That's true nowadays, but back when this was filmed, the grown ups never saw him because they were always "looking in the wrong direction". Only Big Bird ever saw him because he was originally conceived as an imaginary friend. In the '80s he was made real in conjunction with a news story about children being sexually abused. Parents wanted children to know that just because you're a kid doesn't mean you shouldn't speak out about what you know is true... hence the "Snuffy is real" arc. :)
The physical mountain is real...even though it might not have a name. Check out the article on "Mt. Snuffleupagus" (or Mount Ihu Papa'a Lo'ihi Nui) on the Muppet Wiki. There's a message from Buffy (in the Discussion section) telling where (in Kauai) it is. It's not far from Mt. Hole-in-the-Mountain, if I remember right.
Thanks for posting this! My kids and I loved this series on Sesame Street! It introduced me to Keola and Kapona Beamer...and their lovely storyteller mother, Nona! Love their musical talent...along with Buffy! Would love to see the series ending song "Remember Me"?
Mr Hoopers face and reaction is priceless! This is from the days when Suffelupagus was Big Birds imaginary friend and no one believed him. Love to see more from these days.
@RooseveltFranklinFan it's on the north side of kauai before reaching Ke'e beach

Buffy did a nice song about Suffelupagus which I used to watch years ago and it was a very moving song about Big Birds imaginary friend.

Snuffy is NOT imaginary. He is real to Sesame Street.

Andro: Don't we all? Being in or on a place like Sesame Street or Mount Snuffleupagus sounds entertaining and interesting.

Is this a true story?
Andromanche1337 3 years ago
No; the mountain AND the story about it were both invented for Sesame Street, just like Snuffy himself.
