This is the best Live Cream song ever. I've known that since I was 16 when I was running wild with this on my Walkman constantly. I owe Cream so much.
Eric Clapton is arguably one of the greatest talents ever but if anyone knows a drummer who played with such a unique style as Ginger Baker, let me know.
I agree with you: rock music will NEVER sound like this again. There is no real forum for bands to take chances; taking chances is almost discouraged. They did listen to each other amazingly well. A lot like free-jazz, where they focus on the wavelength of the whole.

It was this song and album that convinced me how easy it is to put together a band. I could just picture their first meeting: "We won't even have to rehearse! All we have to do is bash out some chords and yell on top for three minutes, then do some endless hypnotic (aka mind-numbing) solos. These hippies will listen to anything as long as it's loud!"
Yeah, it gets addictive playing them, and a good part of the audience will enjoy it. I like what Clapton said about it where once he stopped playing and the other two didn't notice. Maybe he took that as a sign it was over...
Cream the band that originated long improvised jamming.

Why doesn't rock music sound like this now? It seems bands are happy to make the same album year after year and treat it like an ongoing career.
Bring back the days when a group would release 2 or 3 awesome records then split up - for good.

This creative improvisational interactive musical magic will never happen again.Their free-form style taught me to listen, contribute
and be sensitve to the whole balance of whats in the moment.
Playing on the edge was their high.Every night was a new adventure! Beautiful!

To find diamonds one must dig through tons of rock.

Indeed... that's a good one to use to define rock music - the
searching for the diamonds within the rock.

But the long solos didn't come until much later.
