Tilman Hoppstock: de Visée: Sarabande, Bourree, Gigue

De Visée on the classical guitar is a stylistic challenge, and there are habits too that seem difficult to change. But not for Tilman Hoppstock, who has obviously gone beyond the usual old-time transcriptions, is very well documented and thus offers quite an advanced interpretation, far beyond what I have already heard.

solid. That's some of the best De Visee i've ever heard, since I usually only hear students playing it. Very nice stuff.

Despite the poor sound recording this is an extraordinary good performance. Inventive ornementation, unequal notes, controlled fluctuating tempo, impeccable guitar pratical serve a subtle and brilliant discourse full of feelings.

The basic trills are probably in de Viseé's original, but the fancy runs are his own additions

I am just so thankful for YouTube. I've been a fan of Tilman Hoppstock for years, but, living in a small town in Wisconsin, would not likely ever get to see him perform.

Man soll sich ja nicht über Geschmack streiten, aber von Visée hat sich diese Interpretation zumindest extrem weit entfernt, wenn man die heutigen Erkenntnisse zur Aufführungspraxis seiner Musik berücksichtigt. Ich kann mir durchaus vorstellen, dass die Interpretation Anhänger findet, obwohl die schwer zu begründende Überfrachtung mit stilfremden Verzierungseffekten es sehr erschwert, die genial Struktur dieser Meisterwerke zu genießen.
