It's so sad that this 90's Gothenburg sound just died, because it was SO beautiful. Nowadays melodeath is more metalcore kinda stuff. The only bands that still remind me of the 90's are Insomnium (Who aren't even from Sweden!), and Amon Amarth (Who are from Stockholm!). I do like Dark Tranquillity though. Has anybody got any tips on 90's sounding bands?

I am a huge In Flames fan, and I mean no disrespect but my favorite solo is Human Hive from Anterior and, in my opinion, it is much better than this. It has unbelievable sweeping. I highly recommend it

In terms of emotivity it's got to be Paul Waggoner I guess... Mordecai or Selkies. White Walls is fun too. Also, the solo from Vessel by The Contortionist; not the most complex of solos, but that one really moves me for some reason.

In terms of 'shred', Tosin Abasi can rape anyone, but if you're into more straight metal (and less of the jazz fusion), then maybe Muhammed Suicmez (Fermented Offal Discharge or Advanced Corpse Tumor) or Jeff Loomis (Miles of Machines)?

Although I'm not an In Flames anymore, I do really like this guitar solo. It has a great sense of melody.

Great guitar solo's appear in Judas Priest - Dreamer/Deceiver, later era Death has got great ones and so do Intestine Baalism. Too much to mention. :P
