  • When I first heard this, I'm like "crap, I'm gonna die? Oh they're just singing. That was kinda cute, but I was hoping for something- HOLY SH*T THIS IS EPIC!

  • That's the great thing about Ellen McLain, she knows what she does with her voice. She's a fully trained Opera Singer, but she can effortlessly sing any other style. She can sound distorted and disturbing and then soothing and seductive in a matter of seconds. She makes GlaDOS seem alive (and sarcastic).

  • it's in italien and i'm italien ciao

  • wait chell would probaly die of starvation of exhaustion having to carry the companion cube lol

  • awwwwwwwwww glados are so tsundere ._. when chell go she dedicates the turrent opera to chell :)

  • "Cara Mia Addio" Means Farewell my dear. Awwwwwww...

  • ok.. who was the asshole that miss the lik button ? >=(

  • when i compleated the game my mind went somthing like this "shes letting chell go its final happend" *doors open* "NO NO it cant end like this... wait ... wait there singing.... wow this is kinda nice..... pretty damn good actually .... Oh ... my....god" *cries at the happiest ending to a game ever*

  • i cry

  • *elevator's doors opens

Me: GLaDOS YOU FUCKING BITCH!!...Oh, wait...they are singing!

    True story.

  • @kmbat3 Impossible. Wheatley is still in spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace.

  • The more I listen to this song, the more I love it. And I must have listened to it about 20 times today.

  • Something that isn't commented on much (as far as I've seen), probably because of the beautiful opera prior to it, is the field that Chell steps out into at the end. That is easily the most beautifully rendered field I've ever seen in any video game. Everyone's already praised the music more than I could hope to, but the visuals at the end seem to get overlooked.

  • @leafbarrett I bet it's a simulation run by GLaDOS or something....

  • Sorry, but it's true que lástima means "What a shame" in spanish, but "Che la stima" means She loves her in italian.

    Not Que-lastima, it's Che-la-stima

  • @valios44 actually "che la stima" means "that respect her" in Italian, or something like "that value her"

  • His gf is Chell

  • This poem should have been longer!!!

    ---

    Companion Cube!!!! ^_^

  • Amazing!!!! I looove looove this song! Its tooo awesome! ^_^ Now it will run around in my mind all day! ^_^

  • Thank You TheBeddu's gf for telling him to upload this video! ^_^

  • wheatley dislike this video e.e'

  • @kmbat3 He was trying to like it!

  • Damnit, I just CAN NOT watch this without getting goosebumps.

  • Valve is very detailed before the turret starts to sing the sounds become more human to the point where the sounds sound like Do (breath) Do Do Do Do and the singing turret takes her breath before singing I suppose to "humanize" the turrets and to show GLaDOS has learned from Caroline.

  • speechless...

  • Valve's secrets and attention to detail always leave me amazed lol.

  • in chell's mind i bet she's thinking: Free at last Free at last

  • As Chell steps out the door, it sounds as if the turret guns are having a little rave party down there.

  • So pretty :D

...It sounds a bit like Len, Or Lily :3

  • @TheDicloniusninja Lmao how did Vocaloid get here? XD

  • @ayesha36 Because of the robotness~ yeah, i'm sorry...But i was listening to Lily stuff before i watched this...XD

  • @TheDicloniusninja Haha Ellen McLain is amazing. c:

    Vocaloid too.

  • @ayesha36 :D

  • It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings...

  • Beautiful.

I feel empty after playing the game and watching this ending.

  • Who is the complete and utter MORON who disliked this video?!?!?!?!?

  • @sahie me, problem?

  • @sahie A product of the greatest minds of a generation working together with the express purpose of building the dumbest moron who ever lived.

  • I wanted to cry at the beginning becuase I thought it was so beautiful when the 4 turrets were singing. Then i saw the animal king turret and got EXTREMELY EXCITED! HE EXISISTS!!!!!!!!!!

  • I don't think it's "Ché la stimo": the last vowel is definitely an "a", so it can only be one of these:

    1) "que la stima": Spanish out of nowhere?

    2) "ché la stima": I think this expression doesn't blend in at all.

    3) "che la stima": "who holds her in esteem": it works, but it means that Chell holds Glados in esteem, which doesn't seem quite the case

    4) "ch'ella stima": "whom she holds in esteem". Glados holding Chell in esteem might be a hidden confession, I think this is the right one.

  • lyrics don't switch between Spanish and Italian, as suggested. The lyrics were intended to be in all Italian, but was put together too fast to properly assess the grammer.

"Que lastima" in Spanish, sounds the same as "Che la stima" which in Italian would most likely mean "Of the greatest esteem" (it doesn't translate to that perfectly, but it is obvious that was the intent.)

