  • magic music

  • :)

  • saw them Friday @ Mesa Amp.....this was the third song I think. It was amazing. More electric than this version and perhaps a bit faster. Just churning and roiling. Jacob played the main melody on vibes.

it was amazing. god i love these guys.

  • I love Calexico and love my city Tucson. Beautiful video.

  • Great song! Great band!

  • I LOVE Calexico and DREAM of the day when I can sing with them!!

  • 16 people were death

  • @gavswo Stoned to death :)

  • Can't wait to see Calexico with Amos Lee this summer. It will be the BEST. SHOW. EVER!

  • San Xavier!

    (I can taste indian frybread....:-)

    The boneyard!

    That depressing ass wig store!

    I miss tucson, man.

Prolly be in jail if ida never left, but still.

    peace yalls.

  • @DJpopel Trust me it hasn't changed at all.

  • do you think "two silver trees" is a homage to "silver trees" by rocky votolato? :D

  • 1:07 onward is pure projected magic.

  • I think all the shots are tucson

  • Some of the shots are from Tucson Arizona I thought that was cool to see considering

  • Calexico rules with a worn leather fist over the desert.

  • This Song is simply cool.

  • victor jara's hands is better why no video? :(

  • I like Calexico, but why is it on the Mumford & Sons playlist? That's not cool.

  • This is crazy to listen to while playing Red Dead Redemption

  • @bigboss58 I swear, the game NEEDS some Calexico! Too bad horses don't have radios...

  • @GenoClown I muted the game and played this while I rode to take down that fort the first time

  • cheeky, ain't it?

  • sooo good!

  • I put on the Mumford and Sons playlist and got this song. At first I was not sure but I started it over and now really like it! Where are they from? How long have they been around? They are really good.

  • Mumford & Sons playlist.

  • AH!!! THUMBS ITT

  • The music is beautiful, the lyrics are meh.

  • is this supposed to be music?

  • @Rumplestiltskin7 do you want to explain to us, what "real" music is?...well, forget it. music is always subjective. and calexico are great musicians anyway.

  • @MrsNemonina Well i'm just asking, perhaps music has evolved over the years to become this crap.

  • @Rumplestiltskin7

So what is music then? this band is great

  • saw them live with Arcade Fire last month. They were great!!!!

  • i heard of 'em for the first in london,10 years ago,it's one of my favorites bands since then

  • Probably the most original band that came up in last 20 years except maybe for Tool, SlipKnot and Tortoise. They really brushed their style to perfection. I remember the Spoke album. And the song Wash. Since then they only got better unlike some bands. I can't believe that someone can dislike this. Dislike button should be disabled for this video.

  • @Valdezb6p There are people who don't like calexico - they don't like this style, this "world"music touch. but who cares ;) we know that we are the lucky ones enjoying this unique music. but I hope, the next record will be a bit more dirty, not so clean. I really love "tool box", that's haunting me.

  • @MrsNemonina Well said. Although it's not next record that I'm waiting for. I want their next DVD with high quality sound. Everything they do live is so much better than studio(I'm not saying they aren't good in studio). I had a DVD : Live From Barbican london but I broke the disc and I can't find song "Wash" from that concert anywhere on net. That's great version. And I need it badly.

  • @Valdezb6p than get a new "barbican" - I loooove this concert, too. mariachis, francoiz, lulu, joey & troooompets *_* all I need! "Wash" is a nice opener, indeed. I really love "sonic wind" there, "quattro, and "corona" and "cascabel" and........ :)

  • sounds a lot like the lead singer in Jars of Clay ...

  • Comment removed

  • Love love love them!

  • <3 ..

  • DAMN im in love with these two!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Warts and all Tucson is my home.

  • God- I miss Tucson

  • i like the sound these guys produce. very crisp and haunting. i love it!

  • I love this song I'm Polish, and suddenly I heard this song on the radio and just fell in love with this team cry when I listen to this song greetings for those who like the band

  • Aaaaah this video makes me homesick for Tucson! Love you, Calexico!

  • The song is quite nice but the video is unreasonably mediocre.

  • oh man this song + a cold whiskey cola + relaxing in the sun :D

  • they are great...I love all them CD´S

    nice!

  • I think it's amazing that Europe has embraced this band but America hasn't discovered them yet. No matter how many times I watch this video or listen to this song I never fail to love it a little more.

  • it's amzing Tucson has not enough either, which is where they're from

  • They are also playing in the tap room at Club Congress! Its been awhile since ive been there but it still has the same jukebox!

