@aiy19sha That is correct. There are other ways to ensure healthy bones, dairy is not essential for this. Speak to a health professional about getting a good quality calcium & vitamin D supplement, and eating plenty of vegetables, nuts, salmon, sesame seeds, and at least 2 serves of fruit daily.
@PowerOverPCOS So do you know what i can do for breakfast instead, cause I have always had breakfast with dairy products such as cheese on toast or milk and cereal
@aiy19sha I have PCOS and don't have dairy (I'm lactose intolerant also). For breakfast I typically have porridge made on water with calcium fortified rice milk (fortified soy milk should be ok also) and a ground up seed/nut mix called LSA (linseeds, sunflower seeds, almonds) for good fats. Baked beans on toast or poached eggs on toast are also good. If you like salmon I would suggest trying to eat tinned salmon regulary as it has tiny edible bones in it that has lots of calcium.
hhmmm dairy interesting. i have heard that soy can make women with pcos gain weight, not sure if that's true. i have always been able to lose weight as long as i do low carb, lots of exercise, and stay on bc. BUT i always gain it back VERY fast. I will constantly yoyo, and i dont want to accept it.
I make videos here on youtube that are pcos related and I don't know if you'd be interested but you would totally make my day if you checked it out! :)
Blanket statements about ALL DAIRY are bad science! Studies proving this or that about dairy are done on conventional pasteurized and/or ultra-pasteurized and homogenized milks. Organic, raw, pasture based dairy is NOT the same. I was diagnosed PCOS 19 years ago and it was only after starting to use REAL dairy that I started experiencing health improvements!
@HarperInTheMist If you're going to have dairy then I agree, raw natural dairy is better. But, whether it is pasteurised/homogenised or not does not change the core proteins in dairy - whey and casein. Whey is the culprit for increasing insulin, and (A1 beta) casein may be connected to increased inflammation & cardiovascular problems (See the book 'Devil in the milk'). A2 dairy is better, but still has whey which is a problem for pcos.
I am 24 and was diagnosed with PCOS in February 2011... My husband and I can't Conceive children without drastic measures. This video opened up my eyes with the foods I eat. Milk has to stop today! If you guys want to talk please email me at Alexis.k.fazio @ gmail
Would love to talk to people!
Also, in about 4 months we are going to start trying again for a baby... So fingers crossed!
I am 29 and was just diagnosed with pcos. well I was also diagnosed with being allergic to all nuts, peanut butter, and coconut. and I get sick from eating all sea food the smell of sea food canned chicken and tuna fish makes me sick.
im 15 and was diagnosed 9 months ago. I absolutely hate this crap! Its depressing and embarrassing. Thank you for your video, I had no idea about the dairy products...I drink a lot of milk, but that will have to STOP. I pray to God every night that he will help me conceive a child when I marry in my life. I just am so sick of this, kids make fun of me at school because of the side effects, I just sucks.
@gabbsvw don't worry too much! with the right treatment, you'll have kids! a friend of mine was diagnosed pco years ago. she is the mother of three children!! i wish you the best of luck!!
I'm 18 and was just diagnosed with PCOS. I've started getting healthier again and the tips in this video helped me take a step in the right direction. I had no idea cutting down on dairy and drinking spearmint tea and apple cider vinegar could help me. Thank you so much for the help. :)
@mihsathe No, all dairy (except some cheeses) stimulate high insulin levels, just like white bread does, even though it has a low GI. This is due to the proteins in dairy. Low fat makes no difference.
It all sounds good, but I'm not sure of the Apple Cider Vinegar. I've read that it can damage the lining of your stomach, and I noticed I get indigestion when I take it.
