you can see the film crew moving behind them in the backdrop - kind of surreal - from a 70's TV pop producer's perspective it would have been anyway ;)
Obviously the bass was over-dubbed in the original by Tom Evans, but since he's on acoustic guitar here, you see Joey pretending to play the bass....but not too well. Still nice to see these rare videos though. Thanks for posting.
One of the most amazing and beautiful Badfinger recordings from "The Magic Christian " sound track, truly a great album in its own right. Tom and Pete show some gorgeous harmonies and that somewhat frightening and incendiary guitar solo with the heavy drum march by Joey and Mike make this a timeless classic for me.
I love this song since I first heard it back in 72 or so... it's interesting they would choose to sit , I can always remember how the acoustic guitar would buzz on a certain note. Personally, i'd rather see a band perform a mediocre live performance than for them to lip-synch. At any rate a great song. I'm glad it found it's way to youtube.
No offense to the two band members who met their tragic ends, since I don't know who's who in this performance. The lead singer kept reminding me of Adam Sandler, and the drummer looked like he was either half asleep, or he was high on something like LSD. Good song but weird performance.
I've just been transported back 40 years! I loved this album as a kid, but my big bruv took it when he left home to get married. Haven't heard it since about 1975!
playback is one os the stupiedest things ever....I hate musical TV shows for this reason!! look, joey is playing bass, laughing like "this is fucking ridiculous!!!"
This is just another sad story where such a great band then and had such a future in music, that a money hungary so called manager took from them, and destoryrd them. what harmonies and such a great group. This song and Without YOU shows such talent they had. Love them then, Love them now. There music will live forever, even if there lives were taken way to soon.
These guys were robbed. My heart breaks for their families. I wish they realized that the pain would go away eventually and that they were needed by their families.
Great song, great band, great film (Magic Christian)...
Recorded when they were still the Iveys, with Ron Griffiths on bass (not seen here), after their first LP "Maybe Tomorrow"...
Lots of Beatles tie-ins here:
Paul McCartney producing, George Martin arranging and Pete Ham playing a Gibson SG guitar that was used on many Beatles sessions from 1965-1968, a gift from George Harrison !
.. Clear I do not doubt it .. they are the Original Badfinger - Magic Christian Music .. and the real topic, I have lived with this beautiful musical Carry On Till Tomorrow, my years of child _
But eye to You friends and brothers .. do not get angry for anything but there is an Of Lima Very Peruvian group that they touch and sing it better than they.. *We All Together * this way names and touches and sings it very to the style as debit of being .. Regards
@MrTOTTUS "We All Together's" version is more like an attempt at sounding exactly like Badfinger than a cover showing "We All Together's" own style. It is however an excellent imitation, but if you are saying that their redo is better than the original, you're not being realistic. You can't imitate the vocals of Tom Evans or the lead guitar riffs of Pete Ham.
In short, "We All Together" did a "good" job with the song, not a "better" job.
I love to hear that teens of today are getting into this sound seriously and not wavering from pressure from others your age to like only new everything and forget all that came before you were born. It makes me and my friends see that all is not lost. Keep digging in deeper SummerDaddysGal and all you kids cranking up classic rock, you are all on the right track choosing not to miss out on real sounds and talent and "thinking" music that's worth loving no matter how old it is!
Nice lipsynching. The biggest hint was the lack of an acoustic guitar on the stage (which incidentally is what is being heard in the audio track that they are lipsynching to).
P.S. It's not 'badFinger', but 'Badfinger' (the emphasis is on the word 'Bad' - not 'Finger').
There is (or was) a longer version of this on YouTube where as the host of the show is asking them their names, Pete is picking invisible bugs out of the hosts hair!
Okay, so mouthing the words is kind of silly, but Joey should have shown respect to his other band mates and done his job. I wonder if he ever thinks about it with regret.
@Benayrunyon watch the 6 part documentary on Badfinger on Youtube. You will see that Joey is just a colossal greedy (insert name of Badfinger album here)-hole. He is one dodgy individual& did some extremely nasty things to Tom after Pete's death (stopped Tom touring as Badfinger, wanted royalties for songs that Tom&Pete wrote, was suing him) that helped drive Tom to suicide as well. I have no respect for him.Joey just seems high as a kite most of the time, not professional at all; the others were.
@lynnsaoirse Just met Joey last weekend in Chicago. He is still just as high as a kite, but I really think it is natural with him. He is just a great, positive, upbeat guy. His energy is unbelievable for somebody at 64. If he carries any guilt from what he did back in the day, he sure doesn't show it now.
This really takes me back. I bought the Magic Christian album when it first came out. Is it my imagination or do I hear shades of Danny Boy here? Listen close if you care to see if I'm right or wrong. Either way this is still a great song.
It's interesting the similarity to The Beatles. Joey does mug for the camera like Paul. And the close up of Pete is very Lennon-like. I had the opportunity to chauffeur Joey in the mid 80's during a "Badfinger" nightclub performance in New Orleans. Pete was already gone by that time, and Tom had taken his life as well. Very sad.
I`m peruvian, and I really like the music of a peruvian music group : We All Together. They used to play this song too, and they did it so well, but nothing compares to the original version. This is the first time I listen to Badfinger`s tune, and is better.