  • false identities stranded in each single seed = people, the "seeds", that we trust, aren't who we think they are

false sense of warning, no poisoned cup = Our suspicion of terrorism was false, Al Qaeda didn't cause this

Just deception crawling up like a snake = Bush administration. Also, Dick Cheney, Carlos Gutierrez and Michael Mukasey were born in the year of the snake (Chinese astrology)!

ok maybe that last point was unneccesaary

  • I'm telling you, this song is about 9/11! Listen...

code-breakers with lines well-tapped= government/CIA tapping phones after Patriot Act

father signing the papers= George H.W. Bush invading Iraq Part 1

Two silver trees= the twin towers

two worlds in need = USA and Iraq

Branches falling down = the towers collapsing

sources underground = the towers were bombed by the government!

  • Just found, just love.

  • Yus! Playing at WOMAD this year:D

  • il passato ritorna con le canzoni

  • seen and heard from Czech Rep - thumb up, great music

  • its a shit how that people thinks in mexico like a poor country with so much things to say... they think they can feel the same thing... they dont know that, they cant use the mexican symbols because they HATE US they USE US for do songs... the day when they come in mexico and live like a real mexican maybe they will understeand. ARIZONA WAS FROM MEXICO THAT PEOPLE NOT

  • @slipkzoe

Man, I cannot understand what you're trying to say.

  • I never heard of these guys until today. I like their "trance" style. There's a certain haunting mellowness in this song. Why don't we hear of innovative groups earlier? Why are all the outlets so controlled, so as to only allow certain select groups public exposure? I'll give these guys 5 Stars.

  • With the use of the internet as a search tool, what's yer excuse for not being hip? Blame the MainStream? Son, you gotta take that shovel and dig a little. You expect all the "cool" shit to be spoon-fed to ya?

  • kneejerker: Well, excuse meeee. I suppose you're so "hip" yourself...

  • Har har hardy har har. (Since you choose to quote Steve Martin circa 1977, I chose to quote Jackie Gleason circa 1958 -- now THAT'S hip!)

  • I grew up in Tucson till I was 18, and had never heard of them. Then I go to NORWAY and my cousin who lives there has me listen to them. Cant get enough of them now. LOL

  • ten facet jest obleśny

  • This is my favorite band!!!!

  • @lnbdnxo I totally agree :-)!

  • Hey, Cowboy - try to make the trip with a short stop in Germany so I can jump on that plane as well. I want to visit Arizona once either! :)

  • Herkömmlich man :)

  • I love this band..They were in Croatia two times and that was so good that i went to Amsterdam to see them for the third time.Concert in Paradiso was great..I like video for this song...Does anyone knows location where this video was taken :-)

  • The video was shot in (and around) Tucson, Arizona.

And congratulations, Cowboy, you're from Hrvatska and speak better English than many Americans!

  • Thanks for the compliment Val. :-)

I would like to visit Tucson someday,so it is time to start save some money for trip to Arizona.

    Pozdrav iz Hrvatske!

  • Tucson

The airplanes are at the AMARG Boneyard and most of the other scenes are in downtown.

  • Looks like Tucson to me

  • caleeeeexicooooooooo!!!!!!!

  • tucson is a cultured shithole

the U of A is sweet though

  • Like a loth :)

  • they know what will be the real music

  • In your opinion what are the two silver trees?

  • Tucson IS fucking great! the desert is stunning, the monsoon season is amazing, the night-time sky is jaw droppingly gorgeous. good music scene, anchored by Calexico, but populated by tons of talented folk.

reyrip, you're right. dawg, conversely, if it's misery to live here, leave. easier than bitching about it.

  • LOVE THIS SONG! BTW :) I met these guys on a Dutch festival where my band played with them and discussed music afterwards :)

    Musical regards, AlascA

  • good song :)

  • absolut great!

  • Tucson is truly cool.

  • Do you even live here? Its only "cool" in movies and videos. Spare yourself the misery.

  • No unfortulately I live in the Phoenix area but I spent the 90's in Tucson as Calexico and others were coming into their prime. I always loved Tucson for many reasons including the Catalinas, the large Hispanic community , the beautiful Sonoran Desert and my friends. I am sorry you do not share my fondness.

  • If you love it so much, why don't you move back? I know of a few house for rent and sale I could hook you up with. :-)

  • They jammed with Manu Katché on TV here in Germany :)

    Pretty cool.

  • haha i live in calexico

  • Oh my God, I'm nearly addicted to this song! So great, unbelievable!

  • the beginning piano sounds like Leon Russell's masquerade opening

  • im a love fan and discovered calexico thru their cover of alone again or!! and they are as mighty a band as love! high praise! but deserved! this song is gorgous!!!!

  • *Amazing*. For me is without a doubt 'Carried To Dust' one of my favorite albums in my collection. Thank You Calexico.

  • brilliant song!

  • i'm loving the micaceous figurine/ceramic at :44. was that left at Tiradito?

  • I love this group. Maybe you should start with one of the earlier recordings because the mariachis are not to be missed. What talent!

  • I want to buy a CD of Calexico, but have no idea which one is good or what... (Sorry)

Can somebody name a good one?

  • Feast of Wire is a great one to start with.

