the style stayed consistent. the choreography of the arms and upper body was amazing. my only thing is i would have liked to see more floor work, but we all have our things ;)
As, I see it, most modern dances for the past 50 years go to the floor and use "pedestrian movement" for arms and those ideas have saturated the NYC modern dance scene. My dance is pure entertainment story telling for a larger audience using jazz/modern as the medium. So, for me, to actually find an excuse to go to the floor would be an unnecessary artistic indulgence/choice pressured upon me by the dance community status quo.
Thanks, markissantony, for your cool comment! I see your point about the floor work, adding yet another level to an already layered piece (my teachers in college would of told me to explore the floor); but I'm no longer into the "downtown"/post modern dance scene.
I just came from your site on YouTube . . . oops . . . I made the comments about the floor before I saw your piece. Let me revise . . . the "floor" to me means pain, anxiety, desparation, sleep. So, floor work/a slower piece would have to come before "Save Me" to make an ounce of sense to the viewer in order to set up "SUSPENSE" that something is a wry. "Save Me" is a race, a sense of urgency, a hit the eject button before it is too late. I hope this is making sense, markissantony
Oh no! I wasn't even recommending you adhere to traditional modern technique, but I wanted to note that you don't use the floor very much, which you knew already.
My interest was piqued by the little bit of floor work that you did use. I actually am a hypocrite and haven't used the floor much until recently where I CHALLENGED myself to choreograph a piece that strictly stayed on the floor; almost as a satire and an "f" you to traditional modern rise and fall aesthetics. I love your work, it wasn't a stab :)
Love you, markissantony! The floor is a very difficult place to be and very difficult place for non-dance audience members to understand - that is why people who choreograph all over the floor all the time never make a dime in this industry and stay
in the starving artist scene. People outside of the dance world just don't understand why dancers roll all over the floor, they fake appreciation for the movement, or just think it is weird. I don't wish to be an elitist or dance snob. When I graduated from college
dance, I was a dance snob about the modern aesthetic, but after moving to New York I slowly found out that that particular attitude can quickly limit your pocket book. So now I dance for audiences and not dancers. If ordinary folks don't get it, I failed. Where do you dance? Are you in NYC?
Funny you should mention that. I walked out on school because of the elitist attitude of modern dance. I said to myself "if i take one more Graham class" funny how something that broke boundaries has so many new boundaries to replace the old ones.
I don't dance with anyone. I am a visionary and I am inspired by dancers and social commentary. I care what people think but I don't sacrifice what I have to say and how to say it. I'm doing my best and have always produced my own shows here in Philadelphia.
You give a strong reply, markissantony. Besides not being even more difficult with the choreography that I have already choreographed due to rehearsal time limitations, there are no sacrifices on my part as far as style and story. For me, I interpret what you write, "what I have to say and how I say it" to be relative to the creator's personal conventions; thus, I agree with you, I too just create whatever the heck I want; however, when you dance and create
whatever the heck I want; however, when you dance and create dance for a real living, you are NEVER satisfied with yourself and your craft until the audience is sufficiently satisfied . . . until then, there is always room for improvement, creativity, and ingenuity.
Hey, Philly is totally not far from me . . . what do you have coming up? I would love to come out, perform, or collab. Hit me back, markissantony! Have a great one! Candicegetsdown2
This is so good! I love it! You haven`t had Paul Henry as a teacher once? it reminds me of him, and it is so cool! Good luck in future preformances and choreographys, and i hope to se more of you here on You Tube! greetings from Emanuel from Norway/Oslo!
Norway in the house! Thank you so much for your comment . . . I sooooo appreciate it. No, I do not know Paul Henry, but I will definitely look him up. Is he from Norway? Check out the rest of my stuff on YouTube/Candicegetsdown2. Have a great day!

This work is pure physical genius. Danced to perfection. Choreographed to perfection. I loved it. This work exemplifies artistic brilliance at its best. It was a honor to watch it. I am impressed and completely moved!
Oh, thank you soooooooo much, Kamal1st! Your comment means so much to me. I feel very honored that my art and my movement expression can touch you so . . . Have a great day! -candicegetsdown2
Oh, thank you sooooooooooo much for the comment, my YouTube friend! I also check to see if their is a remix of Funkier Than a Mosquito's Tweeter. Have a great and fabulous day! Keep dancing, bboydancer17! LOL, candicegetsdown2
hey it's chris. the video looks great! love what you did with the editing, looks like we never messed up! lol and it definitely adds to the story too. thanks for making us look good!
Hey, stop telling on yourself! Ya'll look good no matter what . . . I think you all should be proud of yourselves due to the fact that we only had one rehearsal before we taped this and we were missing two people . . . Congrats, Dance Divo! You better have rated yourself five stars! Love you, Candice.
I really loved this piece, its expressive and the dancers are very talented. I personally loved the flow of the choreography your arm work in the piece says so much, as a choreographer your have truly grown. Your dancers are clean and their technique and body type works perfect for your type of work. The next time you do this piece find a dancer for your role so that you can sit back and watch. Have you thought about turning this into a full evening piece?
This is actually an extension "at least in my head" of Act II of my Bible Works piece. Check out the Garden Party I & II and Cain and Abel. As far as the part I'm in, I actually stepped in as a as a last minute replacement dancer for the beautiful dancer, Consuela Holmes, just to tape the rehearsal. I never performed any part before for this piece until 15-20 minutes before we taped! So, clearly I'm lost an under-rehearsed! Ha, ha!
I'm not in the original cast for the theatre performance. We are missing one boy actually for this rehearsal shoot and the girl who plays me. The original cast is Victor, Alexandra, Carmen, Chris, Danion Lewis, and Consuela Holmes. If I ever do this again, I'm changing that last solo! Ugggh!
Thanks, Nkisi666! I really appreciate your wonderful comments! I'll be sure to pass on your thoughts to my beautiful dancers. We actually performed this at DNA in NYC in mid-April with Consuela Holmes in my part as well as Danion Lewis. Danion is performing now with the National Dance Co. of the Bahamas! This tape was made at Joyce Soho for documentation purposes.
This is very impressive work, Candice. Contemporary/Modern, is one of my favorite dance styles. Thank you for sharing!!!