Paul McCartney had pressed the producers of the movie "The Magic Christian" to hire Badfinger to provide the soundtrack. After they agreed, Paul specifically instructed Pete and TOm to come up with a song in Simon & Garfunkel's style to go along with the film's early scene in which Sir Guy (Peter Sellers) finds Youngman (Ringo Starr) sleeping rough in a park.
Paul wrote "Come And Get It" for the band and also helped them with the writing of "Rock Of All Ages" for the film.
@kongkong514390 Me too! Tommy Evans was incredible - such a beautiful voice. Joey Molland's ego is sickening. Watching this, and listening to Tommy and Pete makes me sad for such a loss as these two.
@kongkong514390 Me too! Tommy Evans was incredible - such a beautiful voice. Watching this, and listening to Tommy and Pete makes me sad for such a loss as these two.
No way to carry on till tomorrow for the core of this group. Too tragic a termination. Too unfair the grave effect that a few business people brought upon Ham & Evans. Badfinger could have had a longer string of success; they were a good group, good people.
Bitter sweet indeed. I liked Badfinger back when I was a babyboomer teen; it wasn't until much later that I learned of the serious injustice done with their business side of life. And the tragic ending of the core of this excellent group. No way to carry on. // Thanks Chevy for this vid.
Not completely. No one will argue that under Apple they were automatically linked and compared to the Beatles, but that also gave them a lot of exposure. Besides, Harrison's production on Staright Up made it a fantastic album (though he didin't produce it entirely). They performed on Bangladesh Concert with lots of music legends, don't you think that's quite productive for the band? All of that thanks to Apple (and of course, having worked with the fab four). It had some setbacks BUT not a curse
Harmonies is right. And this is live? if so, the more amazing. They came out when literally 1000 good bands were putting out music, and in a way got under valued at the time.
I am totally with Mr Ificouldsing! I was looking for this song for so long. I have a special memory....I bought this album and listened to it everyday, over and over and over.....day and night.....T'was a song I was listening to when I got the news my mother had passed. I was only 15...
Thank you so much for uploading this song and sharing it with us. THANK YOU!!!!!
Was this the the B side to No Mater what? I remember this back in 69 but I had the 45 for No Mater what. I was six so I cant remember and the 45 is gone.
hi im thirteen... and wow... im usually into the hard rock kinda stuff..but this is an amazing song....... and when im down in the dumps ill always tell myself to carry on till tomorrow! other girls dont understand why i love this song.. but they dont even give it a chance..... they dont listen to it or anything..... CARRY ON TILL TOMORROW!! AND TILL THE END!!!!LONG LIVE BADFINGER!!!!!!!!<3
Amazing talent that was so under-appreciated and tragically overlooked. This was my first concert - I was only 9. 40 years later I will see Macca in ATL. WOW 4 decades of music (and honestly, a lot of the current stuff falls quite short of the definition)!
anyone knows when was this footage taken in which year? thsi song is really nostalgia for me becuz i always sang it in 1976 but I never knew who was original band singing it! thanks
these were the days when bands did music out of passion and love, not for money and recognition. badfinger is a band never got a penny, but like a starving artist they pursued their musical career
What happened was that Pete Ham hung himself in '75 while Tom Evans also hung himself in '83. Apparently Evans had just got off the phone after a heated argument with Joey Molland about some problems the band was having with song royalties or something like that. The following morning he was found dead by hanging. It was all the stress that eventually took its toll on him. But the main reason why he did it was because he never got over the death of his bandmate Pete Ham.

Search We all Together of Perú, excelent.

They remind me strongly of Simon and Garfunkel in this tune...
erwintommy 2 years ago 11
@erwintommy

No way to carry on till tomorrow for the core of this group. Too tragic a termination. Too unfair the grave effect that a few business people brought upon Ham & Evans. Badfinger could have had a longer string of success; they were a good group, good people.
Querencias 2 years ago 27
Bitter sweet indeed. I liked Badfinger back when I was a babyboomer teen; it wasn't until much later that I learned of the serious injustice done with their business side of life. And the tragic ending of the core of this excellent group. No way to carry on. // Thanks Chevy for this vid.

It's the album track... so this is probably the best lip synching performance ever. Signing with Apple Records cursed them.
DeeDeeTwo 2 years ago 2

Amazing talent that was so under-appreciated and tragically overlooked. This was my first concert - I was only 9. 40 years later I will see Macca in ATL. WOW 4 decades of music (and honestly, a lot of the current stuff falls quite short of the definition)!
