  • If I buy a stamp and make a card for someone and send it to them for a gift, there is no copyright infringement. Now, if I take that stamp and re-make the stamp, and call it "Sharon's Stamp" that's copyright infringement. Who would buy a stamp if you can't use it to make something for someone else? We all use different designer paper to make cards and mini albums. There's no difference. Let them send in the snake lawyers to fight you off. Bring it on!

  • This is a great idea...thanks for sharing and inspiring others to be inspired!

  • love it rox! I've never done an image swap so no clue about this, but I had heard this rumor even long ago! hope you're well darling!

  • @mADDmartha WHERE have you BEEN!??! Trying cases? It's so nice to hear from you :)

  • @roxyfur yes been busy with the big girl job, then changed big girl jobs, was dating someone seriously for a time, and just moved. whew. tired. lol when I find my camera in whatever box it's packed in, I'm back in business. lol

  • Love how fast you were able to make that card, I usually toil over them forever it seems. I heard somebody randomly mention that copyright issue the other day in a vid, and I guess we all need to check our stamp companies policies. I really don't see how they can justify calling in copyright infringement when money is not exchanged in a swap. That would be like saying you can't show a project you made on YT cause you used their image in it, doesn't make much sense to me either way. Update us.

  • Roxy, I love how you're doing this each week. The cards turned out wonderful. I am also a fan of Janet Evanovich (I'm reading Explosive Eighteen right now). I went to see One for the Money on Saturday and loved it. Can't wait for them to make more!

  • Thanks Roxy. In my 25 odd years of rubber stamping I always knew I couldn't sell for profit. I could donate to sell for charity. There are rubber stamp companies known as Angel companies that allow you to sell for profit. But swapping, or as I see it gifting, I ask how can you prohibit? As for you being snippy ... Can't see it. Love this week thing. Moeboe.

  • i dont see anything wrong with that. My motto is why not pay it foward.have a great weekend (((HUGS)))

  • Roxy,

I love the way your card turned out awesome job, I cant wait until next week now. i purchased a monthly pass to the card magazine.I cant wait to get started TFS.This is what i want to do so i will be playing along with you lol. Also on the copy right issues i have been doing digital for a long time and if you are using for personal use your fine. Also you are not selling it which i don't get anyway if you purchase a stamp image, cricut cart a die whatever and you share with some friends.

  • THANKS for sharing Roxy!! I LOVE the way your cards turned out!! =)

    They are all BEAUTIFUL!! =)

I haven't heard about the stamped image swap thing?? So I am NO HELP!!

    Have a FABULOUS WEEK!! =)

  • Cards I mean! Tee hee!

  • So glad you started this Roxy! Your cars are beautiful and I'm so inspired!

  • Great cards! I haven't heard the rumour but I think you should be ok to swap a few. Interesting point though. My take would be to continue until personally asked to stop. TFS - Lynn

  • super cute card! tfs Lori :-)

  • Love the cards you made Roxy. :) I might make some soon inspired by those. Thanks for sharing!

  • Beautiful cards! The butterfly punch is one of my faves! Nice job & good debate topic.

  • Wow I would love to know the swap rules too.

Love your card. Wonderful creations. Great change.

Great questions. Plus the artist keep coming out with more and more. And you would get a warning first. I wish I could help you but I will be checking back to find out.

Oh I pour my buttons in one of those glitter trays to check them out . Works great.

Oh I love Janet too. I have to see that movie. I have read One for the Money.

  • I LOVE all of your card creations, Roxy! It's funny how fast you got it created here while talking about the copyright issues! TFS....I love to watch your tutorials...:)

  • Colorizing buttons. Tha's a new one. Love your cards.

  • Hey Roxy, From what I understand, it wasn't you tube that made someone pull the video's, it was one company. I've been told that it was LaLa Crafts that doesn't want anyone to swap the images that have been hand stamped. I'm ot sure it's correct because I heard it through the grapevine. I knoe Ford is fierce about protecting their logo, Disney is too. You can make something look like mickey, but can't use the actual logo. Anyway, I enjoyed watching you make your card. JIL

  • @stampyra Right-0 on not using actual logos. Like Warhol, used Mickey's likeness and made it his own. I think it's just a few stamp companies.

  • All of the cards turned out lovely! On the image swap from stamps...I thought it was allowed as long as the image was hand stamped (not scanned and printed), and that it was not being sold unless it was part of a finished project (like a card). tfs hugs, Kimberly

  • Love your cards and love all those buttons! TFS!

  • Roxy, is it too late to join you?

    :) Natasha

  • @Enastasia Not at all, Natasha!

  • Most artists can't afford to pursue cases like this, which while it's not right, allows sharing of patterns/stamps/songs/whatever to continue. I do agree that it can give an artist free advertising/exposure that they might not other wise get, but the internet provides exposure to pretty much everything these days. I've waffled over whether to share when this has come up. Youtube is about sharing what you know and love, and being one big crop get together.

  • I sell quilt patterns and copyright causes as much debate as "100% cotton vs. blends" and "prewash fabric or not"! The easiest way to explain copyright is if you are depriving the creator of the sale of a pattern/stamp/song/whatever by providing someone else with said pattern/stamp/song/whatever, that is copyright infringement. It is up to the creator whether to pursue that person for copyright infringement in the court system.