  • the king turret is amaziiiiiiiiiiiiiing :O

  • I watched this twice going over both sets of lyrics... then I kept watching it over and over and over.

  • LOL @ the Frankenturret through the window.

  • wen i played this i saw that field and was like: well theres probubly a build- o

    then: companion cube! im sorry

  • Questa canzone, anche se non sembra, dà molte informazioni su Portal. Il testo sarebbe di GLaDOS, ecco, perchè dice "Mia cara bambina"? Vuol dire che Chell è sua figlia, quindi figlia di Caroline?

  • I love this song!!!!

  • Sry but it's totally in italian ;)

  • i reckon all of us want this 1 question solved what happened to Earth during Chells long sleep why when she left she was surrounded everywhere by wheat. i reckon valve should create portal 3 to answer a few questions

  • @werehalk Play Half Life and you'll know

  • @nyy2ss Portal 2 happens way after HL2...so no way of knowing for sure unless HL2 hints to the distant future...

  • me: ohh turret oprea! later me: that was sad 3':

  • I have it nice right now, listening to this and drinking hot tea before bed, nice way to end a day if you ask me. :))

  • I cannot describe how much i love this song. ^_^

  • I get goosebumps listening to this song. So beautiful and sad.

    Fucking goosebumps.

  • penso che sia cielo

  • Based on the lyrics, why do i feel like it could be a secret message from her father saying to stay "away from science", As in why didn't she leave earlier.

  • i even didnt play portal 2 but im watching this,

  • i wish the ground splits in the wheat field and you fall back in :)

  • Anyone else notice that turret in the background with the leopard skin? You see it about 1:00

  • @Chdonga yes, it's the turret wife.

  • @Chdonga No shit. EVERYONE noticed it. Did you notice the singing fat turret? Yes.

  • @TehCreepers Actually considering how far it is in the background, it doesn't look like it's in a leopard skin.

  • @Chdonga: -Facepalm-

  • @Me14986 -Buttslam-

  • After all shell never talks , but she did it, portal 2 its a really awesome games, i just cry when i see this, because i finish portal 1 and with this..

  • Why in the world would you need a turret that big (the green one all the way in the back making the bass)

  • I can totally imagine GLaDos saying something like "Oh hell...there! Take your stupid Companion Cube, you annoying little brat, and then go away..." ;-D

  • portal 2, one of the only games that tells you to fuck off at the end(they even throw the companion cube at you)

  • In italian is: Cara bella, cara mia bella! Mia bambina, o ciel! Che la stimo, che la stimo. O cara mia, addio!

In english is: Dear beautiful, my beautiful darling! My child, oh God (cielo="sky","heaven","God" or maybe is "darling, present of God", it's hard to traslate) Who I admire, who I admire. Oh farewell my dear darling.

  • Look closely at 0:16 If you're quick enough, you can see something zooming past the window...now I don't think it's a Franken-turret, cause they don't move that fast...could it be Rattmann with Chell's Companion Cube?

  • @ShidesuHejjihoggu It's just a tube with a cube in it.

  • anyone noticed the HUGE turret?

    also great song

  • @kostas30000

That was the animal king turret which they said it "overtook the world.

  • @TheBeddu In 1.11 she says "la mia pena"...I'm quite sure

  • Semplicemente stupenda.

  • If you look fast after one of the first chambers when glados is in control. you can see the lead singer in an elevator

  • this is the song i want to here before i die

  • Pour Turret Cube in the background ;o

  • Portal 3 needs to be set outside

  • if youve read the comic: lab rat.. i think chell is Dough Rattmann's addopted daughter.. cause he says stuff like he has feelings towards her or something like that

  • this is the perfect song for the perfect ending for the perfect game! :D

  • @xKennyUp12x

I don't remember this song in shadow of the colossus

  • Some people believe that GLaDOS didn't actually delete Caroline, and that song is from GLaDOS to Chell. GLaDOS /is/ Caroline and the song is basically about a mother singing to a daughter. So it can be possible that Caroline is Chell's adopted mother. :1 It makes sense if you think about it..

  • @eevee98 would a mother try to kill her daughter ? i dont think so :o do you remember the part where cave talked about saving human feelings and thoughts on robots ? i think caroline was just a file on GLaDOS mainframe that could slightly influence the actions of GLaDOS...after deleting this file she was "released" of a mother´s feelings to her daughter and was able to let chell go...the song was possibly something that caroline (or this file) created before getting deleted

  • @Jooshi13 There's more than enough theorying going around that Caroline was never deleted - explains the lines in Want You Gone etc., etc.. And plus, the eighty percent corrupt on GLaDOS (which didn't seem to affect her cognitive ability or functions at all) has to mean something; what if it means how much of her that was Caroline that has changed?

