  • 你们真风了 :)

  • Dude. . . I met these girls at Merlefest. The banjo player and singer, Abigail Washburn, speaks Chinese, and one day they were jamming and playing this (in English, of course) and she just randomly starts singing it in Chinese. Then, this amazing video was born. I love Uncle Earl!

  • I'm so confused

  • How come I cannot keep my foot still, lol?

  • What is this from? Crazy fun. Very entertaining. Much talent. Where is this from? A lot of production went into this.

  • Loro sono pazzi...

    Che buffone, ehi?

  • This is one of the weirdest videos I've ever seen.

  • Stay off the spicy stuff. You'll get some really weird dreams.

  • @codeaires More like this is one of the BEST videos I've ever seen!

  • @codeaires Primus and The Residents would like a word.

  • @Potidaon Familiar with both bands; as a matter of fact I'm a huge fan of Primus. However, this video is still delightfully weird as fuck ;)

  • It's hard to get enough of this video, and it's hilarious every time.. the guy on skates is awesome..

  • I can't get enough of this. I've watched it a dozen times already!

  • That was freakin hilariously awesome.

  • The best cloggers ARE in North Carolina (as someone previously said...) love the video, but miss Uncle Earl. I have their cd's, and never get tired of them.

  • KC! So awesome!

  • Way cool, ladies! Great choreography.

  • This video is brilliant! I love it!

It has great dancing, great irony, fun & music!

  • This video makes no sense!

  • Lisa, It's "tongue-in-cheek" fun. The ridiculous taken to the sublime.

  • Was Chemical Brother's "Just Get Yourself High" on T.V. at the begining?

  • Horrible lip synching, great everything else.

  • @112550349 The lip synch is suposed to be off. A poke at badly dubbed martial arts movies.

  • I too love this video - love the music as well - and would love to do this group dancing. Is it Irish Set Dancing? Anything like this in Los Angeles?

  • Nope, the one dressed as an Irish dancer is doing step dance. (My daughter is an Irish Dancer). This appears to be American Clogging which did derive from step dancing but is quite different in a lot of respects.

  • There are a few Clogging groups around Los Angeles, and in Ventura County. But the best are in North Carolina! lol.

  • I believe that's "clogging".

  • I LOVE this! Is that Nic Gariess dancing?

  • LOL @ chef Casey Driessen...

Not sure I'd trust him with a meat cleaver...

  • I love the tune and I love Uncle Earl, but that was really a mess.

  • I never get tired of watching this, always see something new! I would love to know how the idea came about, how it was filmed, etc.

  • WOW

    not your every day video...

  • I love this video

  • My kind of liberated women. Oh, yeah!

  • I just found them on Link Tv and I'm glad I found them on Youtube! =D

  • huh?!?!?

  • 3:18 = money shot!

  • Im confused......

  • Now ya don't see something like THAT every day.

  • L O L

  • I'm still laughing... I love Abigail Washburn, love this song. And this vid is hilarious. :)

  • what. the. fuck.

  • Okay, I've watched it about 18 times, and I still love it!

  • That is so bizare! I love it!

  • "The houses of the Holly" was my favorite Zep album. Didn't John Paul do a lot of the cool stuff on that album? I am glad he's doing something interesting.

  • the video is corny, but the music is fantastic!! go rayna!

  • Wow, I love Abigail Washburn to pieces but this is retarded.

  • The g'Earls deliver the REAL clogging goods.

  • go maureen!

  • favorite music video EVER

  • If you like the cloggers in this video, sole impact is coming to the Wheatland Music Festival in Remus Michigan Sept 5-7th!!! Check it out!

  • It's "Seven River Dancers for Seven Country Squares"...the Chinese version!

Where's Russ Tamblyn when you need him...

  • This is so good I have to keep watching it over and over. LOVE THE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS OF THE BAND

  • The side-by-side wagon wheels (whirling lower right leg) are a cool touch.

  • Ha ha, I went looking to see if Rayna had any performances on here, and found this. This is FIVE DEGREES OF AWESOME (four of which are the very fine fiddling).

  • It is very cool that Abigail Washburn has a Chinese influence on her music. It makes it all the more interesting to listen to.

  • OK Rayna, we know you're out there...great vid, just given it my vote on the CMT. If the shout at 2:18 is 'eBay' - can you say why without involving eBays's lawyers? And if it isn't, what is it? I count myself a devoted veteran of the g'Earls having seen you & had my stuff signed at Merlefest NC and Bedford UK, where you had a curry.

