I've tried this mode but my lens doesn't seem to actually 'focus' on the face, at least continually (as I imagine it should)...doesn't work when the face is moving towards or away from the camera, so this demo is kinda pointless.
The face recognition is not a continuous focus mode. It is made more for posed pictures than for , say sports. Perhaps I should have pointed this out.
Nice vid. Does this mean that in facial recognition mode the cam would track motion as well if the person comes toward the cam? As it seems to track focus as the face moves but everybody says it does not track motion. Then how is it able to focus on a moving face ? Hmm.. I,m confused... -))
Faces move slower than objects, so it's easier, but to understand it you must know that it is first locking in on skintones with eyes/face , in the picture. It's not tracking movement as much as it is looking for that face on the screen, once it recognizes it.
Its a good topic to have a video but I suggest that the video be edited to not only show how cool face mode is but also how to actually get that mode to work - explain the procedures too. Thanks
Problem is this is not really live facial autofocus. It's only auto-face-detection. To actually to get it autofocus on the face, you still need to press the AF-ON button and wait for the bracket around the face to turn green.

I don't get it. You mentioned autofocus, yet you ahd to keep working the manual ring. What's up with that?
SaganAppreciationSoc 3 years ago
You may have to use the ring to get it close. Then the face recognition will kick in and lock it into focus true.
