  • who wants old smelly phone

  • i hate the break the news to the lady narrating this, but eventually, she does not have that much knowledge about the precious metals market, because if she did, she would clearly know that the price of platinum and palladium is above that of gold.

  • @sr71ablackbird Palladium is cheaper than gold actually. And lately, gold has been a bit more expensive than platinum. Though platinum is almost always the most expensive one.

  • man I got about 5 laying around the house, no use for them now what should I do with them?

  • Then the spartphones came out.

  • Well actually, the most valuable material is my semen

  • @420yendal Your saliva

  • Actually, the most valuable material is hydrogen antimatter atm.

  • This is like crack for my brain

  • 1 cellphone = 1 goldbar

  • 1:23 these phones can be sent to Pakistan....easily!!!

  • Let's go green people!

  • This video doesn't really show how cell phones are recycled, or how the operation works. They just showed cell phone parts and phones in buckets.

  • This video really isn't that informative.

  • The gold you saw them stamping labels on is from Belgium !!!

The company Umicore is the worlds biggest recycling company for metals and it's located in the HOBOKEN district in Antwerp.

I've had a visit there last year where i learnt a lot about this recycling of metals; it's a very interesting deal of work!

  • local jobs hiring careertaker(dot)info copy this short url

  • I like the whole rebuild cell phone concept, It could also be applied to PCs and Laptops, is a more profitable form of recycling, and in a developing country, having access to a cheap and functioning cellphone or computer is a way to diminish the digital divide...

  • @Yanrocama sounds harsh dont u think *take mine too :))

  • now if everyone would just recycle

  • Platinum is still more valuable than gold

  • What happens if i take parts from Samsung Galaxy S II and Iphone 4 and put them together???

  • @llaauurriiss2 Shit... Since both phones are shit

  • I know guys ok my comment is two months old stop replying to it damnit

  • so what, my phone is a fucking like, 397259729th hand one?

  • so next time you buy a phone it can have used parts lol :?

  • LIES ACTUALLY PLATINUM IS WORTH WAY MORE THEN GOLD DUHHHH

  • dud i will be rich if i didnt recycled all those cell phones man

  • you do realize all recycling has a MINNIMUM waste of 10% more net energy used than mining fresh recources?

  • How it works thinks there soooo tuff stacking up cars like that... who do they think they are.... I just soo happen to be here with a car...

  • "The most valuable material is gold" I could've sworn it was platinum

  • @PraetorianL33T i thought the same thing until my grandfather who is electricion explained to me how gold is the best conducter of electricity and is the rarest material, platinum is pretty but for themost part useless and is much more abundant:)

  • @PraetorianL33T im not hating but they probably meant gold is the most valuable metal insidde the phone, and 2 sorry for busting your bubble but platinum is not the most expensive metal (that you can buy).....its rodium at about 2225 (today) and platinium is worth 1815 (today) per ounce

  • @PraetorianL33T Yeah, although they might be referring to the amount of gold to platinum per phone.

  • Comment removed

  • @PraetorianL33T Because there is more gold that platinum and it is more profitable to extract from the phones.

  • @PraetorianL33T this was made in 2007

  • @PraetorianL33T the most valueable material in phones

  • @PraetorianL33T i think its water, but dunno. maybe platinum or gold are good to drink too.

  • @PraetorianL33T The most valuable IN A CELL PHONE. "genius"

  • @PraetorianL33T I think they are talking about the most valuable material in old cellphones. Platinum is certainly worth more than gold but I don't think there's much, if any of it, in a cellphone.

  • @PraetorianL33T Gold prices are higher than platinum prices.

  • @PraetorianL33T it should be platinum

  • @PraetorianL33T i Couldve Sworn it Was Rhodium Smart One!

  • @PraetorianL33T DIAAAMOOOOOOOONDS

  • @Leizazure Diamonds are a mineral.

  • @PraetorianL33T Actually its rhodium

  • @PraetorianL33T what she actully meant is that gold is the most valueable material for the cellphone's circuits cause gold is alot more used than platinum in a cellphone

  • @PraetorianL33T Actually, the most valuable substance is Anti-Matter at the moment.

  • @PraetorianL33T wolfram is more valueble and titanium + plutonium deutonium uranium are all more worth than

gold but gold is and strong marketvalue most businussen have gold as ''bank'' and the fact my list

are most of them radioactive platinum to so it is more worth but there is less demand

  • @PraetorianL33T The most valuable material is platinum? couldve sworn it was rhodium (4900 euros)/ounce

  • @PraetorianL33T I believe it because its more practical in electronics than platinum thus has more value to that industry.....

