  • PHENOMENAL.

  • When did Dwight Shrute stop selling paper and pick up a guitar? Bears, Beets, Ben Gibbard.

  • Gnar

  • The best thing about Death Cab is that they aren't just 'performers' like most pop stars these days, instead they are true musicians who love their craft. They passion and talent bleeds out from them when they play live (I've seen them twice). I got goosebumps both times I saw them play and I'm getting them now just thinking about it. They represent Washington well.

  • my grandfather designed the bixby canyon bridge. i was there yesterday with all of my friends and they put this song on. It was an amazing experience.

thank you death cab, for making such an amazing song :)

  • These guys are a band, and they are art. The fact that anyone has heard of them is a miracle within itself. Reminds me of U2 and Radiohead, and a few others. Hold the torch high for those of us bastards that must play, Margarita ville, and Brown eyed girl.

  • Dont listen to the words, listen to the emotions they leave in your heart

  • DAT EBOW

  • i wanna see them live!!

  • I had no idea they would sound this amazing live.

  • The only Hipsters I can stand! Just saw em live it was awesome!

  • @mooseknuckles1015 they aren't hipsters you idiot

  • fucking drummer...

  • I want a god damn E-bow now

  • I can't believe I used to dislike this band. So glad I finally came around.

  • 2:05

Has anyone else noticed that Chris' mic is muted?

  • i drove across this bridge recently :]

  • why do i always have tears in my eyes every time i hear the intro? i love death cab way too much....

  • oh god i love them

  • 1:41 - 1:42 that is a really great view of Chris xD and is it me, or are his yes green? if they are, then they look really great there too ^^

  • the noises made 4:40 and on are breath taking

  • youtube.com/watch?v=7BiE6-TvjGY My band's cover of this song!

  • 0:39 Clifford?!?!?!

  • This band is just amazing . you´re not listening to their music .. you feel it .. you love it and you you live through it !

    Like i said ... they´re amazing♥

  • See, they sound good in person too. I love them :)

  • @flyingmagickat seriously?!?!?

  • Nick Harmer has to be one of my favorite bassist ever. Just look at the power stance!

  • @catsaretheshit it's like Gimli the Metronome has entered the studio.

  • this is the first version of my first song from death cab i've ever heard.

  • this won't sound how i want it to but the end of the song is the best part

  • Jason Mcgerr and Chris Wala replied to my Facebook post :D

  • what is he holding in his hand on 3:03?

  • @S4LsiCh4 ebow

  • The story of this song is really what makes it special to me... The general theme is that Ben Gibbard went on a small pilgrimage following the footsteps of Jack Kerouac. The goal of the pilgrimage is to gain enlightenment ala Buddhism via the same path that Jack Kerouac gained his enlightenment. When Ben got to the final step of his pilgrimage and stood under the Bixby Canyon Bridge he was disappointed to find that he gained no enlightenment from it. Moral of the story=follow your own path.

  • What's Gibbard holding at 3:02?

  • @tgells12 Ebow. You can get awesome, sustained tones with that thing.

  • @tgells12 It's a type of sustainer, it vibrates the strings to keep them ringing.

  • Dwight Schrute is the frontman for dcfc?!!?!? :P

  • everytim I hear this song I think: aah now narrow stairs on my playlist, this gonna be a good day :)

  • completely epic.

  • I said it once and ill say it again... I'd give my left nut to jam with them

  • I love the way it ends, and the lyrics are great

  • What I love about DCFC is they sound the same live as they do on the studio album. I cannot say that about many bands. Also, DCFC is true to their roots. They arent about going big and mainstream, they are in it for the music. I cannot wait until their next album.

  • perfect opening for an album

  • gotta love the camera guy just squatting above the bass rigs

  • What is that in his hand he uses at the guitar solo?

  • Comment removed

  • @eliwamo It's called an E-Bow, it vibrates the string

  • @AFaceHead Never seen one before. And it's used much cleaner in the album version. Meaning that it must be difficult to use, because Ben/DC4C are very good at nailing live performances.

  • good heavens. best. band. ever.

  • Seeing them May 25th. Most excited I've been for a concert possibly ever.

