My parents still have this really old computer from around 2000 and I simply play Tyrian 2000 without any sort of version of Dosbox or nothing.

The music sounds beyond amazing on that old computer. I wish I could record it!

i have dosbox and i downloaded a legit version of this game but setup wont run, saying it doesnt allow fullscreen or something. any ideas on what i should do?

I've never seen this error before. On every computer that I've run Tyrian 2000 on using DOSBox, everything works fine.

Did you get your copy of the game from the Tyrian Repository? That is the one I have.

The DOSBOX gives illegal command when I try to type SETUP or TYRIAN

Did you mount your Tyrian 2000 folder? You have to mount it onto a drive letter, then switch to that drive letter before typing SETUP or TYRIAN, so if your Tyrian 2000 folder is C:\TYRIAN, type "mount c C:\TYRIAN" first, then "C:", and then either "SETUP" or "TYRIAN".

The Zica Flamethrowers are short-ranged but extremely damaging.

The Atom Bombs are good, but they consume ammunition. I don't particularly like ammunition equipment because their reload time is a bit long.

It's a shame I couldn't get the sound working... the best I could accomlish was midi music, but that's sooo far from this. Is there anything to do about it besides the setup file of the game?

Gawd, Tyrian has one of the best BGM soundtracks I've ever heard. Up there with MechWarrior 2 and Perfect Dark.

I agree. I especially like START5, which is used in levels like BUBBLES, the first WINDY and STARGATE, and A Field for Mag, which is used in CORAL and one of the after-episode minigames. Return me to Savara also sounds pretty good when looped.

even with DOSBox, it doesn't work in vista. all it does is say: "Usage MOUNT Drive-Letter Local-Directory". the next line says: "So a MOUNT c c:/windows mounts windows directory as the c: drive in DOSBox". WTF does that mean???

You have to type in "mount c", without the quotes, followed by a space, followed by the path to the folder where your copy of Tyrian 2000 is installed, so if you have Tyrian 2000 installed in C:\TYRIAN, you type "mount c C:\TYRIAN". Then, to set the game's settings, type "SETUP". To run the game, type "TYRIAN" or "file0001".

BTW, now I got the SDF, I made my mind about the best weapon combination in the game...I'll upload a video later with it.

I agree, actually. Flare is a nice special ability, but after getting the SDF Main Gun, you probably won't use anything else.

Speaking of which...try using the Laser or Zica Laser with the SDF Main Gun. These, I think, are the two most powerful frontal combinations possible.

Laser in you main gun is absolutely unbeatable..use it with Sonic Wave and Zica Superchargers and you simply can't lose=P

The only problem with using the SDF Main Gun with the Laser is that you can't keep firing the Laser in a continuous stream.

Until now, I still don't know how to get the Banana weapons in Singleplayer Story mode...

I loaded this game I had from a long time ago, to the last level of Ep.5 (Fruit)...after that, u get to play the story from scratch, BUT...with the Supercarrot spaceship and the banana front and rear weapons (sidekicks, shield and generator maintain)

BTW, what's that SDF you're talking about? I don't get it (sorry for the ignorance)

The SDF Main Gun is that obscenely wide laser that pierces through everything. You can only find it near the end of ICESECRET, I think.

Concerning your SuperCarrot...it coincides with some stuff I read many months ago. It seems that whenever you complete the game, you have a 1 in 6 chane of getting your ship and weapons turned into fruit.

You are quite a lucky person to get that. :)

However, I played the Tyrian demo back in 97 and it looped, meaning that once you finished the episode (it only contained the first one) you'd get to play it all over again with the same weapons, which I was hoping to do with the full game.. so I kinda dislike getting my ship turned into a carrot and my level 11 laser turned into a banana cannon xD

Guess I never came across the SDF then...gotta check that out

I've got vista, I can dowload Tyrian, but I've got no idea what to do from there. I can download Dos Box aswell. Can you help me plz plz plz???

- Firstly, you must extract the game files somewhere in your pc. I keep mine in C:\oldgames\tyrian2k, but you can extract 'em in whatever place you feel like.

- Open DosBOX and a Command Prompt window will pop up with some information. Type:

mount c [insert here the complete adress of the game folder]

for example: mount c c:\oldgames\tyrian2k

- Press enter

- Now type c: and press enter to change to Drive C.

- Now just type the command "tyrian" (without the quotation marks) and press enter.

Try running Tyrian's setup file, it's possible that the sound settings are wrong. The sound worked fine for me by setting up Soundblaster as the music device.