  • @PraetorianL33T she means out of the materials in the phone...

  • @knuckles0135 but she also says there's platinum in a phone ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @PraetorianL33T I thought it was life

  • @PraetorianL33T well thing is gold is constantly used in the market far more the platinum so thats why they said its more "valuable".

  • @PraetorianL33T she ment inside the phone...

  • @PraetorianL33T it IS platinum. from the medium value ones. From the high value ones, it's the diamond.

  • @PraetorianL33T Well she means that the most valuable material used in phones is gold, because they don't use platinum or any higher materials for them :D

  • @PraetorianL33T Actually, it is gold. Check the prices..

  • @PraetorianL33T Actually no. There are so many materials that are much more expensive than platinum or gold.

  • @PraetorianL33T False, Gold costs more than Platinum, and is used as a currency rather than an industrial metal.

  • @PraetorianL33T its gold now.....

  • @PraetorianL33T the most valuable material is uranium

  • @PraetorianL33T Actually, I believe its Rhodium.

  • @PraetorianL33T

I think what she mean is gold is the most valuable material you can find in your phone right?

  • @PraetorianL33T Nope, it's gold.

  • @PraetorianL33T not any more hahahaha

  • @gman586 FYI, old quarry are used for landfill as it saves on the escavation costs

  • The buy-back program works for high value items or for those where the OEM is known and still exists, but it might be a little bit more challenging where this is not the case. Ultimately, though, the OEM knows the most about their product and there should be incentives to get the OEM to buy back or take back their old product for proper recycling.

  • To give a few examples, Boeing buys back old airliners, turns them into freighters, and sells them to air freight lines. All parties "win" in some way because the old plane is removed, a deposit is given for the old plane, a freight line gets a refurbished plane, Boeing gets more work and gets an order for a new airliner and maintains customer loyalty.

  • Ultimately, the best means for recycling of consumer products is for the dealer or original manufacturer to take back the old, used item from the customer and appropriately recycle the used item. The OEM built the product, knows what's in it (i.e. hazardous materials), and probably knows best how to recycle or re-purpose the materials. Some companies already do this, as a buy-back program, but others could be encouraged to do so. It works out for both the company and the consumer.

  • Keep in mind that these elements are TRACE elements. The percentage of gold in a cellphone relative to its total weight is less than 1%.. much less than 1%. It takes thousands of phones to make a gold bar - this video is really misleading as far as the value of phones is concerned.

  • soo ... when will we see how they do it ? so i can make use of the materials to maintain my wealth for the days to come

  • why they want we to donate/recycle? Why they dont pay for us to give them the trash? This is just shit talk to make them increase their profit.

  • Rebuilding phones??? Never work.. They introduce a new phone every month. Nobody wants an old phone. Would you use a phone from 2001 when theres a 5 mega pixel phone that also turns on your dishwasher? Companies dont want u to use old phones. Thats y they come out with cheap new ones all the time so you have to upgrade.. Fuck cell phone companies..

  • In Australia selliphone com au offers the great buy-back prices for apple iPhones, iPads, iPods and MacBooks , we are committed in keeping our planet safe and green, while rewarding customers for recycling

  • at 1:00 she says thats equivelent to 35 cars stacked on top of eachother thats 38 cars right there -.-

  • Were is my money for my phone!!!!

  • Recycle For The Planet Earth :)

  • who wants some old ass phone, lady?

  • its old crap throw it in the fire. and this is not a joke. if you burn a shitload of old cellphones and maby a few tires to help it burn hoter. cool it down aster and go thre it with a bagnet then go threw it and gather the rest and you will have a mixure of mixed prushus metals you can then sell to a refiner for lots of cash. this dus work.

  • Save yourself a shit-load of scrounging and just buy your metal from KB Team One, We Rock!

  • How can today's methods of strip mining generate 75 tons of toxic waste per 1 ounce of gold? A decent yield for gold is maybe 1 ounce per 3 tons of ore. If a business had a yield of 1ounce per 75 tons of ore, they would be out of business. And dirt is the bi-product....non-toxic.

