  • Oh man, the first time I ever rode in a Superior (1979 International model with five speed standard transmission), a fist fight broke out three rows ahead of me, and the driver slammed on the brakes to stop the bus and kick both combatants off.

  • I actually wanted to buy a IH Diesel Thomas from the school district I went to HS in the early 90's but unfortunately never got around to it. I don't think I've ever seen any Thomas buses on your videos, were they not popular where you're at?

  • I have a 1979 Superior/International that is now in storage and someone stole my radiator. I'm dying to get it running again, but money is an issue.

  • love the ash tray

  • That bus looks like it took a heavy beating did you get it running?

  • May the vandals who did this receive severe wedgies. look forward to see more bus vids and best wishes chad.

  • OMG , poor bus. I never seen these type of buses since my city got rid of theirs around 1989-90

  • is organist your roommate? great video chad!

  • Are they stick shift?

  • what do you do with the busses?

  • Any updates on the 1980 International Wayne Bus?

  • Cool old buses! Memories!

  • Does them bus have gas engines

  • Yes, all the buses I have are gas.

  • Man that Ford is in beautiful condition! -windows, It takes me back to about 1980, when I fist went to elementary school. I remember clearly a cool beautiful morning and initimidates by that big Ford! It had a white grille, as they all did in Quebec anyways. Note that unlike the school buses in the States, Canadian buses seem to have always had black body stripes...

  • Hope you are enjoying your buses! I'm saving up to buy one myself in a few months.

  • What Would Happen If It Rained

  • how much did you pay for the superior?

  • Both the Superior and the new Wayne were $250 each.

  • @retrochad wow thats cheap !

  • This bus is the same configuration of the bus that was involved in the Carrollton, bus disaster of 1988.

  • I agree. I hate when people damage stuff just because they can.

  • @smithco995 And I hate when people damage stuff because its OLD.

  • some people have NO respect for vintage vehicles:(

  • if you ar going to cut the top off the bus you could turn it in to a party bus,lol

    international engins are the best!

  • it could be a 404 block

  • chad i work 4 a rafting comp in pa we have several older buses many wayne bodies if u need a rare part let me know we use to have alot of those gas jobs they didnt like running in the rain

  • Thanks for keeping the history alive Chris!

  • Y'know, the more I think about it... since these have been vandalized, ya might want to check the fuel tanks and make sure those kids didn't pour sugar in the gas tanks.

I just love that ford Superior, heh.

  • Yeah I know what you mean! I will start them up off fresh fuel in the gas can as I don't know what the fuel in the tanks is like.

  • Wow that Ford looks nice. It's a real shame that someone vandalized those buses like that. That's a lot of money in glass. But I bet you could use the carb off that International and use it on one of your other Internationals.

But I'm curious, why don't you drive the Ford home? Would save on towing for one of the buses. If you follow someone, it won't matter that the gauges don't work. The tires and all looked road worthy. You'd have to tow the IHC due to the no windshield.

  • I just looked at the Ford engine today and it looks like brand new. New Holley performance carb, air cleaner intact, everything bright blue. I think the Ford would likely drive but I really want to start it up off of the gas can in case there is old fuel in the tank plus it needs a new registration/inspection and insurance so I think it would be best to have it towed. The tow truck driver will be picking it up tomorrow morning and then I'll get the Wayne second.

  • Also I looked today at the engine of the IHC after removing all of the broken glass out of the windshield area. It is a 4-barrel Holley carb plus it appears to have electronic ignition. Wonder if it is a 392 as all of my other buses which I think are 345's all have 2-barrel carbs.

  • I agree with you retrochad, idiots think they could break vintage stuff like people don't need them anymore.

  • There is something about that Ford grille that really reminds me of the bottom grille on the Sears Coldspot refrigerator my Grandmother had. That fridge would have been made about 50 years ago. She sold it in about 1991 and purchased the Kenmore we have now.

I think the Wayne would be great for a motor home conversion. Most of the windows could be covered up.

  • That bus junk yard on 365 at the Hellen Ga. turn off is full of superiors and they have all their glass and tail lights . many have the double stop signs . many internationals some fords and a few special needs buses in good shape . They range in age from 1970 flat front to the 1990"s. send me your email info..

  • i like the ford! its a really cool old bus! id like to see that one all fixed up!

  • That would make a cool party bus/boom car! four twelve inch woofers 6.1 surround sound custom paint job, the works!

  • That ford probably has a 370 2V.

  • It might be....not sure when the 370 was developed though, I'm thinking maybe later 70's. I know the ones with the more modern hood design were usually 370's or 429's.

