  • How do you find all these great places?

  • I'd never do this - knowing my luck I would get to the end that was filled in, then head back only to find that while I was exploring, the other end has been welded shut ! 5 Years later when the next explorer comes there I'd be - just a pile of bones - LOL

  • wow awsome tunnel and great photos too

  • im chris clarkson, born in clayton. me and some of my mates walked through the tunnel at night, back in 1972. we only had one torch, and it took ages to get to the end. what a night, we did it as a dare, or!!! if you come from clayton? its called duffing!!! test ur bravery. i got very dirty after getting out , and got in to trouble wid my dad. bless him. rip robert clarkson.......

  • Just goes to show you that it doesn't take millions of years for stalagtites to form.

  • Just been down yesterday. Walked all around and inside a bit. However, there are some signs that the tunnel is collapsing. The bricks are dislodging. Its amazing because all the barbed wire is down. I wish they'd make into into the sustrans Clayton Cycle track. Just love the area. I live in the old School and am a Chorister at St Johns and learn the organ.

  • what flashlight is that?

  • @f22shift

    It's a little pen-torch

  • two men died in the first air shaft

  • I am from Clayton and have explored it. However, I was a little scared that is may collapse! Does It really end up by the estate. I don't think it does??

  • It does; look at some old maps (some online) & ye can see were it went.

  • If you remember the Old Mill and New Mills then, walk between them towards Penney Hill and you will walk over the portal (entrance). As a boy, my mates and I often sat on the portal parapet to watch the trains enter and exit, and, as to be expected, clouded in smoke.

  • Another good video mate and another good tunnel to check out,is this near the Queensbury tunnel?

  • Yep. Had intended to go down into the Queensbury one, having checked it the week before & found it was open. Turned up later to find someone had welded it shut!, Those H&S Nazis at it again.... So as plan B went down this next door.
