Until the Fed stops depressing interest rates home values will never make sense. Home property values are inflated because of the Fed. Hank Paulson is on to cap and trade big money now with Al gore. The only way to correct home values is for ordinary people to make reasonable offers on 20 different homes until you get a good price. This time, though, the government - in their effort to make home ownership a human right - offered the banks the carrot to make these bad loans to people who couldn't afford them. The banks WERE being regulated already. "Evil bankers" can't just make up their own loans willy-nilly. It's the people who were doing the regulating that were the problem.

So you need to pay your neighbor's mortgage so the value of your house won't go down? What Gibbs doesn't tell you is it's the govt's fault that neighbor got a $750K mortgage even though he has 5 kids and works at Home Depot. Now neighbor is behind in his mortgage because they like to buy food and keep the electricity on. OWNING a home is not a "right". They can still rent, and these people wouldn't be homeless. Until the Fed stops depressing interest rates home values will never make sense. Home property values are inflated because of the Fed. Hank Paulson is on to cap and trade big money now with Al gore. The only way to correct home values is for ordinary people to make reasonable offers on 20 different homes until you get a good price. And for the fed to raise interest rates to stop inflating money and to force banks to make loans to worthy borrowers. In short , more conservatism.

I'll gladly take a hit on my home value rather than enable those that can't afford to live in my neighborhood in the first place. Common sense dictates that they are the ones that will allow their property to slip into disrepair, thus lowering the neighborhood values regardless. I feel for them, I really do. Just live within your means. My wife and I rented for ten years until the time was right and we were able to buy.