  • 370s debuted in 1978. towards the end of the year i think right before the facelift of ford F and B series.

  • The Ford will be a sure-fire save, but rather than just removing the top of the International, why not turn it into a really huge pick-up truck?

  • Hey you see that one episode of the Red Green show where Red does something like that to a schoolbus on handyman corner?

  • I did, actually. He made it into a "Cigarette" car, by flattening the roof and moving everything to the back. I think that's the episode you're thinking of.

  • The Red Green show is awesome! Just recently our local public television station started carrying it. I used to watch it every weekend when I was in college.

  • Before you have them towed, be sure to unbolt the drive shaft from the rear end, to keep from tearing up the clutch. The clutch will be seriously damaged if you tow them any long distance without unbolting the drive shaft from the rear-end. Just wrap tape around the end caps on the U-joint so you won't loose the caps, and bearings, then tie the drive shaft up secure, or remove it, and put it in the bus.

  • Looks like some fun projects coming up ... how are the other busses? I love hearing the other busses and their whiney transmissions in the field!

I dont know about the windshield glass but the side window glass can probably be replaced cheap with some large sheets of plexiglass and a box cutter. I remember replacing a few truck windows that way ... cutting out windows from a giant sheet of plexiglass.

  • The '74 GMC/Ward and '78 IHC/Carpenter are still running well...Maybe this weekend I can get the '71 Wayne/International running by borrowing the carb off the '78. I am going to pay for the new ones tomorrow but may not be able to get them towed till next week.

  • It breaks my hart when I see broken stuff too. Anything can be nice if you take care of it, and the kids now days, they think it's funny. I don't know what to think about some of them.

  • Poor old busses! I hope you can get em fixed up. It'll probably cost quite a bit to get them decent.

  • Great video look forward to the restoration video

    Richard UK

  • I grew up with Ford and GMC buses. Thomas and Ward bodies. I used to be jealous of my friend because the bus he rode on was a Ward and mine was a Thomas LOL.

  • When I was in elementary school I remember all of the buses were Superior or Carpenter Internationals with Allison automatics and gas engines...they bought a lot of Carpenter/IH 9.0 diesels w/standard transmissions in 1983 and then any of the new ones after that till I graduated were Thomas/IH.

The Superiors were my favorites, I liked the folding doors and they all had AM/FM radios even back in 1983. Some of them had a fiber optic light monitor system in the rear visible in the mirror.

  • Sorry about that It seems like every video I post on gets the same comment 3 times

  • very cool busses how many do you own?

  • Thanks! Now I have 7 busses.

  • wow nice hobby thanks for sharing

  • That superior looks like its in pretty good shape.

  • It really does...it looks like it was re-painted not too long ago.

  • I think it would be a really nice one to preserve.

  • chad that's awsome! i'll bet the ford has a 361 big block.

  • that IHC wayne reminds me of my child hood! i grew up in old IHC waynes with 345s and 9.0L diesels!

  • awesome find chad.

  • nice vid chad

  • cool rigs.

if the ford is a gas, i would say it either has a 360 or a 390. i know that the F600 model trucks of that style had a 330 or a 360, but i am not totally sure about the B700. It is probably a 390, but i am not 100% sure

  • I think you are right...as I remember the diesel version at this time would have been a B7000. I was able to see the flywheel housing and the alternator up through the fenders so I think the engine is intact.

  • my gramp had a diesel L7000 truck new in 1972, it had that same style from clip. the engine was a v8 cat turbo, way to much engine for a 6 wheel dumper truck.

he also had a early Ford Louisville 9000 with a 429 gas. that engine would make a very big difference in the way that bus acts if it was repowered from a 360 or 390

  • man I want a 1980s international diesel bus with a thomas frame :P damn teenagers vandalizing things, I hate that too

  • I would take that International and cut the top, but restore the Ford. I'd imagine it would come out pretty nice once it's done.

  • I lust love these videos.

  • We have a large bus junk yard in Cornellia Ga. along 365 . And none of those buses are completely intack . this man has several hundred buses

  • There is a truck junk yard which has a pretty good amount of buses here but mostly they are just the bodies with the engines removed...still I have been able to find some key parts I have needed like taillight lenses, doors and door handles, International and Wayne logos, etc.

  • Wow what a project! You certainly do not shy away from a challenge, you even look for them and buy them. I would have never thought of collecting buses. I thing that is great!

  • Thanks! These will be kind of a challenge but they said one of them was still on the road a year ago so they should be able to get running again.
