I own an iPhone 3GS, & I've used the iPhone 4, both versions of the iPad (a.k.a. iTampon) & I honestly CANNOT see the point. It's not a laptop replacement - it's just another bit of electronic crap that will deplete the already scarce resources used to manufacture the touch screen (google it - it's already a problem), & in 12 months all the stupid fanboi's will throw it into landfill for the next piece of iCrap!
tbh theres no point having either. for one the ipad is a waste of money which you can buy a decent laptop for which does more. also the iphone sucks as you have to pay for pretty much everything and doesn't give you the freedom to do what you want like you can on android. personally i would rather have a laptop and my htc hd2. ipad is just for idiots who want to look flashy. also i love playing ps1 games on my android for free whilst listening to music which i can get for free. :)

why have both? well you have an iphone with a dataplan, if you jailbreak it you can share the internet with your ipad and have a better internet browser.
iPhone- Use it as an iPod and don't worry about buying the 32GB version. Apps aren't really necessary. Maybe some "on the go" apps, such as Facebook is good, use that too.
iPad- use it in bed and USE IT FOR GOOD. Use it for media playing, such as; Movies, Apps, and of course music (optional). Web-browsing. This you may need a 32GB or 64GB model if you need to. Play games and such. 3G? Not necessary. One less bill to pay from At&t or Verizon.
i also love my "line 2" app on my ipad & ipod touch as well.

tbh, i'd buy and iPod Touch and an iPad (iPhone's $1200 here) just for basically what you said. i don't see anything wrong with that. so many people say "it's just an iPod Touch you can't carry around in your pocket" well wtf? i'm alright with that. iPad for home or travel use, phone + iPod (tethered wifi) for 'in town use' or whatever. it's not as functional as a computer but way more convenient. i'd prefer iOS on a tablet anyday compared to new Windows 7 tablets.
There are a few weak reasons to owning both an iphone and ipad, but they're justifiable I suppose. In the end you just have to admit that you just wanted it. I think one stronger reason iPad could be useful is that it is useful if you have children. It's good portable entertainment, there are straps you can use to make a make-shift in seat video player. There are also a few "learning" games for smaller children, and children pick up how the iPad works easily. Still, it's only a gadget.

Convenience for one. How much more can you do with an iPad that you can't do on an iPhone or iPod Touch other than the bigger screen? The price is not justified for a lot of people.

I think a bigger screen doesn't offer much more than entertainment value (movies, games, etc.) I think they're both great products. I can see using an iPad in place of a laptop if you're looking for something more simple, lightweight, and just as mobile as a laptop. However, hauling around an iPhone, iPad, and a laptop takes away from the whole 'mobility thing.' If you have a laptop, chances are your screen is bigger than the iPad's while being just as mobile and far more powerful.

netbooks kill ipads in price, flash, run multiple apps(until 4.2), downloading files out of the box and at half the price and you can install os x on most of them with some time and effort.

For me, the iPhone has nothing to do with not getting an iPad. My Macbook Pro (or any laptop) is the reason I don't get an iPad. I never understood why someone with with a laptop (especially one which can tether a 3G connection), would want an iPad.

I've got an iPhone, people say get an iPad and you won't ever need to use your MacBook ever again, but I will! i borght an i pad and i havent so far had any regrets it is alot better to show photos to friends and yes it is essently a big ipod touch wich is great as te ipod touch is a brillent product. iphone 4 is not that good. does what a phone does but its touchscreen. ipad, too big cant take anywhere but my room so i just read and play games when im bored. that's it. if i went back, i would still get the ipad but not iphone. iphone is great but its NOT worth $800. Get an HTC if you want a touchscreen phone/ blackberry for keyboards i have ALCATEL ot800 best phone i ever had, only $105 on ebay.

it's amazing that people still buy these despite the very well documented flaws of the recent Iphone, like the faulty proximity sensor and aerial, as well as the technological hardware shortcomings of the Ipad. A laptop has more power and is generally better than the Ipad, and there are phones other than the dodgy Iphone V4

I think a bigger screen doesn't offer much more than entertainment value (movies, games, etc.) I think they're both great products. I can see using an iPad in place of a laptop if you're looking for something more simple, lightweight, and just as mobile as a laptop. However, hauling around an iPhone, iPad, and a laptop takes away from the whole 'mobility thing.' If you have a laptop, chances are your screen is bigger than the iPad's while being just as mobile and far more powerful.

netbooks kill ipads in price, flash, run multiple apps(until 4.2), downloading files out of the box and at half the price and you can install os x on most of them with some time and effort.

For me, the iPhone has nothing to do with not getting an iPad. My Macbook Pro (or any laptop) is the reason I don't get an iPad. I never understood why someone with with a laptop (especially one which can tether a 3G connection), would want an iPad.

I'm currently in a program to get my Bachelor's of science in Computer Technology which deals mostly with hardware and software design for computers. It's an engineering field and honestly Apple has NO reason to be charging the obscene amount of money that they do. "BUY OUR RAM, IT'S FULLY BUFFERED!" Yeah, it also runs at 667 MHz... Please..look elsewhere.

Does that change the fact that their OS and hardware is the best in the business. No. Does that change the fact that specs on OSX don't equal specs on Windows? No. As far as their RAM is concerned, I prefer crucial. Either way, there is a reason Consumer Reports continues to put Macs at the top of their list. I'm sure you'll tell me Apple is paying them off.

I still can't see where the bigger iPhone that doesn't make calls would fit on my day-to-day work. Too big to be portable (can't fit it anywhere); too small to actually use it for work.
For meetings, you will usually take your laptop; that's what they are for.
For phonecalls, you use whatever phone you have, be it an iPhone or whatever.

to all complainers if you have one yet 75% of you cant afford it so they complain other 25% is split between people who obviously dont have enough time to need an ipad so they dont see use for it but for those who use internet and apps in order to make a living, or need some type of entertainment that can do it all and be accessible the ipad is what we need, dont got to carry a heavy laptop with a thick charging cord. i used to cary a back pack & laptop case now all of my stuff fits in one bag

I've got an iPhone, people say get an iPad and you won't ever need to use your MacBook ever again, but I will! It's not capable of doing tasks that a MacBook is, it can do word processing, keynote, numbers etc - don't expect it to do Flash, or something like that. Seems like it's a good product but I wouldn't get along with it completely.

i borght an i pad and i havent so far had any regrets it is alot better to show photos to friends and yes it is essently a big ipod touch wich is great as te ipod touch is a brillent product. You dont really now how goos they are untill you have used them but on the down side it is a bit expensive and makes me feel i dont always wont to take it out

iphone 4 is not that good. does what a phone does but its touchscreen. ipad, too big cant take anywhere but my room so i just read and play games when im bored. that's it. if i went back, i would still get the ipad but not iphone. iphone is great but its NOT worth $800. Get an HTC if you want a touchscreen phone/ blackberry for keyboards i have ALCATEL ot800 best phone i ever had, only $105 on ebay.

Chris you said that there were some "universal binaries" that works on both the iPhone and iPad. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the term "universal binary" mean that a program will work on any PowerPC or x86 Mac computer?

Its like buying a new car. 2 years from now u will have spent $2,400 on an iPhone, that money will be gone, and them u will want a new iPhone. U can never get that $2,400 back.