  • Actually the majority of the old phones is sent to China by the very same companies that give you a price reduction on your new phone when you hand in your old one. In China, the valuable metals are melted of the circuit boards by workers who are poorly payed and get sick of the unhealthy work. What is left of the phones gets dumped in the chinese landscape. Check Norwegian documentary "Connecting People".

  • She's saying that the most valuable material in a CELL PHONE is gold.

  • You can also give the cell phones and / or chargers to battered women shelters and the give them to the women so they can call 911.

Call your battered woman shelter and ask. They will take them.

Or call 1-800-799-SAFE and ask them.

  • @fourteenKnuckels Holy shit, I thought you were joking with that title "Battered women shelter" but then I looked it up. God damn what straight forward name.

  • Why do the cars have to be stacked on top of eachother?

  • @jlo1520 I know right :/

  • @jlo1520 so they can get more in more scrap more money

  • @jlo1520

to make them easier to count for the documentors

  • @jlo1520 It weighs more when stacked.

  • @jlo1520 to transform obvi

  • @jlo1520 saves space

  • aww cute kittys

  • recycling....white peoples term for "make me rich along with my Japanese business partners" oh and dont forget to buy a Prius !! wake up sheeple!

  • screw that ill take the gold platinum and copper for myself ; I

  • im stiping off the gols of broken cell phones i find from the floor :P

  • Clearly misleading. There is no process at any cost that can completely recycle a phone into its constituent materials and reprocess them back into a phone.

  • the one thing i dont like is that you recycle your phone and yet they make the profit of the gold and platinum and you dont get any thing back

  • She says the most valuable metal is gold because there is more gold then platinum in a cell phone

  • hey someone please help i have a motorolla razor is it worth it to tear it apart for platinum and gold?

  • Yes of course, grims right, platinum is much more valuable currently to gold.

  • mobile monopoly for $30 contact me

  • loll she tell how it is to colect gold and then she change subject and say they refurbish new cell phone by using old part but she dont say what appened to the rest of the phone loll like broken screen the circuit board it self lol he is what .. recycle or just trow ro melt to get gold and platinum .. anyways that video suck hahaah

  • OMG rebuild a phone is she for real????

  • @isantimn its not that hard lol :P im 16 i build computers for fun :>

  • The reason she said gold is more valuble in phones than platinum, is because there is more of it.

And if any of you people actually payed any attention in chemistry lessons, you will know that gold is extremely unreactive, therefore you can tip connection points with it so it doesnt react, which means your phone will last for longer.

And for those who say it is a waste of money, for your information, gold is a very rare substance, if we throw it all away, we will run out

  • never mind the rediculas amount of hazzardous waste from cleaning 1 gram of gold off of 1000 cell phones. also platinum has pretty much always been more valuible then gold.

  • thx for the speech help!:)

  • What's gold doing on a divice? Anyone.

  • @Wesley95501 I know it's also used a lot on satellites, but I don't know why. It must conduct well, or insulate well, or something, better than any other metal. I'm sure they wouldn't use it if they didn't have to. :)

  • @Wesley95501 Gold does not corrode. It is used in all sorts of circuit boards and contacts and cables. Computers, IDE cables, USB cables, perhaps DVD players and TVs as well.

  • Wait a sec, thier is a gold in a phone?

  • OMG phones

  • Irony how the guy fixing the phone has a gold ring and a gold watch.

  • poor cell phones and home phones i would just take them all

  • no....i do not wonder what happens to fuckin cell phones

  • the toxic gas givin off by smelting the boards will kill us all, thats why the dirty work is done outside the USA, no EPA to enforce the laws

  • Haha @TheGrimsReaper. Either way dude, we need to recycle it. Both are worth more than enough to motivate me to recycle.

  • It's good to see a video that shows the importance and usefulness of recycling cell phones. This is just one of the reasons why the non-profit Recycling for Food exists.

  • Profiting and recycling materials is a win win situation.

  • @LetFreedomRlng For who?

  • Used Cell Phone/PDA Recycling -The Biggest UNKNOWN Business Opportunity:

    hotshorturl(DOT)com/abj99

  • Why do the cars have to be "stacked on top of one another"?

    LMAO!!!

  • 1:05 she says 35 cars but on the screen they show 38 cars lol rofl. Do they get anythign right?

  • they probally clean anything that shouldnt be there of the parts that would carry that stuff

  • :O what if the phone was turned in as used by a person with a multi-drug resistant strain of Hep-A? Gets torn down, made into 10 new re-built phones... would you want to give that re-built to your darling child on their 12th birthday?

