This effects money supply and basically controls the economy in an indirect manner. By using expansionary or contractionary monetary policy you can send the economy into a boom or recession theoretically. The bank is independent so that political influence is null and void.

The power that Congress CAN create a central bank DOES exist just because it isn't stated doesn't mean it cannot exist. Research it. If your going to bring up the Great Depression, then do not forget that the stock market was completely flawed at that time with no limits on buying/selling at one sitting, and that stocks were being sold for more then actual worth.

sold his holdings and converted them into gold.
The depression that followed was deliberately caused by
the private bankers who own the Fed.

The Congress sold us out.
Central bank? OK.

@tomken8dy Ok then. Let's say the central bank was indeed associated with the government. Think about the problems now that are in politics. If the central bank were owned and controlled by congress then whoever controlled the house and senate controls the economy. Each party has different opinions and each believes they are right. The Federal Reserve is independent to eliminate this threat. No political influence = less corruption versus political influence = more corruption.

Private bankers will gladly bankrupt nations to build their power.
What if Congress simply issues our money without borrowing
it from a middleman?
Debt-free currency instead of debt-based currency.

@tomken8dy Issue? Awesome idea. Let's print 10 Trillion USD and see where that get's us. Bankrupting countries? If the federal reserve bankrupted the country it is located in, where its currency lies, it will die along with its victim, thats not very efficient. The bank is set up this way because obviously the Government CAN'T handle money. Look at us now. Trillions of dollars in debt and with no signs of wishing to improve. You CANNOT say that is the Federal Reserves fault.