  • Love your cards and this wonderful series you are hosting. TFS

  • Love watching you work! I had that same mag issue out right b4 I watched your vid. I was going to say the same thing as Fred (sudmorris). Often those tag swaps lead others in the swap to eventually buy the image b/c they fall in love with it and want more than the "one" image they received as part of the swap. That has happened to me with both tag and die cut swaps. I'm sure there are people who could abuse this by trying to sell the images, but that isn't happening in a swap situation. I'd be

  • omg great bottle of buttons...where can I find a milk bottle that is awesome...I've showed many stamped images in my videos and I've never gotten any messages on it..Really Cute card hugs Terrie

  • Love your cards! I'll message you a link I found with some "angel policies. It's from 2009 but pretty much the "rule" is you can use the products any way you want. Some do say that you have to manually handstamp the image and not have a machine reproduce it for you.

  • Your cards are wonderful! You would think some companies would not mind swapping of images since they are getting free avertisement. Sometimes I see stamps and companies I hadn't heard of and I go to their sites and shop. And sometimes when I don't know if I would like the stamp and I see it, I decide to go and buy it. You can't tell everything by looking at a picture on the internet...I like to see it in person and I am not about to go and buy everyone's catalog! TFS

  • There was a thread on splitcoastampers not long ago about this subject. Lots of heated debate. Your cards are lovely.

  • Thanks for sharing your oh-so lovely cards with us!

  • I love this and I love your videos!!!!

  • I keep my buttons in the Starbucks Coffee Frappacino Jars....for while I was drinking those

every afternoon and saving the jars to craft with...it hit me one day that they would work to keep my buttons in by color!!

  • Woot woot for week two! So how about swapping assembled Cricut die cuts? Or Sizzix die cuts? I think that would be the same thing. What if a friend borrowed your stamps and stamped a bunch off, and then sent them back? There are horrible, nasty videos on youtube (I've mistakenly clicked on some doozies) that seem to be OK, its hard to believe they would crack down on this. That's my 2 cents.

  • Disney is pretty protective of their stuff as well. However, they typically go after bigger fish like HD. I worked at a military day care a LONG time ago and we wer told to take all Disney down off of the walls, we couldn't copy coloring books etc. I haven't heard about "little" people not using the Disney likeness for a profit getting sued. Check out US copyright laws to be sure though. Love your work and "conversation"!

  • very pretty

  • cute cards...I don't make cards yet but I am going to try this year =]

  • Great cards! I only know of one person that was having to pull her vids...I wonder if this is the source of the rumor...or somebody close that stamps for a certain stamp company that sells both digital and physical stamps. ;) A while back...this stamp company was bitching about stampers swapping their stamped or printed images...

  • @tsaqt What company was it? I can start a list of non-compliant tag swap images.

  • @roxyfur Hi Roxy, I believe it was last summer when Greeting Farm Stamp Company was trying to crack down on image swapping. Cynthialoowho got some grief if I remember correctly. I'm not sure what the rule is for written material, but I know an artist's original always belongs to the artist, even if the original is sold. That means that if I sell a painting of mine, the person who bought it can't recreate and sell the image as their own. I know there are copywrite laws pertaining to art work.

  • I don't think there is much to the rumor. The critical point seems to be that as long as we are swapping with no monetary consideration then in general it is ok. Otherwise, you have to adhere to a company's Angel Policy...which is usually limited to being able to sell a piece of artwork that you have created with a product that you have purchased....with no mass production of the image. I haven't heard anything else...and would doubt that there is a serious basis to it!

  • Love your card! I just got that Cards Magazine - and there are a ton of designs in there that intrigue me...love how you are challenging yourself to " make them yours!"

  • beautiful beautiful card ...you roxyfurred it ! O and congratz on your 400th public video :)

    Hugs

    Kholoud

  • I love the way the cards came out!

  • I think the rumor is just that, a rumor.... Someones sick attempt to mess with us swappers! The cards are cute!!!

If you find out anything, let us all know!

    Tfs Cynthia

  • Love your cards!!! I enjoy watching you audition the embellishments for a card. I can't wait to see ONE FOR THE MONEY. Love her books & listen to them as books on tape as i ride in the car. Don't know about the stamp image trading. I've wondered about copywright on something i like to do. I love bright & fun patterned fabric & i run it thru my printer to get patterned paper for scrapbooking. I don't sell the images so do you think it's wrong to copy them? TFS

  • @5redbird You'll love the movie as much as the book :) I don't think that's a pro, if you don't sell or publish it, it's fine. I did that with some Christmas fabric and made Christmas cards to send.

  • Love the cards Roxy...super pretty!

  • well in regards to the swapping..I mean it is called a swap.. so it could be considered ok in my book because you will get someone elses so that company has gotten their payment in a way for it. And about the mass production..I would think that is crazy for someone to sit there and do a 1,000 cards, much less pay for 1,000 of them they would come out better just to buy the die..lol Thats my 2 cents and I'm sticking to it..lol Happy Scrappin Roxy

  • Such pretty cards Roxy! Hmmmm.... I think I shall bring out my card/craft magazines, get some inspiration... and make a few cards! tfs...