  • 'Garden Ruin' is also a good one album-wise. Their collaboration with Iron & Wine has a lot of stuff like this song, I think it's called 'In The Reins'. The 'Crystal Frontier' single is also a great buy, if you can get hold of it.

  • they're all very good. 'carried to dust' is the best i think. but everyone has another opinion. ;)

  • I was raised in Imperial Valley, California, there is a town on the California side named Calexico and the town on the Mexican side is named Mexicali, I wonder if they named their band after that town? Cool band, no matter what their name is.

  • Check it out. Behind those planes is my backyard! Hahaha. Calexico rules.

Hey quick question. Any one know what kind of guitar Joey is playing? I'd buy that guitar in a heartbeat. Thanks!

  • Greetings Modest Mouser.

The electric guitar Joey plays towards the end of the video is called an 'Airline' and was made either 50's or 60's, I would say. I believe they are English made. Will set you back a few bucks if you want to own one.

As for the acoustic at the beginning...a classical Manuel Rodriguez (I THINK...Please don't take my word for it).

    Hope this helps.

    Peace.

  • a company called eastwood makes the airline guitars now, very affordable and are great guitars!

  • Very good!

  • Hmmmm... soul, music, voices...trees...harmonic and melancolic !

  • They Voice from him + the sound

    its great to relax!

  • footage is from Tucson, not necessarily in this order, and appears to be Congress Street, Congress Hotel, downtown, Barrio Hollywood, St. Augustin Cathedral, El Tiradito, area around the Ronstadt Center, and 6th Ave in South Tucson. From 1:59 forward is the Davis Monthan Boneyard. The Boneyard is awesome. So's this song.

  • 0:32 : east side of Meyer just north of 17th, looking north.

0:42 : northwest corner of Convent and 18th, looking southwest.

0:45 : west side of Meyer just south of the convention center, traveling north.

    1:28 : southeast corner of W Congress/Grande

  • Well done, my friend. <3

  • calexico is amazing

  • Chillout Chillout Chillout!!!!

  • yes a nice chilling song

  • Comment removed

  • This played on the Finnish Subtv Movie complication ad on christmast so this is legendary for me.

  • Chilling a 100percent!

  • The bass line of this stays with me and the hushed vocals are like a mysterious dream.

  • I looove the piano <3 I love all of this : )

  • It would be difficult to ever find a better song than this...just magnificent.

  • I like how they completely destroy and rebuild the song when they play it live, with a healthy amount of noise and general guitar awesomeness to boot.

  • so good

  • nothing but Tucson in this video

  • so simple yet so good!

  • Nice vid. I like it. :)

  • where is the intro????

  • Quite simply sublime

  • I wonder why they dropped the trickling intro?

  • One of the best songs from their last album!

  • Great tune and video - nice work :-)

  • i love this song. i love calexico for not being comparable with any other band i know =)

  • where can I get the lyrics?

  • visit google, search for the following:

    "Two Silver Trees" lyrics

  • Reminds me of Tito & Tarantula-Awesome!

  • love this band, can't believe they are not more popular, then again maybe not =)

  • Burns/Convertino 2012

  • Thank you so much for your concert in Oslo tonight - It was great!

  • Calexico is great as always! Saw them live last night and it was amazing. They played for over two hours and it never got boring.

  • I have been hearing this song on an AM radio station in Montreal quite a bit the past few weeks, it immediately grabbed my attention. The first time I ever heard them was a few years ago when their cover of Alone Again Or came out, that song was really pretty, but this....it's captivating.

  • awesome music

  • sick tune.. can you get the instrumental anywhere?

  • Does someone know, how old Joey and John are? I relly need to know! Please answer quickly

  • This is Calexico's best song! I have at least 5 of their songs in my collection. "House of Valparaiso" and "Victor Jara's Hands" are also very good. Calexico is one of the best groups today.

  • yes yes yes, i totally agree! when i listend to the record for the first time this song kept ringing in my ear. i can`t count how many i have been listening to it the last couple of weeks, must be about a hunderd already, as i spent even one single evening walking around my neighbourhood at night listening to it for like 25 times of so... b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l. song!!

  • I agree with jimnaughton1, you've got something special with this song. The chorus is so powerful...I don't know what else to say besides it speaks to my soul, and it is augmented by the sparse and mysterious verses. I heard this on 89.3 The Current, and while that's great, I hope you've got some smart people promoting you, because you've really got something that needs to be shared with more people.

  • You really need to promote this song...to be honest, it's a huge hit...the only thing is will anybody notice, 'cos what is the difference between this song or any other that was a hit? This is a hit...hope everybody notices! It's GREAT!

  • Anybody see what's on the TV in the backround? Think it's CNN and, I believe that that is no coincidence;)

  • Posted that too early. The music, the chime like sounds in the background, is, this is going to sound ridiculous, enchanting almost.

  • I officially love this song, lol! It's so pretty.