  • The lyrics or calls in this video are all in Chinese.

  • I meant to tell Johnners53 that the calls were all in Chinese.

  • She's speaking Chinese. I can't make out all she's saying in this, but the part you hear is "Yibei yibei hezui lou" Cup after cup we'll get drunk.

Pretty sure that's what it is. I heard hezui (drunk) and went from that.

  • congrats on the CMT countdown G'EARL's!!

  • Greatly entertaining - and carried of with no small degree of panache.

  • EPIC! Your kung fu is no match for my do-see-do. YEEEEEHAW!!!

  • This was the expression I had when I first saw it: O.o After that, Ive watched it everytime it was on. Its just so bizarre.. the dark-haired girl in the band is really cute.

  • The tune is Devil broke loose in Georgia, by Gid Tanner and the Skillet Lickers. You young hippies don't know that sort of thing.

  • sovereignbalm: The tune is "Streak o' Lean, Streak o' Fat", learned from a recording of A.A. Grey and John Dilleshaw (a.k.a. "Seven Foot Dilly"). The Skillet Lickers recorded a similar tune called "Hell Broke Loose in Georgia". Abigail's mandarin "lyrics" were created to mimic Dilleshaw's running commentary on the original recording. Us young hippies know a FEW things. -- Rayna (fiddler)

  • I stand corrected, as I often need to be. I was just trying to stir the pot a bit, make people mad, and get to write "Skillet Lickers!"

You are a fine fiddler, miz Rayna, and it has been a pleasure to be rebuked by you ;-)

  • The problem with this video is, two hours later you want to watch it again! I never get tired of this thing. Great job, girls!!

  • I like bacon in Chineese, eh? An awesome mingling of cultures!

  • OMG! Is that Monica Lewinsky dancing in the front row of the "western" girls? Eh? Good video. Abigail must have a GREAT life!

  • Just checkin' in for my weekly dose of kung-fu clogging. Ah-h-h-h... Okay, I'm better now.

  • My parrot has to watch CMT and I saw this video. Fell in love with it. I bought this Uncle Earl CD on e-bay. (Hmm, they were singing e-bay e-bay in the song, weren`t they?)

  • Great, I suggest more of The Carolina Chocolate Drops.

  • Amazing video of a great old-time fiddle piece. The clogger versus step dancer bit was funny as could be. Thanks for posting this!

  • I love the Casey Driessen cameo as the chef watching the stuff on the tube. He's a dynamite fiddler too, and it's funny that he shows up in the most bizarre acoustic music video I've ever seen. Great stuff.

  • I meant the battle between the clogger** and the Irish step dancer :)

  • So funny. I love the duel between the tap dancers and the Irish step dancer. Fantastic music, G'earls.

  • The banjo player is Abby Washburn.

  • That was fantastic. I sent a link to this one to dozens of people.

One question comes to mind though. Is that their regular banjo player? She looks different in this video.

Great work. Great music. Great dancing. Great video production. More, please.

  • Wanted share my new 'drum & chop indie-pop' music video (above). We filmed it in Brighton, England just after Uncle Earl UK madness. I only wish the g'earls could have been there to CLOG! Love you all......

~ Laura C. (sometimes g'Earl Bass diva, voice of blond psycho clogger, dancing presidential intern look alike, singer & fiddler.)

  • It's the most humorous, creative video I've seen and it brings OldTime music to a new level & audience. YaY G'earls'!!! TY!

ps-I've been playing oldtime banjo for 30yrs & nice to see good things continue. Learned to clog from GreenGrassCloggers long ago when Earl was w/them...curious, any connection 2name w/band?

    Great tunes!

  • Comedy diamond. A visual reminder to steer clear of the wasabi and opt for the honey instead.

  • Fabulous in its weirdness; the dreamlike result of a too-spicy meal eaten too late at night. Is that Hank Azaria in the first scene? (If so, hi Hank, it's Lissie.)

  • great video,

very entertaining and gthe dancing is fantastic. Keep them coming.

  • This video is hilarious. x3

I love badly dubbed kung fu movies and the music is good too. It was a great idea. :D

  • Why is Jones wearing women's shoes at 3:23? It's the little things...

  • Those are traitional Chinese men's shoes.

  • Marvelous! All these art forms in one video! Would be nice to see more of the G'earls in a video though.

  • check out 3:20 xD!! lol!!

    hehe

  • That;s so funny. xD

  • go jonesy go!!

  • Thank you!!! What a mixed up routine. Mixed up in a good way.