  • @KeeperOfTheGood Hepatitis and other viruses cannot survive out of the host organism for long time.

  • That's why they want you to recycle stuff. For profit, not for the environment. Didn't you get it yet?

  • Getting a profit and while helping the environment is a win for everyone!

  • @garagecrap Exactly. Also, If there are such gains from recycling a phone, why offer me £6 for it if a new one can be made from the parts and then re sold for £100? I'd rather throw it in the bin thanks

  • @garagecrap to take out the gold is a very toxic procces and you nead like 1000 cell phones for just a 1gr of gold is not easy and it cost alot of money. and you dont get GOLD hehehe

  • @garagecrap

Money and a good environment, everyone's a winner.

  • @garagecrap Exactly, its sad, but at least we get around the enviroment issue.

  • @garagecrap then they dump it in other countries! hurray!

  • @garagecrap WOW... really? You're right and you'd benefit so much if you stopped recycling... glass, aluminium, paper, metal, plastic etc. would be more expensive and you could buy all he stuff you do today for twice the cost!!! Genius, lets everyone stop recycling and keep those greedy people away from their filthy money!

  • @garagecrap, ya gee we can't have someone making a profit out of recycling can we!!! this evil profiteering has divered how many phones from land fill?

I'd like to know how much you do personly to divert toxic material from land fill !

    Idiot

  • @1BustedMyth Really? How many phones it takes to equal one printer or stereo system or DVD player or PC monitor just as a small example? These never get recycled. And what I do for environment? I chuck all this crap in to a garbage just like you and everyone else does. So scrape your little brain out of the toiled and use it!

  • @garagecrap, Actualy fucktard you don't speak for me at all and you couldn't be more wrong!

Man are you stupid or what! "How many phones equals a printer" WTF!!! are you serious?

The scrap in a non working phone is worth over US$25, more if it works and more again if its a large phone with more processing power eg: iPhones etc. A broken printer is worth $0 in the west and around $1 in the third world, excluding the price of the non renewable oil used in the plastic.

    Moron!

  • @1BustedMyth I'm talking about recycling for environment not about making money. What good is recycling one tiny phone compare to a printer. Nothing. Get it retard?! Fuck off.

  • @garagecrap, Oh I'm sorry but but you seem to have missed the part where I just threw your bullshit claims back in your face!

Um right, so your saying that a factory with employees, a power bill, phones, water, insurance, rent, company cars, office equipment, internet connection, frieght, advertising costs etc etc, should be doing it for free so that fucktards like you can make a bullshit claim and not be brought back to reality by someone with a brain!

Ouch! sorry what were you saying?

  • @garagecrap It still helps

  • i just sold my gold teeth and bought brass ones and then a shit my pants

  • Platinum is currently still about 25% more valuable than gold.

  • lol wtf lady... she says that theres gold and platinum in phones, but that gold is more valuable, last I checked, platinum is about $100 more than gold per troy ounce.

  • Probably meant the amount of gold in the phone is worth more than the platinum it contains.

  • Yeah pretty much, what was the value in 2007 though (when the vid was uploaded)? I remember before the new millennium, platinum was pretty low wasn't it?

  • there are many metals in each phone. But just few mg :)

  • gold is now at a all time high higher than platinum but when she did this video it wasnt so yh the lady is a douche

  • Yeah platinum maybe more valuable by the Troy ounce. However, She probably means that there's more GOLD in the phone than Platinum,

  • Well I think she's means cause there's more of it to get out of per phone so there's more money in gold because there's more of it

  • @TheGrimsReaper

You are confusing value with price. A high price does not necessarily equal a high value. If you were starving a sandwich would be more valuable to you than an ounce of gold.

  • @TheGrimsReaper yo valuable for the phone

  • @TheGrimsReaper what is a troy ounce?

  • @TheGrimsReaper Gold and platinum is not expensive like you're making it out, nothing uses pure gold, it's too maliable, and for platinum that's just doesn't need an answer because you can buy pure platinum blocks for less than 100 dollars.

  • @TheGrimsReaper to take out the gold is a very toxic procces and you nead like 1000 cell phones for just a 1gr of gold is not easy and it cost alot of money. and you dont get GOLD hehehe

  • @TheGrimsReaper

How the hell did I get the highest rated comment o
