  • Nice job! I had a poodle that used to sing whenever I practiced. :)

    Keep up the good work!

  • Great, it was amazing to know that you are self-taught. I notice that you dont play with score sheet infont of you at all. How can you do that. Amazing. Oscar

  • @Saxophoneoscar Hi Oscar, I can't read music, unfortunately. I've tried, but it won't go in.

  • Beautiful.

  • I love the saxophone. so much. and you make it sound soo amazing(:

  • Hahaaaa

  • great job! that dog scared the shit out of me haha

  • My dog doesn't bark when I'm playing!

  • Woah, you're really good. I have been learning Jazz theory lately and I hve been really pumped about improvising.

  • Absolutly beautiful. Your low notes speak so easily and fluidly.

  • i had a laugh at the end with the dog barking..haha...u played nicely bro...

  • Wouldnt be the same without that ending lol

  • @TripleOctaveMusic Ha! I'd forgotten about that! You must be one of the very few people who've watched it to the end. Well done man.

  • @BOPPPPER i think this masterpiece is whatched by many people till the end ;D good job sir!

  • thats true about the ending...

  • Really good! Thanks for posting

  • Must say I love your tone, your feel, you make your statement, then pause, which is right technique for jazz.

  • great playing! you sound a lot like stan getz in the upper octaves

  • sounds great!

  • People like you is what makes you tube great, Great Job great licks wishing you all the best!

  • Just excelent man.

  • hi...fantastic playing but was just wondering how you record the sax sound with the backing track mix...it does sound like you got a bit of reverb going on ...

    Cheers mate

  • @galaxyblinds Hi Galaxy, I created the backing track using Aebersold Playalong, then pulled the track into Logic Express (Mac) recording software. I used a Morgan USB condenser mic (£100 great value) to record the sax only into Logic Express and mix it with the backing track in Logic. I listen to the backing track through earphones while playing and being videoed. See part 2

  • This is fantastic!! Truly great playing.

I've been looking for the Aebersold backing track for a couple of days now, as I've been asked to play this tune at a wedding in a couple of weeks - can you let me know which book/CD it's on please?

Cheers, and keep up the great work!

  • @poolio75 Hi, you can get this Aeberold backing track on Aebersold Jam Session CD/book No. 34 on ebay.

  • I play tenor in my HS Jazz Band, and I keep trying to sound like all those jazz guys on my CDs, but its not working >.>

    Good job I guess =)

  • I have been playing sax for over 40 yrs. and I loved

your rendition. You not only have soul, you have heart. I would love a CD of your music, as I am sure many other people would. Keep it up, you could rank up there with the greats!!!!!!!

  • nice sound

  • Nice sound!

  • that was excellent 5/5 from me

  • Hi Ikybenny, you can buy Jamey Aebersold playalong CDs on Amazon, but I can't find a legal download website. Improvising comes naturally to me, in fact I can't do anything else. I've been practising it for forty years in a series of jazz bands. Join a band. Listen to a lot of jazz. practise long and often. Good luck!...Ian.

  • You play great! is there anywhere i can download the backing tracks online? and how did you learn all the improv?

    greeting from hong kong

  • Yes, you're right. I do like Aebersold backing tracks. What Selmer are you using?

  • Aebersold vol 34 Jam Session Disc One right?

    I like that version.

    Nice job

  • Thanks. The mic is just out of shot. It's a studio recording condenser mic and it picks up well from a little distance.

  • Great playing. I am wondering where your mic is ?

  • Beautifull !! In really, it's difficult to play a song of this kind, in such way.

  • omg,

beautiful tone, i don't think i've heard it any better =]

you gotta give me some pointers, i also play tenor and i play vibes too

  • First get the right sax for you, mine's a Selmer, then a mouthpiece you like with a good reed, I use a metal Otto Link and Plasticover Ricos, then listen to lots of guys playing with tone you like and try hard to copy them, and your embochure will gradually adapt to give you something like the tone you want. It may take a few months, but it's worth it.

  • what kind of metal otto link, a regular stm? and you really used a plasticover this song?

  • oh yeah I forgot, is your mouthpiece refaced?

  • I only use Rico Plasticover 2 and a half, with an Otto Link Super Tonemaster, USA, No. 8, just as it comes out of the box. That set-up suits my chops, but it won't suit everyone's. Just experiment. It took me about 15 years to finally settle on this. I've tried Lawton, and Selmer Jazz amongst many others.

  • By the way, that's MY reply below. My daughter had not logged out before I replied.

    BOPPPPER

  • Refacing doesn't make the mpc any better. When you damage a mouthpiece or the mouthpiece has a problem (a lot of Larsen's are inconsistent for example) you get it refaced to fix it. you may also do it to make it suit you better. if you want a refacing go to mr. 'mojo' or morgan

  • the sound is very warm

  • omg....it is so beautiful and tender..love it

  • it is beautifull

  • I like your style, you make it so tenderly

  • impresionante aun hay gente por ahi con sentimiento, this is feeling

  • Hi Glan, thanks for the kind comment. Stick with it, and the improvising will come. Just try varying the phrasing. Play around with it a bit. Then try making a few minor alterations to the melody as you go along. Just use the melody as a template. That's a good start. And, by the way, 54 is just a youngster. I started to learn the guitar at 63.

  • One of the very first tunes I learned to play but even after four years I still can't break away from the melody into improvising. This is simply lovely to listen to, and just what I wish I could play. But starting to learn at the age of 54 I may have left it a bit late to get this good!

  • too cool~~~~~!

  • Great video! Excellent improvising, and a wonderful breathy tone on the lower notes, a bit reminiscent of Ben Webster. I play a Selmer Super Action tenor, and I don't think that my tone is as good as yours.