  • @Jooshi13 Awwww...

That would be so sad, so the game would have ended with her mother dieing, and her being free, and then you get a flashback of her mother, but she's dead...

  • The first time i went through this part i saluted the turret king without even realizing it until afterwards.

  • Thanks so much for the translation!!

  • 0:57-1:01 look closely at the middle right backlight thingy. it's rat man with his cube ;-)

  • @TheTrackmaniafreak

Nope. It's a monster. Remember the turret boxed thing?

  • Also did valve.made this for the game or is this an actual song?

  • @REYP6 yes.

  • Something tells me caroll and chell had a maternal relationship I mean why is it that when all the scientists and other testers died she alone was the only survivor? why did GLaD save her in the moon at the end before deleting caroline? Why when p-bot and the other guy existed she didnt set her free? I feel she knew she loved her but she was still a computer so the only way to keep her around was testing...u guys remember the science fair? Bring your DAUGHTER to work day. Just some thoughts.

  • I believe GLaDOS was caroline, in essence, and in virtual personality.

she inherited the properties of caroline.

  • Somebody PLEASE tell me some music that is related to this...

  • Very well done, the right translation at last. I'm italian and i'll tell you, it's impossibile to appreciate these Opera in other language. Too many nuances absolutely untranslatable, no matter how good the translation is. Hope you all will manage to pick the passion and love that Caroline feel for Chell.

  • @FrankB1110 oh fuck off

  • @FrankB1110 I like my Opera in Latin usually...but Italian is just as good! ^__^

  • @ayesha36 concerning that case i mean

  • Ellen McLain is awesome. xD

  • is there a full version of this or was this made for Portal 2 specifically?

  • @PurgatorialJuggrnaut Sadly, its Portal only ;(

  • @gummiosten bummer >.< tnx

  • isnt it ironic how chell ends up in a field of wheat after sending WHEATley to space?

  • @zenny24 Impressive

  • @zenny24 i dont get it?

She is on earth and he is in space (where he is sorry lol)

  • @zenny24 sorry but it's coincidental, not ironic.

  • Bella lingua l'italiano senza quei brutti dialetti!

  • i like that you spend time translating this, its really good.

  • I love that giant Turrent in the background. This makes me giggle everytime I see this ending. Haha, my bf played this having played the first game and was estatically satisfied with this ending. He wants Companion Cube to be his best man.

  • I love that giant Turrent in the background. This makes me giggle everytime I see this ending. Haha, my bf played this having played the first time and was estatically satisfied with this ending. He wants Companion Cube to be his best man.

  • Best ending since RDR. I almost shed a tear.

  • I think that even though GLADOS deleted Caroline that she still fealt sad letting Chell go and this is why the song was sung As to what she does next only one thing comes to mind TESTING! Which also makes me love Glados even more because i think what she did (killing scientists) has now been justified since they wanted to dumb her down and hinder her I also love how she is not after world domination she is happy killing humanity one person at a time.......for science!

  • lol so the cube didnt die (slightly charded of course) so we killed glados for nothing.

  • Theres just one question left: What will she do now?

  • Best END what i saw , Oscar for Valve .)

  • they definetly need to make portal 3..The story can continue if you think about it really hard...I already have a story in my mnd on how Chell can return

  • Goodbye, Chell! We will miss you.

  • I'm so sure Chell is Cave and Caroline's daughter. This song only seems to add to this idea what with the whole "my girl/my dear"

  • what the fuck is that thing at 0:21?

  • @davidaa9392 It looks like one of the crap turrets with a Potato plant, but i may be wrong

  • @davidaa9392

It's Chell's Potato battery project, apparently her potato has grown into the ceilings and beyond; this proves that Chell was actually kidnapped during the bring-your-daughter-to-work day, thus leading us to think she was the daughter of an Aperture employee.

  • @TheBeddu Actually Chell's potato project proves that she is the adopted child of Caroline and Cave. On the back of the posterboard you can see a statement about how she received aid from "daddy's work," next to an Aperture Science logo.

  • @Grxff

By that logic ANY Aperture employee could be her adoptive dad, since "daddy's work" is pretty generic.

And Cave died presumably 20-30 years before the potato project even happened, so it's hardly believable.

  • @TheBeddu It's a theory I can't ignore. Here are the translated lyrics of the opera, suggesting that Chell and Caroline definitely had a maternal relation, possibly including Cave.

Dear beautiful, my darling my lovely baby, in between these tests I estimate my love. Fair well my darling girl. Why not walk far away, go far away from science? Dear my darling, my baby, my beautiful. My dear, my dear, my darling little girl, darling to me!

