Mike Nesmith comes across to me as someone who takes himself too seriously and no real sense of humor as well as self oriented. Makes me wonder why they ever hired him to be apart of the original series to begin with and who thought he would be a funny guy in "The Monkees" series. To bad, they would have been fine as trio or getting one else. Even David Jones has been known to comment that he has always been "aloof" of it all.
The Monkees were formed to make a TV show. They did. After the show was over/cancelled, staying the Monkees was optional...to wit Mike opted out. The other three enjoyed being the Monkees, but Mike no longer did. Now, to think it over, I would rather NOT have Mike in the Monkees - if his heart and soul was no longer gonna be in it. Also, he did not need the money after his his mom passed - she invented White Out...what an empire Mike inherited.
@ajklein57 Mike NEVER wants to appear with them; guess he was to busy creating MTV, and several children's specials over the years. He didn't have to make a living by "Living in the past".
Never expected or thought Davy would be the first to go. It's really sad to know someone who gave us Baby-Boomers so much to laugh at....& I really enjoyed the music too, could be gone. Rest in Peace Davy. My sincere condolences to the entire Family. I'll miss you kid.
Wow. The Monkees was 45 years ago and they were grown men then. They are literally old enough to be the FATHERS of people who are between like 45-50 years old. That's... messed up. lol I've been a fan since their show ran in reruns in the 1980s when I was a kid. I was going to marry Davy. ;-)
@TheMonkeesRock No, YOU da bitch, becuz I loves me some Monkees!~ I just wanna know, does he still play the drums?..Coz I don't want him frontin' ..I was 12 when they hit big, so I believed everything. 'Last Train to Clarksville', 'I'm a Believer', 'Steppin' Stone'..'Randy Scouse Git'..'Goin' Down'...all the best songs, sung by Mickey..oy yeah 'For Pete's Sake', 'Mary Mary', and 'Monkees Theme' as well. Now go make me a sandwich, bitch! We singin' in the same choir.
@DavidCKendall LOL i Love them too. But you talking bout my Micky? And you dont even spell his name right., And yes, he still plays drums, retard. Your like 50 talking to a 13 year old girl lol bitch
@EdgarKritik Yes, I read that somewhere, just didn't realize how bad it was. :( Also, the article didn't mention what type of cancer it was. Maybe they didn't know at the time.
@vampiratefairiegrl - He has been recovering from a very rare form of mouth cancer for a while. He was AMAZING on stage. Looked like he was having the time of his life. :)
@Gidget521 Awww, glad to hear he's kicking cancer in he ass, it's a bitch of a disease. Also glad the concert was amazing for all! Wanted to go, but unfortunately was unable to :( Still <3 the boys though. MONKEES 4EVER!!!!! :)
@TheKenfig Hi there- Actually, it was Peter that had the cancer battle. Micky is doing just fine. Got to chat with him for a bit not too long ago when I went to see Mike Nesmith perform with another band. They're all such good guys
@Gidget521 Oh, that's a shame, I hope Peter stays well. I remember the Monkees tv show first time around in the U.K. in 1967 and 68 (on our black & white tv set) when I was just 4 and 5 years old, though it was repeated lots during the 70s and 80s. Also my older brother buying Monkees singles in '67 like 'I'm a believer', 'A little bit me' and 'Alternate Title', all of which I love. Great old times
love tis davy still got it !

I like the part where Sherrie tries to hug Peter in the car, and he looks terrified and pushes her away. Ah! I could certainly hug him too.