  • @HHNMovies jealous...bring me!!!!

  • @HHNMovies Im seeing them the 27th! where do you live?

  • @ostelsker1 Alberta

  • They sound so good live! :O

  • @TherapyWithWyatt its not autotune its just fx

  • My Favorite Song! SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOOD!

  • great live version!!!

  • God...I want that Starcaster.

  • I hate you Denice! This is so sad!!

  • I always think they sound better live, unlike most bands. It's awesome watching them play.

  • Jason mcgerr is genius!

Along with Ben, Chris, nd nick

    BEFORE twilight!!! -.-

  • @TheMoek1 They were pretty fucking awesome after it too. AMIRITE OR AMIRITE?

  • ben looks weird without sideburns :/ gotta love that smexy beast though xD

  • Comment removed

  • lol Chris looks like he was falling over.

  • What is he using on his guitar i cant find that accessory or nonpedal thing haha idk.

  • @checkerdshoes21 he is using an e-bow

  • that drummer is the tits

  • bass player looks like allen from the hang over

  • Zack Galifinafkis plays bass for Death Cab!??!?!?!?!?! :PP

  • @slinger3456 Lol at first I was fuck no then I saw 2:20 was like whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat he's right!

  • @slinger3456 HA but no, he is sam beam from iron and wine. ;>)

  • @slinger3456 and dwight schrute is the lead singer for death cab!

  • @slinger3456 My girlfriend said the same thing at the Greek! LMAO!

  • dcfc has a monopoly on good music.

  • Sounds a little like U2 and Phil Collins

  • ....'cause I've still got miles to go.

  • Chills every time at 0:36...

  • their music is so interesting. the strange melodies and the way each guitarist compliments each others' notes is simply beautiful. then jason on set is amazing and gives the perfect element to each song. bass lines are also brilliant. best band ever.

  • This is probably one of very few bands that I'd actually love to buy a live album from. They're very good live!

Ahhh, I love Death Cab.. :)

  • the drum parts are always so amazing..imo the drum and bass make this band..oh and the incredible vocals

  • non-singing guitarist with beard is killing it (in a good way)

  • @01100111000 hes what you call a bassist... and yes he does kill it hahaha

  • Incedibly powerful. The ending was so clean.

  • @ScaredPiglet get out the fuck out of here

  • I love DC. Does anyone have any other band recommendations? I rec. the Weakerthans.

  • @Ryguy1450 portugal the man, search for "mornings acoustic"

not really similar but they are one of my favorites along with deathcab so who knows you may dig them. and I'll check out the weakerthans

  • @Ryguy1450 Elliott Smith, smiths, cure, depeche, sufjan stevens, cat power

  • @Ryguy1450 The postal Service, :p

  • @googoo120 i shall like this comment 1000000000000000000000x's

  • 2:24 i see a DL4 and what looks like a box of rock, anyone else spot the pedal hes using for the outro riff?

  • @thmsrojo the video for "i will posses your heart" has a pretty good shot of his board, the only other things i can make out though are a boss reverb pedal (probably an rv-5) and some boss dd-3 delays

  • @TacooGrill Thanks!

  • I jizzed a little.

  • the bassist kinda looks like allen from the hangover but with shorter hair

  • I can't find a single song from DCFC that doesn't hit me. Love it<3

  • 2:18 ... relax zach gilifianakis

  • fucking awesome

  • @LoneLawMan dude but come on you can do better than me was horrible. definitely not death cab. narrow stairs has grown on me but its nothing like transatlanticism, plans, the photo album, or we have the facts.

  • Their bassist is friggin' awesome! Just sayin'.

  • as much as At least thats what you said by Wilco is Jeff Tweedy's jam, I think that this is Ben's jam.

  • Death cab is a part of the Anti auto-tune movement. xD

  • @Jem7Vellz saying that any sound/effect in music should never be used is a very ignorant statement.

  • @Jem7Vellz Yeah real singers dont need that shit.

  • Superb!!

  • This song saved my life. Death Cab will always have a very special place in my heart. This is the reason I'm here.