  • @TheBeddu Yes but Caroline could have been pregnant ;D

  • @TheBeddu Only way to answer this= 3rd sequel- im down

  • @TheBeddu Actually Chell was most likely born around 1980-1983. Cave Johnson died around 1980-1990. So there is still a possibility that Cave was Chell's adopted father. Or better yet, her biological father, meaning she was adopted by someone else later.

  • @TheBeddu what about the idea that just an Aperture employee was her dad?

  • @TheBeddu Chell's full name is Chell Johnson. (Related to Cave Johnson maybe?)

  • @TheBeddu but what is sure BOTH parents were working at aperture during the pre-portal 1 era, because glados said there were two people with the same surname, male and female.

  • @TheBeddu

No! Chell is the child of Caroline and Cave(look at the Picture of Caroline and Cave)!

Caroline looks really like Chell and Caroline is GLaDos, so Chell tried to kill her Mother!

  • @TheBeddu, Still, Caroline is VERY alike with Chell. But yes, GLADoS' takeover was on "Take your daughter to work day", and Cave died before that.

  • @TheBeddu But it seems that GlaDos is able to preserve human life long beyond it's normal years so it is possible she is Cave's daughter.

  • @Grxff Lol this comment is totally retarded, assuming Cave is the only one that can do or get genetic material to make it turn that way...

Same goes for Caroline being her mother, again there is no proof abotu anything like that...

  • @tthething Can you read? Let me make this simple for you. Caroline was programmed into GLaDOS. GLaDOS creates an opera that refers to Chell as her "daughter." Can you explain that? I'm not even saying that Caroline is Chell's biological mother, but that they must've had a maternal relationship.

  • @Grxff You do realize the lyrics aren't clear, and they are assumsions... valve didn't release anything official atm.

  • @Grxff and what, chell has the linguistic capability of an 8 year old?

  • @TheBeddu Are you sure? I mean, I know what you said is true, but to me it looks like the Rat Mans companion cube is passing through the tube at 0:21 and not the potato project.

  • @TheBeddu Whoops, wrong frame. lol

  • Comment removed

  • @TheBeddu chell definetly is not the daughter of an employee. Atleast, she was not apart of the bring your daughter to work day. judging by her placement on the testing subject list before, rattman moved her to number one, chell would have had to have already been in stasis long before the day of glados's activation

  • @StBurkeINC are you an idiot? there is a potato battery project with the name chell in the bottom right corner in the room with bring your daughter to work day projects, and also did you people read the translation of the turret opera?

  • @CueCappa im not the one who thinks that chell, a woman in atleast her mid twenties, would be a child on bring your daughter to work day, which, i might add, happened mere days before chell was brought up for testing. and if you dont think she was a child, why would she participate in such a project at any rate?

  • @StBurkeINC no it didn't happen mere days it happened a few years ago, chell was in a stasis chamber for years, that also explains why she can't remember how to talk

  • @CueCappa stasis being a form of suspended animation as in she would not have aged

  • @StBurkeINC she wasn't in a cryo chamber, stasis is just sleep so yes she would age

  • @CueCappa or not talking is just valve humor ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @davidaa9392 The potatoe is growing and corrupted the ground.

  • Its cool to think that GlaDOS is saying goodbye to her child and telling her to go away from science forever and lice a normal life.

  • It makes me shiver every time!!

  • So sad how they are saying bye and it sucks chell is leaving. :(. This ending was happy in a way and sad in another

  • @L33TGam3r95 I think of it as a kind of epic "you made it through it all, now go home"

  • @DeathnoteBB The thing is, her home is Aperture. It's not "Go home" it's "Every bird must leave the nest some day".

  • @MithranArkanere pft, yeah right, her home is NOT aperture.

  • @DeathnoteBB If your mom is there, and your pops is there, and you as born there, and you died and was cloned countless times there, and lived countless lives there, then there's your home.

The song basically says: "You are my little girl, but it's time for you to go. Leave and live away far from science, my girl"

That's something you said to someone that is leaving home, when your home is a research facility.

  • @DeathnoteBB If your mother 'lives' there and your father lived there, and you were 'born' there countless times because they cloned you there, there, and you lived countless lives there, then your home is there.

The song basically says: "You are my dear little girl, but it's time for you to go. Leave and live away far from science, my dear little girl"

That's something you said to someone that is leaving home, when your home is a scientific research facility.

  • @MithranArkanere I'm pretty sure her mother and father had actual houses, and didn't live there. Also she doesn't "live" there, she's stuck there. And she never did live countless lives there, (chell) because she was never fucking cloned, it's just the damn game mechanic so she doesn't, you know, not get back up so you can continue playing. She has one life and her home IS NOT there.