@tammyleighbee See the article on ACV on my blog (Oct 28th 2010) for info on how to use it safely. However, if you have a history of ulcers, or are taking anti-inflammatories regularly, it's best not to take it. If you take it, make sure it is taken with food.
a hormone specialist told me to do the new Atkins new you diet which made my skin blotchy and red also i only lost 3 pounds in 2weeks on weight watchers i lose 5/ 10 but its just getting probably back on it at the moment i dont really drink alot of milk only with my fruit and fiber cereal but when i was on my Atkins i was told i could eat loads of meat cook it any way and cheese i prefer weight watchers alot more though
@cee607 The problem with eating loads of meet and cheese is that it puts you in an acidic & inflammatory state (hence your red skin), and reduces your intake of omega 3 fats. By eating any source of animal protein you need to balance this out with alkaline forming foods like vegetables. The paleo diet is a better, healthy way to lose weight.
It is so hard to eat healthier, especially when you are not raised to eat healthy. Where I come from, there is a limited amount of healthy alternatives; Faster foods and unhealthy foods are more convenient. Instead of smashing a piece of chocolate cake when I'm stressed out, I could go for a walk or eat some apples and wheat crackers or something. Hang in there, ladies...there is hope for us and one day we will be blessed and have the children that our hearts desire.
I got diagnosed with PCOS a year ago aged 19. It's a shock there isn't a cure for something this common. Anyway thank you for the tips. Question, as I'm from an Asian background, my diet relies heavily on rice as a staple food in all meals. What could I do to lose weight that doesn't require giving up rice? Also what other foods are good for promoting hormonal balance besides Spearmint?
Women with PCOS should avoid soy at all costs. Its been highly advertised as this miracle health food however for PCOS'ers its one of the worst things you can ingest. It contains phytoestrogens, which are a group of chemicals found in plants that can act like the hormone estrogen. Women with PCOS already have irregular hormones, many have too much estrogen. So adding more into the mix only worsens things.
Hi! Thank you for great video! I got diagnosed with PCOS for 2 months ago, and has reduced the dairy products intake since I saw this video. The problem is that I LOVE milk, all kind of cheese products.. Which products can I eat and drink instead? Is soya milk products ok? Hope you answer!! =))
Hello, what is something I could drink in place of milk? I don't like soy milk, but I read somewhere that's bad for PCOS anyway. Are all milks bad, like goats milk, etc?
@latinavaquerita You don't need to drink anything in place of milk, society has led us to believe we need milk, but we don't. We need calcium, yes, but optimal calcium is achieved not only by calcium intake but by a mostly alkaline forming diet that keeps pH in balance (plenty of vegetables, fruits, less grains...etc). Any milk from dairy (incl goats) i would reduce or avoid.
Hello!! I had a weight loss surgery 6 months ago since loose weight on my own was very hard due to the PCOS.... We all know dairy products provides calcium, protein, etc that's important for our diet, what's a good substitute for that?? Specially for wls patients... Please help!!!!
This makes a lot of sense. I'm sure it's not a surprise to anyone but my doctor didn't even MENTION insulin resistance. I was on the Dr. Bernstein and felt fantastic.....funny, the diet promotes EVERYTHING that is in this video.
@poweroverpcos I've noticed apple cider vinegar tablets/capsules being sold in health food shops in Sydney, Australia. Is this recommended or is it best to use the liquid form?! Thanks.
@DulceRainbow Start with small amount (eg 1/4 tspn) and build up slowly to what you can handle. I will do a blog post soon answering this question in more detail - poweroverpcos(dot)com/blog
i was diagnosed with pcos at 15 and since then i have lost 21 pounds, but now im having alot of trouble losing the rest of the weight any tips??? and i would really like some advice about the excess body hair because now that i lost wieght and im seventeen i get very uncomfortable wearing certain clothing and i feel very self concious around my friends and especially guys.... will this be a problem in marriage will losing more weight help!!!! please help anybody
@jznt I totally understand what you mean. Get ipl treatment to remove your excess hair. PCOS treatment with medication will help with the menses, hormones and all, but whatever hair you have will not disappear by itself. You will need to get rid of them - trust me. i have been there.
I have PCOS as well as Insulin resistance. I was put on Meteformin when I was first diagnosed at 16. Went off it for a few years, and I was put back on it 5 months ago.
Ive been on a diet of fruit, veggies, and lean meat...with the occasional bit of fat free/light dairy. Before that I was on a "gluten free diet" and I still stick to those principles...