I learned clogging in the Shenandoah Valley of Vriginia. After moving to NJ, I found a clogging group, only to find that it was a bunch of high school girls using drill team moves with clogging steps. My initial reaction was "this is wrong" until I realized that clogging itself derivived from other forms.

    Mashups are not new!

    Thanks!!!

  • Great stuff Uncle Earl! I love how you have the creative ability to break through all the pre-conceptions and breathe new life into areas of music and dance a lot of people would consider to be locked-up in the past.

    You are truely great artists!

  • hahahaha. awesome.

  • I like the magic and the music. A magical musical with lots of fun dancing!

  • Effin' brilliant. I'm not usually a fan of "old-timey" music but there's no museum dust here.

  • Never heard of you 'til today.what a crazy music vidio.makes me wanna dust of my ol' dancing shoes and lep over the table tops!. Great fun, Great job, well done!A fan is born!

    Bualadh bos!

  • Clogging witch this is a wonderful thing.

  • John Paul Jones - EXCELLENT!

  • WITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Notice all the cheesy Chinese-style cheap movie effects like Shaolin Kung Fu where they just use their minds to move objects out the way?

Well, enjoy your persecuting, it's illegal in most countries to name ANYONE as a witch. Be glad people don't call YOU nasty things to your face, as I'm sure many would. ;)

  • conceptually speaking i wouldn't say that this is cheesy its clearly a parody.

  • Ya Maureen!! You look sooo funny♥♥ but we still love u

  • I love the girls, their skills rn their music, they were the best act I saw in 2007.

  • The g'earls out did themselves on this one! I really love this video, so fun!

  • These girls are amazing, this is such a fun video too! What a great combo - good bluegrass, and kung fu clogging. Can't ask for more...

Except to maybe see this in person, ha! :)

  • 5 hot girls that can sing, dance and folk it out. Great!!!

  • these gals are the real deal.

if you ever get the chance to see them live i guarentee they will blow your mind.

also check out abigale washburns solo stuff.

    she is totaly brilliant!!

  • Sweet!

  • i loved the random casey driessen in the chef's outfit. i was laughing the whole time.

  • Irish? That's clearly very serious Chinese performance technique there. Ain't y'all ever heard of Clog Fu before?

  • yo that irish fiddlers a great catch ...(I mean fiddle tosser?) ... she can toss a tune to me any day - great work boys.........i mean G`Earl`s

  • i'm gonna order in and watch this all night!

  • Some Genre-bending at its best. What a hoot.

  • You've missed the biggy - the guy on the piano at the beginning is John Paul Jones - the bass and keyboard player in Led Zeppelin!

  • he produced their album

  • How...amazingly disturbing and hilarious. A friend sent me the link - didn't actually read the title until I looked at the musicians and recognized Abby, whom I ran into in Winnipeg airport this past summer after seeing them play WFF. How fun!

  • @sugarinthegourd:

No, the dancer at 1:15 is the magnificent Laura Cortese, sometimes bassist for UE and fiddle virtuoso in her own right...

  • Going by that info, if KC let down her hair, she'd bear at least a partial resemblance to Laura.

  • U G'earls ROCK. Come back to Asheville soon!

  • just ...the...best!

  • The money shot happens at the 3:15 mark. Call 'em white shoes, call 'em silver shoes, but that particular clogging routine is a riot. Match THAT, Dixie Chicks!

  • The Uncle earl girls are terrific, even much better than the Dixie Chicks in their bluegrass years!!

Abigail and Kc are great musicians and Sharon Gilchrist still the most beautiful woman in the world.

  • John Paul Jones is funny!

  • I love it!!

The dancer at 1:15 looks a lot like a certain Presidential intern. It's not...is it?

  • It took all of 50 seconds to bring us to the start of the song. Hongshao Rou!

  • hilarious...i love it =] <33

  • I was laughing and or dancing for all four minutes and eight seconds! Fun stuff!

  • Best music video I've seen in years.

    Very funny

  • It's over 20,000 yeehaa! ladies!

  • Has CMT gotten ahold of this one yet? It's wild stuff!

  • All I was trying to do was point out that Riverdance (as posted by the original poster that sparked this) was the name of show by Michael Flatley. Look into it, as I told the last person. Follow the root of it and you JUST might see that I'm right. Or, maybe when they clog in Ireland with no river nearby...?

  • Fan-TASS-tic!!!! I LOVE this!!!

  • Trippy.

  • saw these folks in jan earlier this year supporting the flecktones, was a prime gig! :)