  • lol, in the beginning theyre all waddling their heads to that guitar sound, looks like theyre on an acid trip :P by the way, i like how they are like rockin out and jammin hard in this song... i like their simple laid back yet artistic sound... but heck, every musician wants to jam out like a rock star at some point... :P

  • best song the new album. sadly there arent a ton of good songs on the new one :( but this one is incredible

  • ben gibbard reminds of me a little kid experimenting with his guitar in his parents garage, but yet it is still musical and brilliant

  • @134679bg it is an e-bow, I have one and it is awesome

  • BBBBeautifulllllllllllll...... thanks for posting !!

  • who ever doesn't like this is a jackass

  • epic epic song from a epic album and band :-)

  • текст хорош, музыка волшебна )"=

  • love...love...love this song

  • thts just inspired me big time!

  • Such a great band. They are so tight. Chemistry boys, chemistry I say...

  • 2:25

  • what eq settings should I use to get a chris walla kinda sound..I know it's a stupid question.

  • @bobert995 sounds impossible to replicate

  • If you go to the DCFC website, it says the gear they use. Walla doesn't use a Boss Pedal for all that reverb and delay he has going, but if you use the Boss RV-3 or RV-5, you can TOTALLY imitate this perfectly. I was playing around with it, and the intro sounds so awesome!

PS: This is the best band in the world... God's gift to music!

  • i love this song.

  • this sounds really muddy. love the song and whatever though.

  • The bassist looks like he could be related to zach galafinakos lol. My fav song by them.

  • hahah. 2:06 Chris Walla's harmony is so bad they had to cut it out.

  • hahah i never noticed that - class

  • whats that thing ben uses on his guitar near the middle of the song?? that black thing?

  • @134679bg I'm pretty certain it's an e-bow.

  • @134679bg Pretty sure that's an Ebow.

  • Comment removed

  • What kind of cymbals is he using? It doesn't look like the twenty series.

    Anyone?

  • at 0.45 it sound like "grabbed some scones from underneath" lmfao. this made my day.

  • @hypolittleskittle07

Hahaha! Yes, It really does! That's so funny.

    You just made my day!

  • Is Ben using an E-bow? During the "dreeeeaaaaam" part?

  • yeah

  • these guys just look like the most chill people ever

  • they are soooo awesome...and chill

  • enamored.

  • Amazing up close and personal look at a band that matters!

  • my fav band from a ways back :)

  • Death cab made my life complete

  • a band with emotion in their music. hot damn.

  • I agree. I think all of the songs from this set are better than their album versions. Which are amazing to begin with.

  • Fender Starcaster from the 70's.

  • What the heck kinda guitar is Walla playing?!

It is like a cross between a Strat and and ES335!!! I like it, but what is it?

  • @RunningOvation

    Probably a Fender Starcaster

  • Acabo de descubrir esta banda y me parece extraordinaria

  • Amazing! Great song live. The bass is sick....Ben's guitar sounds a little overpowering in the beginning.

  • Is that a Ebow he's playing with?

  • @GodsentHellraiser At about 2:50, yeah, that's an Ebow.

  • @GodsentHellraiser... It should have been

  • love this song/album :-)

  • this song is about ben gibbard going to a cabin in a town called Big Sur, California... this is where he went to write most of the songs for narrow stairs... he thinks of the album as a descent "i descended a dusty gravel ridge"... anyways he wrote this song mainly about trying to communicate or connect with his idol Jack Kerouac... but as the song expresses, he didn't truly feel anything at all it was all him... idk i love this song and what it expresses

  • that's pretty fuckin cool

  • @ForestTheAmorous thanks for the info been wondering myself great song

  • @dcat11114u no problem i actually read it in an indie music mag, it was really cool =)

  • Ben Gibbard looks a lot light Dwight Schrute.

What if they're the same person? O.O

  • HAHAHAH this comment made my day a little bit brighter

  • this song is brutally honest... searching for meaning, not finding it, and becoming more disillusioned the more you look...

  • Anyone know if Nick is playing an American Standard Jazz Bass? Not too great at identifying individual basses within brands...

  • he's playing a Lakland Bob Glaub series i believe

  • no, looks like a standard p bass

  • god, I love his glasses...