After seeing this video I think I may go back to the natural diet. Thanks for the tips :)
Thanks so much for the info! I just found out I have PCOS but it seems like with a few changes I can get back to normal soon and with minimal medications. :)
This video is very helpful - particularly about diary products. Diary has a low GI but it stimulates insulin production? Wow. Good info. Thanks for providing this.
Another thing I've learned is to avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice. A common treatment for PCOS is going on the birth control pill, which can cause nausea, and apparently grapefruit can aggravate this nausea.
Another thing I've learned is to avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice. A common treatment for PCOS is going on the birth control pill, which can cause nausea, and apparently grapefruit can aggravate this nausea.
@FunnyChloeMichelle also try almond milk I think it tastes better when you make it yourself just search youtube for videos on how to make it it is very easy!
Soy milk is bad news, especially if you have PCOS. Soy contains compounds that bind to your cellular estrogen receptors, and can wreak havoc on your endocrine system. Soy is not a health food - it is produced and marketed by some of the biggest agribusiness corps out there. The same ones who make high fructose corn syrup. Red flag, anyone? Coconut milk is great, and regular milk, if it's organic and the cows are pastured, is extremely healthy.
Thank you for these tips, is there a way of replacing the Calcium gained from Milk and Dairy, are there any other foods that provide Calcium, I only mention as one other sympton I get is Calcium spots on my nails and face
@midnightsaucery green leafy vegetables have calcium like kale spinache romaine lettuce! Kale is the best. And if you dont want to eat it just juice it!
Thank you for throwing me a life line. Very overweight, facial hair, sleep apnea, irregular periods, BUT 4 days ago i decided to cut down drastically on carbs, im going to give myself a chance, (we want a baby) I know only I can do this, well here goes! Diane UK
thank you so much for this. pcos has been the source of much sadness and stress for me. i still have hope and faith that with dedication to health and positivity i can get my body back in alignment. we have to let go of the stress sisters! sometimes i feel that stress and anxiety in an overly masculine world affects our brains and bodies, especially in very sensitive women.. just my thoughts.. thanks and stay strong!
@smiguet , try drinking apple cider vinegar with some apple juice. It blends in so the bitterness is easier to handle. That is what I did. I lost 42 pounds but, I also did alot of walking, one hour a day, almost every morning, for about six months. But, I know it is fat not water weight.
Is drinking arizona or lipton ice tea with <1 grams of splenda sugar ok? Is there another liquid we can drink besides water with our meals? Bc i know fruit juices is loaded with sugar and not good for pcos, any suggestions thanks
how many times a day do you drink the tea's and do you drink them all together or one in the morning one at lunch and one at dinner?
Also apple cider how much needs to be diluted in water? and do i drink it 3X a day? thanks i have PCOS to i was diagnosed 2 yrs ago and struggling alot with weight facial hair and my hair is falling everyday to the point where i can see my scalp i am very unhappy :o(
Has pros and cons, more research needed. If you do, make sure it is made from whole soy beans and not soy protein extract, and not genetically modified.
Could you please list the three types of teas that you recommended? Especially the one that you said lowers testosterone levels. I could not understand. Also, is raw milk kefir safe to drink even though it is dairy? It is a fermented milk product. Thank you!
So dairy is out, but can I still use Almond Milk, Coconut Milk, Rice Milk, etc?
iluye 3 weeks ago
@iluye Yes, you just need to be aware that those milks (except coconut) are often high in carbohydrates.

Drink medicinal teas two to three times a day, eg: morning, afternoon, evening.
Start with a small amount of apple cider vinegar (eg: 1/4 tspn) and build up gradually - before each main meal.

Is Silk Soy Milk okay to drink? Or any soy milk rather?
MinnieMouse077 2 years ago
Has pros and cons, more research needed. If you do, make sure it is made from whole soy beans and not soy protein extract, and not genetically modified.

Hi,
Could you please list the three types of teas that you recommended? Especially the one that you said lowers testosterone levels. I could not understand. Also, is raw milk kefir safe to drink even though it is dairy? It is a fermented milk product. Thank you!
